They have gotten the recognition actually. In the Jazz world all of these guys are recognized very much. Unfortunately today most of the jazz is watered down with some exceptions of course.

I met Edward Lee Morgan when I was fifteen years old. CARAMBA and CHARISMA was released at the time. I also met Lee Morgan's murderess, Helen Moore. I was completely crestfallen when Lee was murdered by Helen. It was one of the saddest moments of my life. Mogie lives on!

I'm 84 "in 2024" and found my love of jazz thru a cousin in 1955. He owned a joint called the Blue Note in Chicago and every chance I would go downtown and sit in the area he had for under age fans. The story I heard about Night was that the whole band was high on hashish when they wrote it.I was just a young white kid yacking with giants between early sets so who knows what was true.

If anyone has heard "Monday Night at Birdland" (featuring Morgan), which was from a year prior, you will probably recognise a lot of the licks/structure Morgan uses in his solo. It's always cool to see stuff rephrased.

No, Miles Ahead + 19 recorded in 1957. Miles Davis was unimaginably astronomical time leaps beyond Art Blakey and perhaps any other musician in any genre of his times. An obscure fact, the entire Miles Davis orchestrations with Gil Evans were all actually written, composed, and arranged by Miles Davis not Gil Evans. Why you think Miles Davis an AfroAmerican in the late 1950s walked off with all the recognition, not Gil Evans.

@@lawrence-yx1ew Both were magnificent jazz pianists. Bobby's ilk in chords and phrasing, lent itself more towards gospel infused blues. I think with Horace, the tendency was more indicative of West Indies culturally influenced stylings. In either case they both made huge contributions to the never ending story of the American jazz art form.

Art Blakey is great to watch and listen to. I get a kick every time I see a new video. His left right independence is fantastic yet the whole band always comes first. A weaker musician would have surrounded themselves with inferior musicians. Art had the confidence and style to lead. I wish I had met him.

In Brussels in 1958, amazing performance of all of them. The concert took probably place in the Beaux Arts Théatre , at the occasion of the World Exhibition that took place in Brussels in that year. Someone correct me, if i'm wrong.
