I came across your channel by accident. I was captivated. It brought back many memories. The only other thing that has had that kind of impact on me was chatting with Temple Grandin. Some of the memories were good, but I can't remember those. The bad ones are of getting up at dawn on a winter morning and putting out hay for cattle who promptly stomp it into the snow. That was a while ago. Now I'm selling the little ranch and someone is going to build homes on it. I will tell you that when I got up from my computer I habitually checked the bottoms of my shoes. Old habits die hard, it seems. Thanks for your channel.

Mr. Mike, I got to look over that same setup two years ago in Great Falls and was extremely impressed with the thought that went into the design. The greatest feature I saw that a lot of people won't notice being a huge asset it the anti-laydown bar in the floor. We always castrated in headcatchers and that was the biggest problem was calves trying to lay down. The neck cradle feature was sweet too. A good headcatcher is important equipment for a 1 or two person operation. I think you will enjoy that fine piece of machinery Mr. Mike.

Wow! What a fantastic opportunity for the ranch to try that out, and for the company for the exposure. KZbin has really helped the ranch in funding, cool gifts, and now big equipment.

You'll like it, we had one of the 86 series for 2 years. Works great for cows but we also handle 300-500 bulls each year, needed heavier with hydraulics to handle the pace and strength of the bulls.
@OurWyomingLife5 жыл бұрын
I was wondering about putting bulls through it. Not even sure they will fit :). Thanks Dan -Mike
@GDWickersham5 жыл бұрын
The bulls fit, up to around 2200, the chute holds them. It was just the volume, manual wears you out after about 25 or 30.

We've got a Q-Catch as well. Not only makes things easier but MUCH safer for cow and cowboy. Working cattle is the most dangerous thing we do here. Always thought these were too pricey. After more close calls than I can count I had an epiphany. If I get hurt working with my old chute what's that gonna cost me? If my wife or kids get hurt I'd never forgive myself for skimping on such important equipment. So here we are. Much safer. BTW, these aren't disposable chutes. They're built like old tractors. At some point I'll sandblast and repaint. I'm 43 yrs old and pretty convinced this is the last chute this farm will ever need.

Ms. Grandin pointed out the calmer handling of livestock in their processing. Many cattlemen and women have stressed this over the years. Everything from roundups, moving cattle, separating etc. All makes good pointers and makes for easier handling.

I love your video. I have a 8500 cattle chute Arrowquip I love it. My dad got injured 4 years ago. We had a Powder River 2000 XL cattle chute it was one mouth old and broke the hed gate and I sent it back to my dealer and a mouth went by I got it back and it broke agin on the side gate and it went back to the dealer two mouths went by I got it and I had to go get hay for neighbor I got back and find out about my dad injured and went and look at the chute hed gate was broke one of hed gate broke off of the Powder River and my dad had worked 14 caves that day and had 36 to go. I was mad at that chute. I look at Arrowguip 7 mouth ago at the 4 state farm show I thot it was lite belt so. I called Arrowguip and got a demo on 8500 cattle chute boy was I haver in press with the demo and I bot it. Now my neighbors have me help work cattle and wish I had a wheel kit for my 8500 chute to make it easy to move. To move it with skid loader and a flat bed trailer We put about 500 hed of cattle. My Arrowguip is going on 4 years old if I lost my Arrowguip 8500 cattle chute I would sell my 52 cows. And looking at a new Q-power 106. It made working cattle fun agin.

A few years ago I had a cow slip in my chute go down and only way out was cutting torch. I started looking for a new chute that sides could open (without torch). After looking at price tags on 6 or 7 brands I took the welder to the old one! I thought anything built heavy enough and has the goodies was sky high price. Last year I saw an arrowquip. I thought at the price it'll be junk but looks very well built. My old one still works but now I know what I want when it comes to it.
