The problem with chronic Gerd is you’ll need to take a PPI daily that’s not recommended by the pharmaceutical. If not treated the esophageal damage can become cancer because the cells will mutate because they can’t heal . I’ll stay on the PPI

I keep trying to find something else that works. Ginger, Apple cider vinegar, etc. I have problems swallowing. The closest I have come to omeprazole is taking antacids 4 times a day.

Dr the ENT prescribed me that bc I feel like there was something in my throat and Im always trying to clear it. That was pretty much the only symptom. He said to take Omaprazole 40 mg for a mnth, its been like 10 days and my throt has improved although not completely but now Im getting bad headaches that last all evening until I go to sleep. Will the effect be good if I stop at two weeks and not 4?

I was prescribed Omeprozole because I suddenly woke with heavy thudding beats in my upper stomache. I thought it was my heart beating, but a test by the Ambulance crew of my Pace Maker, showed my heart was beating Normally. So what was actually beating so hard ? A dose of ant-Acid fluid , ' 'Peptac'' worked immediately, although I still had the occasional thumping come back, but is fading away, and I'm eating less, and never after 6,00pm. I always recommend taking it as directed unless your doctor has told you otherwise. In the meantime, see how many lifestyle factors you can change to reduce night time symptoms such as: head bed elevation, avoiding meals 2-3 H before bedtime, reduce coffee, chocolate, spices, acidic foods, and fatty foods. I hope this helps!

0 seconds ago I was just prescribed this medicine by a gastroenterologist. She wants me to take 20 mgs. for the rest of my life due to finding my biopsy indicated Barratt's Esophagus (non-dysplasia). I don't have any serious 'gerd' problems but came up positive for an at home color-guard test and have another colonoscopy/endoscopy scheduled for 5/21/24. I don't think I want to take Omeprazole for the rest of my life. What are the risks if I don't take it?
