Kimmich could easily play at high high level til he is at least 36. He has the class and tenacity to take our squad to an entirely different level. Him holding, Rice in the 8, and odegaard in the attacking midfield position would be a midfield to be reckoned with. This is the type of player we need to really get over a team like City. We must also recognize the fact that we need to win titles NOW. Kimmich is in his prime - physically, mentally and technically. His versatility and experience would be critical to our success. Would allow Odegaard to not have to drop so deep to receive the ball either.

In regards to your conversation about the kids - I feel like a lot of our fanbase have some absolutely bizarre perspectives on how old these players are and how far along their development they are. As you pointed out we haven't lost anyone significant off our books outside of Omari and he was a Chelsea fan so you can put that down to extenuating circumstances. We've brought through Eddie ESR Saka etc... during quite a barren run for our youth academy outside of these players. At the end of the day we haven't been pumping infinite resources into the academy like Chelsea or City have been for a while now - so our fans are latching onto players (like Reull) who just didn't cut the mustard and saying "why isn't he playing! City play kids!". If he was at City he wouldn't be playing either. Then last year I saw loads of people comparing Oscar Bobb getting starts to Nwaneri. Oscar Bobb made his debut at the age of 19. If Nwaneri made his debut at the same age we wouldn't see him play until the 2026/27 season. Our fans need to be way more aware of players ages and what can be expected of them at that age rather than crying about them not getting minutes in pivotal season where we can't afford to drop off if we want to compete for trophies. Hopefully with the promised increase in funding into academy talent we will start seeing more players come through over the coming years - but playing a load of kids in the league cup, most of whom if they pan out we could sell to a championship club for a million quid isn't going to change the trajectory of the club so please stop moaning about it

Kimmich and Eze would be 2 incredible midfield signings. The flexibility and cover in all areas we would have with those 2 would be exactly what we have been missing the last few years. Kimmich will play at a high level still for a long time- and Eze is just hitting his prime.

Thanks for the updates as always Charles. Was getting curious about the Gyokeres situation as it's been constantly coming up in my "Arsenal news" (aka "latest Arsenal meaningless crapola") searches. Hadn't seen anything though from reliable sources such as yourself, Arseblog, Ornstein, or Fabrizio Romano (lately aka the "Chelsea Transfer News Channel").
@gregbeales79453 ай бұрын
Charles just a quick note on the financial point. There is no connection between when the money is paid and whether it can be amortised over the life time of the contract. You can pay the whole thing on day 1 and still amortise the expenditure so it’s spread over a number of years. The club would have to find the actual cash in year one though, so that might mean interest charges etc and there might be cash flow reasons to not want to do this.
@beandec3 ай бұрын
The Eze release clause structure has nothing to do with PSR and purely just impacts club cashflows. For PSR purposes the £60m release clause stretched over a 5 year contracted is still £12m in PSR due to accounting principle of amortization regardless of the exact structure of payment. Similarly, I believe with all Spanish release clauses they would have to be paid in full up front so similarly would have potential cashflow implications but not necessarily PSR implications. Cashflow questions can be fully covered by KSE however so it's just a matter of if the Kroenke's want to cover that potential cost up front.
@catlike13 ай бұрын
Joshua Kimmich would be an interesting signing from a win-now or win-soon perspective. He could fill two roles: in midfield and at RB. He played under Pep so is familiar with positional play. I don't mind signing some older players, as we could use some more experience in the squad. Main issues are his age and salary.

Hey Charles, I was only arguing with a friend of mine who is a United fan the other day about Rice being the 2nd best 6 in the world under Rodri and my friend said Kimmich and I had to give it to him. It's great to be on that list of clubs he wants to play for but Partey or Jorgie would have to go to fit him in. It's a no brainer for me, we will win the league with him Rice and Odegaard in the middle.... As well Kimmich under Tuchel has been an inverted full back so he can step in there if needed as well. I really hope this happens now

@christofferltvedt32003 ай бұрын
Hi Charles. Questions about ESR. There is a lot of talk about his skills/abilities, but do you think part of the reason why Arteta doesn't use him is because he is too weak in the duels? Havertz is taller than ESR but not that much more muscular, but puts a hell of a lot more in every duel. Ødegaard may not be that strong in a duel, but he runs and works like a madman. From everything I've seen of ESR, I feel he lacks something in both of those areas. And is this more mental thing?
@j.b23323 ай бұрын
Hi Charles, what is your thoughts on Dani Olmo? with a €60m release clause surely he must be a realistic option for further strenthening our attacking and midfield options. Would love to hear your thoughts on this as he has been exceptional and one of Spains standout players so far in the Euros.

Loving your work Charles. Do you think whenever we do decide to buy a new number 9 it will be a taller, stronger 9 (like havertz, sesko etc) rather than a smaller quicker striker? This comes after seeing some exciting play by openda for belgium but not sure arteta likes that profile…

We need to improve our sales, the effect of playing our young guns in the Carabao Cup means they are in the shop window. We've got a lot of players that will not get a look in and ther value will not increase, this gives proper experience at a good level and shows other teams the talent we have, improving our ability to sell. Increased sales ability brings increased recruitment availablity and leads to a better more competitive team.

Everyone wants us to be a top, title challenging club but they also want us to be giving every potential youngster a consistent run of games in the first team to develop and become incredible. Unless your youngster is mbappe or bellingham every club that plays lots of unproven youngsters in their first team is middle of the table at best. And yes when it pays off it looks great and they make lots of money, but no one talks about how the others didnt work and that a club like brighton is sitting mid table and never considered to be a potential titlw challenger. What do we as Arsenal fans really want? I want the title

We still need another midfielder even if Kimmich signs. I actually don't want him. He's probably only good for another 2 years before the rapid inevitable drop that comes with age. Look at Son, Kane etc. Kimmich also has an attitude problem and tends to blame and yell at his teammates on the pitch. He won't have the same pull at Arsenal as he does at Bayern. I can actually see Arteta and Kimmich butting heads. This is going to be a poor decision imo. I get people want him for experience, but if that comes at a cost of disrupting the squad, he's not worth it, let alone the high wages as well

On giving young players chances, I believe arteta should NOT play young players in the cups. Arteta should put out strong teams in the cups, and try to WIN the damn trophies. once we have consistently won the cups 3-4 years in a row, maybe in the 5th year we can think about blooding in young talent via cups. But we cant talk like the cups dont matter and we can start academy players in them. We have not won a trophy for 4 years now. I'd be livid if Arteta started academy graduates or even players like Fabio Viera in the cups, unless we are playing a team from League Two or non league maybe, then we can think about starting Fabio Viera.

i get casemiro vibes from kimmich, in the sense that, he was so highly rated, widely considered as someone who could be a leader at utd, serial champions league winner and la liga winner, on very high wages. One good year at the new club, and then looks like a finished player. Wouldn't be surprised if the same happened to kimmich but..... this arsenal team has had a very different atmosphere in the dressing room compared to the widely reported toxic man utd dressing room atmosphere. So we never know, it might turn out to be a decent signing. However, signing a player touching 30, slightly lacking in physicality, bringing him to the Premier League, at that level of wages, sounds risky to say the least. He's the type of signing that has Barcelona written all over it, big name, getting old, possibly will be well and truly past his peak in a couple of years, just bring him in rn to appease the fans, and cry about finances couple years later, and then desperately try to move him on, force him to take a pay cut, or even delay his wages 😹😹

Wouldn't mind us sigining Kimmich, not becuase "it's not my money" but because I think it would be a decent usage of the clubs resources. The club could spend 200m to bring back Yaya Sanogo for all I care in terms of my personal finances - but it would hamstring them sporting wise for years to do so. This is why I do care about what the club spends money on and the "its not my money" cope that fans come out with is just silly

I really can't understand the argument to play our first team in the League Cup, it is meaningless, winning it won't award anyone with any credit as it is considered worthless, compared to other priorities and you can't challenge for all four honours with this squad, especially since there will be even more game congestion with internationals in the form of WC qualifiers this season coming. We simply can't risk fatigue or worse still injuries in the "Teacup" which could derail our potential title charge. It is imperative we prioritise PL and CL imo. Until this team and Arteta win one of these two major honours they will not be considered a success and your peers in the media will undoubtedly agree with this sentiment as well. Arteta already won an FA Cup and still not respected by rival fanbases. PL title and they will have no choice and tbh having now been 21 years since the last title, it is massively overdue and the least the fans deserve after such a huge drought and especially frustrating period in the latter part of Wenger's tenure.

@Ty01386 apart from Trossard, rest hardly got a run, Martinelli had injures, what's your point about all the players you mentioned, Balogun has hardly tore up in a donkey French league..
@Ty013863 ай бұрын
@@elgonm289 Martinelli played 35 times last year, some injury that 🤣. No one is saying Balogun tore up the league, you was trying to put him down, but there is also playere in the current squad who aint doing much better , so your original point is irrelevant
