I think the choice behind Katarina is just genius. Choose a character nobody uses and for which the opponent don't necessarily know the matchup, and use it only at the grand final where anybody couldn't lab it in time. This was like the strategic thinking and finesse only a grand champion like Arslan could achieve, everybody stayed in their confort zone, he chose to step out of it, and getting to be crowned as the king of Tekken. The GOAT.

Not taking away from Arslan, but there is no way CBM didn't know a Katarina match-up. First of all, Katarina has been considered on the cusp of top 5 in Korea for the past season and was widely played, Knee won the afreeca with Katarina for example; When Arslan was asked about the final tierlist, he said that he might put Katarina higher into top5, despite not being a widely used character in Pakistan.He explained that when either Korea or Pakistan supports a character, it usually turns out to be a solid choice.

I don't know how CBM usually plays but I think he's someone who prepares a lot in advance. Against Uslan he almost lost to Bob while he was steaming Kazumi. For how much Uslan was under pressure I don't think he is basically that bad.

Yep, seeing him play more Noctis was most likely discovering Noctis' strenghts/weaknesses and how to counter them. Seems like Katarina's strengths overlaps Noctis' weaknesses. I also remember hearing top Korean players thinking Katarina is stronger than people think. Sad now that we move to T8, we won't be able to discover the possibility of what 2024 T7 tier list would look like.

The biggest learning point of the last 3 yrs is that all these lesser played characters were in fact tournament winner potentials. It shows that the game is well balanced and that a dedication to a character and a good basic ability goes a long way. You can win with any character.@@YTKaedeIchigo
