Road tax was abolished several decades ago. And the tax you drivers pay doesn't fund roads. And insurance? Come on.. This day and age we're trying to get people out of their cars and onto their bikes, not the other way round. @@Evilroco Have you not read a single word I've written *Bicycles are not cars.* A broken ankle and two months off of work sucks, though I think it's better than being maimed by a two-tonne death machine travelling at 50km/h. This is why cars are required to have insurance and much stricter rules; they endanger people SIGNIFICANTLY more than other forms of travel. Imagine the damage that'd be caused if that cyclist was in a car instead. You can't, as you wouldn't be alive to tell the story.

The worst part about cyclists in the US, is that they can legally take a full lane, and when they are slow. So you pass over a double yellow because all US back roads are double yellow for some stupid reason, and then they flip the bird, and ride erratically.

The flashing lights should be banned. Cars don't have them motorcycles don't have them. Why should you guys? Have you ever seen one of those coming towards you on a 2 lane road that's not in the city? Your eyes don't have time to adjust and you are literally blind until you pass them.
@bigblokeonabike6 жыл бұрын
+just to say this cars have bigger brighter more powerful lights so don't need flashing lights. The most important thing to prevent blinding other road users is where the light is pointed. Both of mine point down at the road.
@justtosaythis20876 жыл бұрын
bigblokeonabike my lights aren't as bright as the xenon lights or the new LED's on newer cars. So shouldn't I be allowed flashing lights by your rationale? Mopeds aren't as big nor bright as cars they aren't allowed strobing lights. I agree they should be pointed down but if they are headlamps then cyclists should be required to look down at all times. On city streets not a big deal but out side the city they are dangerous and unnecessary.
@bigblokeonabike6 жыл бұрын
+just to say this moped lights would tend to be bigger and more noticeable than bicycle lights - simply because they don't need to be super light and have small rechargeable batteries as cycle lights do. Still, an argument could be made for mopeds to have flashing lights. I would agree that flashing lights on country roads don't make much sense. Flashing is "to be seen". Steady lights are "to see". Because of this I switch to steady lights when navigating narrow dark parts of my route. I have a helmet mounted light during the winter. When around other people I am careful not to shine it in their face or directly at motorists.

I remember once riding down Gower street, and a delivery "cyclist" ran 3 red lights, only stopping at the 4th as the traffic was heavy; I confronted him at this point and told him that his actions affect others and that he is being selfish, and the reaction I got back was extreme rudeness. Pretending to be gangsta, he nearly started a fight with me in the middle of the road. The sheer level of ignorance and rudeness of many never fails to amaze me.. bigblokeonabike on a country lane, slower moving vehicles are expected to allow faster traffic to pass when safely possible. Horses do it, some agricultural vehicles, most road users Except 95% cyclists. It's common courtesy and part of the highway code. When coming round a blind corner, on a 60mph stretch of road, it's only cyclist I tend to find wandering across the centreline into oncoming traffic, then swear at the drivers obeying the rules of the road. Want to talk abut entitled? Take it easy mate. Not here for a row. Can only go on experience. And my experience is that about 75% of all road users do not have a fucking clue, are distracted, or using the road in a dangerous manner due to some weird sense of superiority, and when they fuck up, they blame everyone else. The minority? Are you insane. I counted 15 Road Traffic violations in that video, 5 in the first 30 seconds alone! The last 2 cyclists went through double reds! The number of cyclists passing through reds was more than those that stopped. Saying that only the minority do it is a well worn excuse rarely backed up by evidence. In my experience ALL cyclists will do it at some point, most (probably?) will do it on multiple occasions, and a lesser (but significant) number will always do it. Sorry but 15 Traffic violations in just 4m is almost beyond belief. To put it in context, if this happens everywhere (which it does) then cyclists comitting Road Traffic offences are by far and wide the most significant cause of offences on the road, by a factor of 50 at least. I dont think you understand the scale of the issue youve posted on video

The level of harm caused and potential to be caused is far higher for a 2 tonne hunk of metal travelling at 20mph+ compared to 100kg of mass flying at the same speed, that's why we take motor vehicle violations as far more serious. Also take into account that a motorist has an easier life when it comes to start stopping, they just have to push a pedal whereas a cyclist actually has to put down effort. And as humans being lazy, naturally you're going to get the lazy guys disobeying the rules, I imagine it would be no different if you put all motorists on bikes.

As a cyclist myself- I make an effort to follow the road rules, be sensible and courteous to make good relations and hopefully undo so many bad experiences drivers get. Unfortunately, people who lose their drivers licenses often turn to bikes and ride on the wrong side of the street, run lights as well, ride on sidewalks and sometimes in the middle of the road and add to the aggravation- people lump all cyclists in the same bucket. When sport cyclists do it- it just affirms cyclists are all self entitled. One time at a stop light, as we waited... the light turned green.. and as we started a cyclist decided to run the red light and flipped everyone off forced to brake to avoid hitting him.. He's lucky someone didn't have an "accident" Just bad PR and makes it hard on all the cyclists. Since most of the cyclists are probably also drivers... my bet is they are also the

The thing is the more contact time with motor traffic for a cyclist = greater chance of death or injury. So RLJ can reduce that contact time and reduce possible death or injury. Of course, consideration for pedestrians and other vulnerable road users should be a top priority. If a cyclist runs a red light and they make sure no one is affected adversely what is the issue here? Please concern yourself with the carnage caused daily by motor traffic - the lives ended, the families heartbroken, the tears shed, the pollution produced and not with a few, harmless RLJ cyclists.
@bigblokeonabike7 жыл бұрын
+marco mint are you joking? I seriously can't tell. How many cyclists have been killed whilst waiting at a red light? I would bet basically none. Taking your suggestion further, to reduce contact time why not cycle everywhere as fast as you can with your eyes closed and not stopping for anything? That would mean the smallest possible contact time...
@Fredders887 жыл бұрын
But waiting at a RL means that you are always cycling with traffic. Some RL jumping - all precautions taken when doing it - does give you a head start on the traffic and your overall contact time with traffic is reduced. Your overall journey time is reduced and your time as a very vulnerable road user is reduced. For the UK:"In reported road traffic accidents for the year ending March 2016:there were 1,780 road deaths, unchanged from the year ending March 2015.24,610 people were killed or seriously injured.there were 187,050 casualties of all severities"How many did cyclists kill or injure in this period - I would imagine a tiny amount - concentrate your energies on the killers here and don't fall for the anti-cyclist propaganda BS.

+marco mint leaving a stop line a bit sooner than the rest of the traffic is a very different think than what the cyclists in this video are doing. Saying jumping a red light is safer because you're on the road for less time is the argument of a raving lunatic.
