Great video! Reminds me of the time when someone attacked Who's Afraid of Red , Yellow and Blue III by Barnett Newman. It's considered one of the biggest murders in art history. When the painting was acquired by the Stedelijk in Amsterdam, it genuinely made people angry. That was the effect the huge, almost entirely red canvas had on people. In 1986, the painting was attacked with a Stanley knive by a mentally ill person. He made four long, horizontal cuts and four shorter vertical cuts in the canvas. After it was attacked, naturally the painting had to be restored. After long consideration, it was send to Daniel Goldreyer in the US. He knew Barnett Newman and apparently was the only one who knew how to restore the work. Four years and a million guilders later, the painting returned to Amsterdam. But people saw right away that something was wrong. The beautiful suptle nuances in the colours that made the work stand out, were gone. Apparently, Goldreyer used house paint and a roller to paint over the work! Who's Afraid of Red, Yellow and Blue III was murdered again. This time, for forever. At the moment, we don't have the techniques to undo the damage done to the painting. Hopefully, the work can be restored to it's former glory in the future.

I don’t know why people genuinely see masterpieces that people have spent countless hours on and think “Yeah, imma go destroy it.” Being somewhat of an Artist myself, it really annoys me when I draw something and someone senselessly draws on it by the time I return.

"a man who claimed to love the painting," Yoshikage Kira?
@macy55824 жыл бұрын
My name is Yoshikage Kira. I'm 33 years old. My house is in the northeast section of Morioh, where all the villas are, and I am not married. I work as an employee for the Kame Yu department stores, and I get home every day by 8 PM at the latest. I don't smoke, but I occasionally drink. I'm in bed by 11 PM, and make sure I get eight hours of sleep, no matter what. After having a glass of warm milk and doing about twenty minutes of stretches before going to bed, I usually have no problems sleeping until morning. Just like a baby, I wake up without any fatigue or stress in the morning. I was told there were no issues at my last check-up. I'm trying to explain that I'm a person who wishes to live a very quiet life. I take care not to trouble myself with any enemies, like winning and losing, that would cause me to lose sleep at night. That is how I deal with society, and I know that is what brings me happiness. Although, if I were to fight I wouldn't lose to anyone.

For those who *do* wonder why David's... Uhm, appendage is so small (and why those of men portrayed in other works of art are, too): in antiquity, it was believed that men who were 'well-endowed' were stupid and influenced in a greater way by their base urges and instincts, making them almost animalistic. This is why satyrs are often (if not always!) depicted with a much larger... Thing. A small one was seen as a sign of wisdom, intelligence, and self-control! Michelangelo and other artists during the Renaissance were obviously influenced by Classical Greek and Roman art, and so they adopted and continued this tradition.

This sort of thing has always been happening. In ancient Greece, a guy named Herostratus burned down a temple of Artemis just because he wanted to be remembered for something after he died, even if that thing happened to be a pointless act of vandalism. Unfortunately, it worked. Maybe I shouldn't be sharing this fact around.

Also the night watch in the Dutch museum Het Rijks Museum in Amsterdam, the painting got stabbed with an knife and damaging acid was grown on i also two pieces of the left side and right side were cut of so that it could fit in between a doorway (this one was done by the people who the painting was made for). Recently they’ve put the painting in a glass box to protect it and restoratie it. It’s sad that people need to destroy something beautiful.

After sparking public refuge, it was returned to the UK and sold in Wales. Sombody (believed to be Banksy himself) added a rat with a sign reading "why?"
