I love how well Miguel as a villain represents the fundamental flaw of the Spider Society’s doctrine: that Spider-People are defined by their trauma and that their trauma is essential. Miguel is completely defined by his trauma: everything he now does is rigidly defined by the trauma he suffered. And it makes sense that this would allow him to command the respect of the other Spider-People who have almost all suffered some trauma of their own.
@joshuawilliams947 Жыл бұрын
I’m convinced that canon events as Miguel aren’t even real and it’s another comment on audiences fixation on canon that’s portrayed through Miguel, like audiences rejection of Miles as Spider-Man. For example, neither Earth-42 or Miles’s universes were destroyed by his supposed anomaly and Pavitr’s canon event was only caused by the Spot, who is supposed to be an anomaly caused by Miles. I think that Miguel is just overwhelmed by guilt for what happened to his family and has burdened that on all of spider society, the moral being that everyone is different, there is no set path in life that defines you or that you or anyone else can control
@mackielunkey2205 Жыл бұрын
And if you read the comics or look up his history, Miguel trying to give his trauma meaning is more understandable when you realize that his father was abusive. Stuff like that can really fuck somebody up to the point of trying rationalize it, so it makes sense that Miguel would try to make people do that too.

@@zainab_hashmiii They did something similar in Spiderman Homecoming, and I kind of get it, but like...I agree with you. Too much of Miles and Gwen's home life, but also, I related to them so much throughout it all. I loved the slice of life, but there was SO much of it. Left me kinda wanting more action, like, even the action felt really laid back, as if they had fewer ideas for plot and way more ideas for corny jokes, which is fine, but I mean, come on. I guess the point was to juxtapose how immature they are. Even the adults were either out of their depth, which was hilarious, or far too diabolical for their own good, which felt mean spirited. It left me wanting more answers, more characters who actually knew what they were doing. We didn't get more of that til the middle. There is too much setup in this movie to satisfy me completely, but I'm fine with it. I'm fine with being a little unsatisfied, so long as the third part is everything we are promised and more, so long as this sequel is only so saturated in filler to give the animators and writers a chance to breath, which is weird to say considering this movie was actually kind of perfect. Animation-wise, character-wise, this movie went above and beyond. I can forgive them for shoehorning us a bit. It's still well worth the money. It's just...I dunno. That’s a great point that Gwen’s arc adds a component of completion to the narrative. She and her father reconcile, tying up that thread, but the fact that her father did not stay captain and thus did not have to die spurs her on to save Miles and in turn, his father as well.

I somehow missed the notice that it was going to be a two-parter and I was so invested into the story that by the end I didn't even realize 2 hours has crossed. Honestly for me, the extremely fast pace of the jokes worked for me. It always felt fun to notice them, but they never felt like they were detouring from the plot itself to tell the jokes, but rather the jokes were interwoven into the larger world, as such a serious thing as the endangerment of the multiverse would feel undercut if every joke was worth slowing down for, but when they are more like small quips thrown in, they become a lot more natural. The jokes can even give the film more enjoyment from a rewatch, as if there was anything you missed, you’d probably pick it up on a second viewing. Not every joke needs to land or be funny as long as that joke isn’t the focus of the audience. With the focus mostly always having either action, it creates an environment where the comedy acts as essentially the films garnish. Not necessarily integral to the dish, but it does make it look a lot prettier. Idk, that’s just my take away.

Jason Schwartzman as The Spot was PERFECT casting. Jason’s characters in movies (most notably gideon from scott pilgrim) are always nerdish and snarky, but here in across the spiderverse, it felt so natural. There was actually a snippet in Miguel's lair where you could see footage of The Spot on one of his screens, and the reason why the post-credit scene was cut was because it felt ill-fitting with the cliffhanger.
@andrewsigler7437 Жыл бұрын
I understand wanting more of The Spot because of how good he was when he was on screen, but I think having Miguel take over as the primary antagonist of the film was a a very purposeful and meaningful decision. Even though Miles didn't want to accept it at first, The Spot is his nemesis. And not just that, he was always destined to be Miles' nemesis. Yes, it's natural for Miles to want to focus his efforts on stopping him, but after learning more about the multiverse, he keeps himself from doing so. This is because he learns about the meta nature of all Spider-mens' fate. Certain people are always supposed to die, and certain villains are supposed to be fought with to the bitter end. But Miles refused to accept that that's the way things need to be. Continuing to engage with The Spot would only be playing into the hand of Destiny. Miguel isn't supposed to be rejected by Miles. He's a good guy, and so are all of the other Spider-men who listen to him. Refusing, rebelling against and fighting off all of them is Miles' only real way to combat destiny itself. And I believe that's what the theme of the movie is at its core. That love and humanity have value that can surpass seemingly infallible algorithms and data-based utilitarian solutions. It's about finding another way even when all logic and reason seems to tell you that there is none.

I was bopping my head each time banger music came throughout watching the film. What I love the most was when Miguel and Gwen's OST were mixed together into something that was mindblowing. Really love the movie so much!

I was pretty sad that Peter B didn't have a bigger role in this film since he qas my favourite character from Into the Spiderverse. That being said though, it wasn't all too bad since he was the Deutragonist of the first film, so its nice that they were able to give more focus to Gwen this time around. It was also really wholesome to see him get his happy ending since he really earned it after last film. I just wish that his conversation with Miles and how he saw him as his own son was a bit more fleshed out. It made me really sad to see him behaving so passively while Miles was being grilled by Miguel since he was Miles' mentor. Hopefully next film we get to see more of him and Mayday; it'd be nice to maybe see him stand up to Miguel in defense of Miles. It'd be really cool to see him fight as well, maybe against Ben, being his broody clone and all.

I definitely get where you’re coming from but for me after decade upon decade of Peter Parker being the focus character in Spider-Man stories, I will accept the minor sacrifice of a version of him I like getting a bit less to do in exchange for Miles getting to be at the forefront as I feel he more than deserves

"Nah. Imma do my own thing." That line is going to *DEFINE* who Miles Morales is as a character going forward. Where as previously it was "that's all it is Miles. A leap of faith." Before it was someone else who helped define him. Now, he's defining himself. They've done a great job at setting up the fact he does things his way; he doesn't just swing across NYC he runs, he does parkour cause that's what MILES is good at and loves to do. His god damn shoelace is still untied in that iconic falling/rising shot. He openly challenges Miguel where most everyone just seems to blindly follow. He does graffiti and tags places across NYC. His own suit is a showcase of who he is and what he loves to do. And it breaks the mold of what a traditional Spider-Man suit looks like and how it's often made. Miles at his core is about redefining what it means to be Spider-Man; that he isn't JUST Spider-Man. He's Miles Morales too. Which is something the other spiders seem to forget. That Peter had to be reminded of. That you can be both the person under mask, and the hero. I think they're going to set it up to have him finally break the curse of Spider-Man. And it's going to be amazing to witness.

I do agree he breaks the mold for sure, but to say the others just blindly follows miguel weakens everyone including Miguel's character. They follow miguel because he keeps it together, he keeps the spiderverse together. He himself already done what miles is trying to do and suffered horribly having to watch his family once again be ripped away from him. Miles is just doing what miguel did and miguel is doing everything possible to stop him before he ruins actually everything. A metaphor he uses which speaks volume to his perspective and why everyone follows him is "would you save 1 person or every world of worlds in the spiderverse" or something similar basically asking the whole world or 1 person you care about. Miles of course thinks he can do both "does his own thing" Now I don't doubt he will be able to do both because you have to have a happy ending or otherwise it won't be satisfying apparently. I don’t know if Spot vanishing is really that bad. For one, most of the conflict with Miguel centers AROUND the conflict with Spot; Spot is the one who’s going to kill Jeff, after all, and it isn’t until basically the end of the fight that his other motivations are brought up. For two, it feels similar to the conflict between Gwen and her father for me; yes, it’s put on the back burner for a large portion, but it’s still there in the back of your mind, like a ticking time bomb waiting to blow up.

Gwen went from being scared, leaving bands, estranging her father, falling in with people who didnt trust her to being confident, creating her own band not looking for approvement in others, reconciling with her dad and finally having a goal and believing in herself that she knows whats right or wrong. @@sentientmustache8360 I thought about a theory and this might be dumb, but maybe Jeff's death is not a canon event and can be prevented without causing an anomaly. Because in the original Spider-Man comics and in the TASM the Captain who died is a father of Spider-Man's girlfriend, and the Police Captain who Miles saved in Mumbattan is the father of Pavitr's love interest. What if since Jeff is not a father of Miles's love interest, Jeff's death does not count as a canon event. There's a pattern there, their death is not because of being a Police Captain, it's about being a father to a love interest.

Captain Stacy's death is pivotal because Spider-Man was hated by Gwen after that in the comics and it taught him a lesson to always keep her safe, and if the Police Captain of Mumbattan died, then that would've probably also taught Pavitr something. But in the case of Miles? Jeff's death wouldn't teach him anything that he didn't already know.
