Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is a modern masterpiece. In this first video of a series, I'm going to re-create my own 3D Spider-Man in this rich visual style. To begin, I will reverse-engineer the major elements so that you can re-create this effect at home, focusing specifically on the balance of 2D & 3D. Best movie of 2018. Massive props to Sony Animation.

Part 2: • ART BREAK DOWN of SPID...
Part 3: • ART BREAK DOWN of SPID...
Part 4: coming soon
Massive respect to Alberto Mielgo who, to me, is the artistic style that speaks loudest in every frame of this movie. Dripping in next-level world shattering aesthetics.

After watching the movie, I was absolutely blown away by the art style. It’s something that I have never seen before. It has greatly inspired me in terms of animation and drawing. I seriously love this style.

I’ve been clamoring over the art style of this movie. This and rewatching Samurai Jack inspired me to get back into drawing. I want to try digital sculpting too. Great video and very well-explained. Looking forward to the rest of the series. Cool bonus that you’re half flip 🇸🇽✊🏼

7:47 Chromatic aberration doesn't fulfill its usual purpose in SpiderVerse though. It's a simulacra of misprinted comic book colours that acts as a sort of depth of field to help focus the eye on what matters in the shot.

Very true. I made this video back when this info wasn't as readily available, but yes that is the true inspiration for using that technique! Very cool. I'm covering environments in Part 4.

Pretty good video the only complaint that I have it's the deep compositing defenition that you gave, the render passes compositing it's pretty common, in fact, it's very difficult to compose without render passes. Deep Compositing is compositing with a very special kind of image that have 3d and layering information per pixel. Keep up with the good work.

Have you looked into Blender 2.8 for its Grease Pencil feature for 3D linework? It’s pretty awesome and free. It also has a line renderer called Freestyle which is also worth looking at.
@MANIAKRA
@MANIAKRA 5 жыл бұрын
Yes, I have! This is actually how I am tackling the linework which I will show in Part 3 of the series. I didn't render inside Blender though since I will be using Arnold which is what Spiderverse also used to render. Thanks for the suggestion though I appreciate it :)

I found a video at one point where someone from the team went into how things like the face lines were added. They created a library of "this is how the line should look while the face is in this position" and let an algorithm try to guess for a bunch of frames, they would then go through and make changes and then add the changes to the library. They also mentioned paper man as heavy inspiration on how to do things if I remember right.

The thing is... I love this movie... I watched this movie more than 8 or 10 times. I love it so much. I loved it so much that I had to do research on what technology they used, the behind the scenes, and so much more. I wanted to animate my own stuff by using same or similar tactics that the people used to make the Spiderverse movies. I will keep looking at this movie for inspiration, research, and knowledge. But I must know... If you know... Can you at least give me the name of the software the spectacular team used to create Spider-Man Into The Spiderverse movie!? And thank you for taking the time do analyze this movie!
