I had this thought as I was watching you work the head gate on the old chute. Those old chutes that were often made without zerks will respond well to a grease needle and Tri Flow spray lube. That is particularly necessary if you need to use the self catch head safely and with less noise. That is also a good Idea for your calving head gate. We often forget about this maintenance until we suddenly need the chute and are working alone. That can put our safety at risk when an animal that would have been caught, escapes. We need to be safe out there. Best of luck with our new setup.

So jealous of the new system... I looked into one last year at western ranch. I also know the feeling of tearing down your hard work for an improvement... Every year I seem to be redoing something on the corrals to help the next year... Or a cow finds a new creative way of getting out and breaking something so improvements are always a must. Can't wait to see the new system in action!

Those old WW chutes we're hard to beat!!! We still use ours, alley and corral set up has been changed/rebuilt probably four times in the last 60 years.. last time we put in a Prefert tub and alley. Rebuilt the old WW chute/scale combo, upgraded the scale with load bars, went digital!! Our set up is in a narrow space between the barn and the property line. We are replacing the line fence, and as we have leased the neighbors for the last 35+ years, I plan to add a few holding pens on their side of the line... Would love to have a hydraulic chute, but at 80 momma's, we're still good with the old WW.... Got a buddy in Idaho, he helps out a dozen or so ranches preg checking, he loves the hydraulic chutes, said 600+ in a day is easy... But with a manual chute, he said 250 and it's too long of a day. Thanks for the video!!! Love the new setup!! But it needs a scale😎
