Timber’s and Calafiori’s dribbling provides us the “magic” we need to progress the ball. In the past, when we couldn’t progress the ball, we look stuck. We would keep passing the ball between our defenders, failing to create chances. Rice has slightly improved his positioning in possession. He is now more clever in dropping in and out of the opponent press. He now has a better understanding of creating/utilising numerical advantage at the back. Seems like something he has learned from Zinchenko. And also, he played a few long switches today. It’s good to see that he is trying to improve on his biggest weaknesses. Nwaneri played really well.
@thierryhenry674Ай бұрын
Last season, Arteta tried to bench Gabriel and play White at CB and Partey at RB. A reason for that is that Arteta wants more “ball playing quality” at the back. In yesterday’s match, Gabriel seems to be more confident driving the ball forward and occupying more advanced positions. So maybe he has worked on his dribbling, close control and touches, so that he can perform to a level that is up to Arteta’s requirement.

What excited me the most about this game was the intricate tight space passing between Timber and Saka. I would love to see Nwaneri start a game to watch that right sided triangle develop. Once Odegaard and Merino can play again both of our flanks are going to be absolutely lethal.

I would say that 2nd Leicester goal was Calafiori being slightly out of position, a little too close to gabriel and not covering his man enough. He may still feel like a CB in certain situations. Its okay though, once again, he really helped that left side tick. Great player
@Alexandre1453Ай бұрын
Spot on. He is too aggressive to be a CB but when he defends he still behaves like one. He needs time to develop into a full LB able to both attack and defend well
@rayanderson1941Ай бұрын
I would blame either Martinelli or Trossard for their second goal. Calafiori was defended the man in front. If you look at a little before the cross came over, Justin was all alone in the box. It seems like when Trossard saw the cross, he reacted. But it was too late.
@Apexseal1Ай бұрын
@@rayanderson1941 i think it was trossard more than martinelli was at fault in this game it seemed like gabi was expected to stay a bit higher with less defensive responsibility, i dont think he was expected to track justin.
@Apexseal1Ай бұрын
@@rayanderson1941 i just re watched the goal and it's definatly calafiori's fault, he is focusing and moving towards buenanonnote as the cross comes in, buenanonnote is already marked by gabriel so cala isn't marking anyone. trossard comes to try and cover for cala but doesnt get there in time. the more i watch it the worse cala's error seems, he's just in no man's land.
@rayanderson1941Ай бұрын
@@Apexseal1 Gabriel can't be marking Buonanotte and he was so far behind him. It was Vardy he was marking at first. Before Vardy made the run in front of Saliba. Calafiori was marking Buonanotte. Remember, you can't mark a forward player if he stays behind you. And Buonanotte was behind Gabriel all the time as the cross was made, till Justin scored the goal. Why Calafiori looked like he was in no man's land, is because he was marking the Leicester player in front of him. And tried to get back to Justin when the cross came over his head. If neither Trossard or Martinelli help with the defending, we will always concede those kind of goals, where the right or left back are free in the box.

I think we definitely should have talked about Raya because to me he clearly looks to be playing at 80% or so. I’ve never seen his passes bounce so much, the emphasis on almost all of his short passes were it there. Not a huge deal but clearly dealing with the thigh problem still.

When Nwaneri came on he had a mean look on his face. Maybe determination, maybe an “I’ll show you” attitude towards Mikel for not sending him onto the pitch sooner. At the time I was a bit bothered by why Mikel hadn’t sent him on sooner, but after time to think a bit more I actually like it if Mikel keeps him in an attitude of “I’ll show you” fire this season rather than making his appearances too easy too early in his career. It was also the right decision to have Ethan as a sub for this match after the 90 mins midweek runout.

ok Alex I think you are quite wrong about Timber he will bench Ben White: Most chances created by a defender in a Premier League game since 2016/17 whilst also providing an assist: ◎ 7 - TAA vs. Burnley (2021) ◎ 7 - TAA vs. Sheff Utd (2023) ◉ 7 - Jurriën Timber vs. Leicester (2024) Arteta's new secret weapon. 😀

Saka and Martinelli both had good games. Both provided some threat in moments. Saka suffers a bit from not having a third player to create situations in the box the way he does with Ode and White, but he still puts up numbers. Martinelli got a goal and assist. At this point I'm just grateful both are showing some form, but especially Martinelli. No need for the nonsense of putting them up against each other needlessly

Its clear how open we are in transitions when Partey plays at 6 . His positioning really bad , cant press properly . Even his passing isnt like before . During a Leicester counter in 2nd half , our whole midfield was empty , rice pressed higher and the player who was supposed to be in the middle was at Rcb. Also during 2nd half , either of Saka/timber got annoyed by Partey's positioning , i remember that .
