I was skeptical of zinchenko coming on, and genuinely he was exposed 1v1 multiple times with sane and coman, but surprisingly we didn’t concede. It was a risk arteta took and he took it, he knew very well zinchenko would end up being isolated but in the ucl you have to take risks. It paid off and kept us in the tie, Bayern also took risks in the first half with neuer having to do a risky pass which put them under more pressure to de ligt, but it also paid off. I said bar the momentary moments of individual madness, I think last night was one of arteta's best tactical performances ever last night. Of course, the result is not what the arsenal wanted, but they really did assert themselves on the game. This was also bayern lowest shot count for the year thus far to. Would love to see arsenal impose themselves more in bigger games like this as they did last night. However, I think if I was was to make a slight tweak, I think we have rice playing a bit too far up that field. He has to be close to jorginho to help overcome his athletic deficiencies, which got exposed time and time again last night

I caveat this point with the benefit of hindsight, but Arteta got it wrong to begin with starting Kiwior and Martinelli instead of Zinchenko and Jesus on that left hand side. Enjoyed this piece BUT Coman was a sliver of an inch away from making it 3-2. A lot of Arsenal fans underestimated Bayern, not recognizing that they're actually going to beat their points total from last season, when they won their league. The story isn't how bad Bayern have been, but how near perfect Leverkusen have been. Next week, Arteta is gonna have to lean on experience. Jesus and Zinchenko must start.
@GoonerOlu8 ай бұрын
I was just explaining this tactically to someone. And it made me appreciate that we have Arteta as our manager. They clearly set out to nullify Odegaard creating in the final third & combining with Saka as well. And Arteta was like "don't worry, I'll make him create from deep", He's tactically sound. Would be interesting to see what curve ball they throw our way in Munich & how Arteta responds. I think we'll set out conservative with a mid block & play on the counter. Also, the first leg must've taught Arteta some lessons about his players, like 1. Jesus is a big game player 2. Trosaard is you best finisher 3. Kiwior is not Arsenal's level 4. We need a ball playing/line breaking CB to compete with Saliba, he gets alot of the ball but needs to improve on his passing & movement of the ball. With the way teams set up against us these days, you need CBs that can create from deep. Gabriel has it in his locker but i don't see him do it often. Write Arsenal off at your own peril
