We drove to Queenstown from Wanaka thru the Crown Range which is the highest main road in New Zealand. Of course, we need to make a stop and admire the views.
On our way to Queenstown, we visited the small, quaint lovely Arrowtown. It is famous for being a gold mining town so it’s common to see tourists with their rented gold pans along the Arrow river. We stroll and play along the river which was also used as a ‘Lord of the Rings’ filming location.
We don’t have much time to spare so we started driving toward Glenorchy. It’s absolutely stunning and has been voted as one of the most beautiful drives in the world, with incredible views of the lake and mountains. Catch the lake on a tranquil day and it looks like a mirror with crystal clear reflections. Its stunning landscapes were also used as key filming locations for The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit trilogy.
One of the most popular photography spots is the iconic red hut by the lake with the ‘Glenorchy’ sign and we have to take our own snaps!
