Mine's getting delivered tomorrow! I'm excited! I live near Kingsley Field and have been watching these F-15's for a long time... in fact they were just doing night exercises last week... I haven't been in RC that long and just discovered this bird, and the Xfly Twin 40mm F-15. Decided to go with this Arrows as its a bit more fully featured at a reasonably good price. I grew up watching F-15's and as far as I'm concerned they define what a fighter jet should look like!

This plane also has a habit of eating batteries, so with a 15 yo's budget, make sure you find a HIGH QUALITY BATTERY, and even the SMART ones we're using are getting chewed up. Megan and I were thinking about having a Q&A, but we've been SLLLLLLAMMMMED...taxes, family SUV's engine just blew up three weeks ago (oil pump failed at 103K miles - GRRRRREAT!), production starting to really pick back up with spring, getting PPG ready, tornadoes hitting our friends places...etc....and spring! We just want to give this channel the attention it deserves, but my 55-65 hour/week job is, to be frank, getting in the way. We're close, but no cigar for another year to two years depending on our growth...and even then, it'll be one of the scariest things I've ever done, quitting a perfectly good CAREER of what will have been 18 to 19 years! Anyway, don't mean to give you the "poor me" - our life is amazing, but it's just soo much at times ;) Good problems to have, and we wouldn't have these amazing opportunities if it weren't' for our loyal to a fault audience!!!

I fly it with HRB 4000 50C packs and still have my timer set to 3:30 and I land on time. So far it working. Did have to push the pack back. I had room to do that as I mounted the RX in front of the battery bay and ran the wires under the tray with 10” servo leads. I was able to push that rats nest of wires way back so they are not in the way. Was also thinking of replacing the outrunner motors to inrunners as they are more efficient. Hi Brian, another great video as always and thanks for all the info. This is one of the first videos of yours I have seen where you discuss packs puffing. It does make sense to me with the twin 64mm EDFs. I mainly use the Spektrum smart packs based largely on your recommendations and I am very happy with them. I do not have the F-15 but I do have an E Flite A-10 twin 64 mm that is my "goal" jet that I am working my way to over the next few months. Just getting some more stick time on my Warbirds and smaller EDFs first. Have you seen the packs puffing on that jet as well? Right now I have the 3200 and 4000 6s Spektrum smart batteries. Both are 30c I think. Should I look at getting some higher c rating batteries before I fly the A-10? Thanks again for all the hard work and props to the camera crew for her stellar skills.
@BrianPhillipsRC2 жыл бұрын
I would encourage you to consider a 50-100C pack for Twin EDF's REGARDLESS of what the MFG recommend. This is only to improve your chances, you CAN still puff even a high quality pack, and I HAVE ;( The key is to be careful how long you give full throttle, but I can tell you from experience, you will not want to hold back on a plane like this ;) You can also puff a pack by charging it too fast, or from leaving them charged longer than necessary or never discharging them. Note that your 30C packs might be just fine, but knowing how much these lipos cost now-a-days, I would be doing you a huge disservice if I ignored this issue. Good luck!
@bassops13732 жыл бұрын
Does battery pack expansion come from use, or changing. I don’t fly ducted fan. I fly Parkzone T-28, P-47D, and a F4U-1A. The 47 and F4U run run retracts and flaps. I use Lectron Pro 35C 11.1v 2700mAh and a 50C 11.1v 2200mAh packs. I use either Eflite Power 10, and 25 depending on the bird, and Eflite 60 Amp esc in all my birds. My charger is a Tenergy TB6AC Dual Power Balance Charger. I don’t fly more than 5 minutes on each battery. Still my packs have expanded. Any insight would be great! I enjoy your channel. Keep up the good work!
@BrianPhillipsRC2 жыл бұрын
FAST discharge (especially with EDF's) is what usually causes the packs to puff. Also, charging, then leaving packs charged for a long time (I used to do this all the time - lipo killer technique #1). You can also puff a pack by charging too Fast. This one is easy to avoid. All the planes you listed are prop planes, thus they'll be unlikely to puff your packs unless you fly around at 100% throttle all the time. This is a kind of a huge problem for many new pilots, since many think they won't stall if they fly FAST all the time, which is true to a degree, but flying slow is a skill they should work on, and give your battery a break after a long punch of throttle...like at takeoff, and initial climb out. Thanks for being here with us Bass Ops!

Does this have shock absorbing landing gear? The website doesn’t quite specify. BTW my grandparents used to live pretty close to the Des Moines airport, and when I would visit as a kid I used to love watching the F16’s take off, and hearing the insane roar. I would always snag the window seat on our flight into DSM so I could see the national guard ramp, and I’m old enough to remember the A7 Corsair 2’s sitting on the ramp too. Thanks for reminding me of a great memory 😊

Serious question/concern. I'm an old flyer, new to this technology. This is PNP and you used an AR631. My question is how would a beginner know how to add an AS3X receiver to a plane. Especially if said plane is not in any file that can " simply" be downloaded? Because I don't see simple. I see a pain in the @#$ I love the Arrows products but adding a receiver scares me. Thanks in advance for any help.
@AerospaceMatt2 жыл бұрын
All the necessary information should be in the Unbox, Build, Radio Setup video for this jet. Just look on this channel’s “videos” page and scroll down until you see the previous video for this jet. Also, you don’t necessarily need to add an AS3X/SAFE equipped Receiver inside, although that makes it fly better. A non stability spektrum AR620 would work, and it’s much simpler to set up
@BrianPhillipsRC2 жыл бұрын
Kurt - yes, when you're new, it's a TON to keep straight. As for AS3X vs SAFE vs Vector vs Reflex vs LemonRx DSMP vs Stabilization vs Auto-Leveling... It all comes with some exposure. If you want the short answer, there isn't one. There's no such thing as a "simple" download - as you said...that too is a PIA...but what we do here is to try to get you as an existing pilot, up to speed with the new technology. For this, as Matt suggested, you would want to watch our unbox, build, radio setup, and maiden flight videos (the first video for a given aircraft) where we go over much of this step by step. As for HOW to know that you want to add AS3X to a plane...if you want to fly a plane with stabilization (AS3X is artificial stabilization three axis - AKA a stabilizer) Now-a-days, AS3X is going to get your SAFE, if you wish, as well. SAFE is Sensor Aided Flight Envelope - aka auto leveling and limited bank angles, with the addition of stabilization. If you want it, you pretty much want it on everything. You can phase out use of SAFE as you develop skills, but you probably don't need it at all if you're a returning pilot. AS3X, on the other hand, helps pilots fly in more adverse conditions that might otherwise make flying more of a chore, or too risky for their skills...this technology is not super new, but it's been refined very well in this platform. It basically counters environmental impact on the plane...like wind or thermals, and oppose the impact, while still allowing you to be in control of the aircraft. I also like the way the planes look while flying with a properly tuned stabilizer. You would know if you want to equip this feature in a plane when you know if you like the way the plane flies with AS3X on or not. Some veteran pilots HATE the way a stabilized plane "feels" and I don't blame them. They've got a different set of skills than those we newer pilots have. When you're ready to dive into this in more detail, check out the playlists on my channel, and you can see the Unbox, Build, Radio Setup, and Maiden Flights for a given plane that might interest you. We help you work through the process of setting them up, but to be 100% honest, if you watch 3 videos all the way through and follow along, you'll probably be good to go.
@tlg1012 жыл бұрын
I'm fairly new as well. Currently like Brian states developing skills around not having Safe and as3x someday. With this plane my 1st big jet I used the AR637T reciever and programmed a 3 position switch 1 normal mode (no as3x or safe) 2 (as3x only) and 3 (full safe). Safe helps the landings. I agree. I need some SMC packs...they're supposed to be GREAT for twins and other higher performance EDF's, but occasionally the ESC's are going to freak out from the HV setup, from what I've been warned. Have you had this issue?
@afbenaza10 ай бұрын
@@BrianPhillipsRC i actually dont like flying the J-11 because of the havok it wreaks on the battery. I've tried several SMC batteries ranging from 4400 to 6200. Some of them puffed after just some normal sport flying on a hot day. After that i didnt want to risk any more batteries. So if ever i do fly it again, i really have to remind myself to take it easy. The weight and drag of the airframe is just too much for 2x70mm running 12blades. The power is there. But the battery gets blasted. SMC has its limits as well. I havent had issues with ESCs from Freewing. ESCs from Horizon sometimes have issues. But its usually on the 4S ESCs. I dont remember having throttle issues on 6S ESCs

You can put a 4000mah smart pack in the aircraft and It will fit perfectly.

I have an 1100mm P-51 Mustang by FMS, Durafly, Dynam, Force RC, Blitz...and several forgotten others. The Arrows has the nicest scale details . the skin is smoothest and on 4s has the best flight characteristics and speed like a rocket. are the Arrows jets better looking up close than the Eflite?
@BrianPhillipsRC2 жыл бұрын
I don't think they are better, but I feel that they're about the same. Eflite sometimes comes with a slightly better finish, but sometimes FMS has better finish, kinda depends on what plane you're talking about. The bigger detail I'm concerned with is the electronics, and if the technology works well...like Eflite's premium AS3X equipped receivers, vs the Arrows VERY GOOD, but slightly inferior system, in my opinion. Same is true for the FMS offerings, in terms of electronics. I'd say a servo is generally a servo, if they're the same specs, but if you start talking about motors, esc's, and receivers ESPECIALLY stabilized receivers, that's where the value starts to stack.

I’m debating between this and the *competitive brand* 90mm version. Do you think 2 64mm EDFs are better than a single 90mm?
@BrianPhillipsRC2 жыл бұрын
I don't know for sure. 90mm is a great size edf, but who knows? I wish I could be of more assistance.

It will eat the battery that’s the only down side to this plane. I’m a Smart battery user for 3S and 4S. I even have Smart 6S 3200’s. Any packs over that I use HRB packs I can get 2 for the price of one Smart Battery. And they work great I push them and they don’t puff.
@BrianPhillipsRC2 жыл бұрын
Interesting! I've only had issues with my 4000mAh packs...I don't know why, but I think it's because that's the size in some of the most demanding planes we fly...like the F-18 80mm, or any twin EDF that's also a battery eater

35C seems to small. I have a 10 year old su34 with twin 64mm i use those cheap HRB 4s 3300 on it, i get 4 minutes & plane doesnt feel heavy. So wanting another jet, looking at this f15 or mig29 twin 64mm. But looking for climbing power.. I have 2 mig29 twin 80mm, love the jet.

Hey Brian you are an Awesome RC pilot but your runway/sidewalk is a little short !!!
@BrianPhillipsRC2 жыл бұрын
I agree it could use a bit more length, and girth - but who wouldn't - LOL ;) But seriously, we have something like 225 feet from the edge to the edge (but the one end is a bend at that point, so it's like 210 to 235 for some such thing edge to edge)...I'd like to extend the runway out to almost the tree line (there a hill there, so to the edge), then also make a heli landing pad at the end toward the "Bowl"...which would be a REAL full scale heli pad. These upgrades are a wayze down the road, since we have two large capitol projects in the works... 1) Pond 2) Building 3) Dirt work for full scale runway out back- in no particular order or might come all together.

Puffing because you ran it too low while too much throttle. Simple. Less throttle at end, drop to 3 min. Its not the plane, its the user. 3.7v and high current is going to kill packs.
@BrianPhillipsRC2 жыл бұрын
I have this problem on almost every twin EDF. I'd like to see TWIN BATTERY operation, as it would help a LOT toward puffing expensive packs. Still, amazing plane!!!!!
@glenhar12252 жыл бұрын
@@BrianPhillipsRC Again, its a design parameter, not a problem. You are exceeding design parameters, by choice. Cut your timer down and you wont be abusing your packs. This is batt care 101. I dont feel that your approach of blaming twin edfs is logical, truthful, nor helpful to others. A 3 min jet is not a 4 min jet. Its just that simple. I have jets that pull more current on same pack density yet have never puffed a pack. I do not run to under 3.8/cell, and near 3.8, take it easy on the throttle. Hundreds of cycles.
