As an Aston Villa fan, and a Sunday League player...this man is my inspiration, The way he played the game, it flowed, he shown passion and loyalty. Only a handful of players show them qualities anymore. He didn't need a textbook to play, he wrote it. As for the handball for France; it was the dieing seconds. He instinctively did something against the rules to get his country through to the world cup. Anyone would have done it, immensely wrong yes; but we all would have done it. Thierry Henry!

I may be a biased opinion as an Arsenal fan but although he did use his hand against Ireland you cannot deny the player he was. There are a lot of amazing players who aren't completely perfect proffesionals, Cantona being one. But also Maradona, Zidane and it goes on. I was there that night. I saw the smug sneer on his face. He only changed his tune when replays showed he handled the ball on purpose. Before that he whined it was an accident. Then for him to come out and say replay the game AFTER FIFA said it wouldn't be replayed was the most sickening thing of all. He may be a legend to gooners but to real match-going fans he'll be forever remembered as an arrogant cheat, an embarrassment to the French notion of fair play.

What are United's irish roots? Here's a thing. When Newton Heath changed their name to Manchester United, they almost picked Manchester Celtic instead because of the Irish who helped form them, plus the huge Irish support since the club was formed. Like I said, read Celtic United and you'll see what I mean. When the Lancashire and Yorkshire railway was being built, thousands of Irish went over to work there. That's how Newton Heath was formed. That's United's Irish roots.

i saw henry play for the arse 4 times, twice at highbury and twice at Old Trafford, and every time he ran complaining to the ref practically every chance he got, once in particular when he was tackled by Roy Keane, and he waved an imaginery red card in the ref's face trying to get Keano sent off. i'd call that cheating. he was a good player, but outside highbury he was despised for his arrogance (remember that infamous penalty with pires?) anyway he'll always be remembered for that handball.

another thing. the barca fans booed him for a long time after. he even had a confrontation with them, as he did with arsenal fans. great player, but universally disliked, quite rightly. if he's apologised, it would have been ok, and we all would have moved on (we're not english, we don't go on for decades like they do about maradona) but instead he sneeder and tried to blame everyone else, including the ref. as for his statue, it should have been Liam Brady, a much better player and a gentleman.

it wasn't just the handball. it was his arrogance afterwards, sitting on the pitch with the Irish players, and then saying the game should be replayed after FIFA said it wouldnt. even the french fans were embarrassed by him. and look at what the likes of David Ginola said, among others. henry might have been a good player, but he was an arrogant cheat whom even some arsenal fans didnt like. as for Cantona, he only ever kicked when he himself was kicked. he was a real genius, henry was obnoxious.

Another thing, he's not fit to lace Eric Cantona's boots. Now there's a real French legend. And Liam Brady was a far more talented player and sportsman than that cheat could ever be. Why didn;t they build a statue to him? Brady was respected the world over. Indeed Juventus fans voted him one of their top five players ever. And he wasn't arrogant or smug. And he never cheated. He didn't need to.
