Such a wonderful conversation from artists that clearly have different styles, but are so supportive of each other’s views. Great interview. I have to check out Angela’s channel. Being free and experimenting is difficult for this newbie of only nine years of art, but I’m going to try it. Can’t wait to buy the tee shirt!😁

I met Angela in Edmonton, Alberta, I think in 2019, when I was pretty new to watercolor, and I was in a room full of what I thought were very experienced artists. I remember I had travelled a long way and I brought just a a small tin of paints in a 16 1/2 pan tin because I had to pack it all in a suitcase to get on an airplane. One student pointed to my tin and said to Angela, "look at that!" kind of with a laughing tone. Angela just looked at it and nodded, not responding with either a positive or negative way. I was so embarrassed by that comment , but so relieved that Angela didn't think one way or another about it. Thanks so much for not judging anyone by their art supplies either, Angela! And I will see you again soon in Santa Fe!

I participated in Angela’s inaugural Master class years ago and learned so much- I had begun to use water color a few years prior, so her For Intermediate Students approach was perfect for me to work & improve at my own pace. I still bring to mind her Notan class when Angela, personally, gave me feedback on a painting I had done before the class and gently noted I wasn’t picking up enough pigment so the piece was mostly mid-tone. The focus on my own work for a specific problem I could not see on my own was invaluable. Thanks Leslie! Great chat & interview! Though I’ve moved on to acrylics, I still like to watch your content for new supply recommendations. The masking powder s on my shelf to try, looks so fun!

Hullo Lindsay, I do enjoy watching your videos and seeing how you bring out the artists that you invite to talk in your environment or “show” I am not a follower of Angela, I have been introduced to her work, yet simply did not believe that it was something that was for me, now who knows what speaks to you when you are watching or open to their path they happen to be on at the present. Thank you for sharing this conversation with us! You are truly an incredible artist and genuine person. I am looking forward to seeing your next podcast.

I think these podcasts give a really behind the scenes look at your channels as a business. Being a hobbyist that watches and listens, I don't feel I need to a heart, like or a comment from channels I watch. I comment usually only to help your channels with the algorithm and occasion when an opinion is requested or when the person seems to need an encouraging word. I loved her discussion on travel and the story of saving sketchbooks from a fire.

Thank you for another great podcast and opportunity to meet another artist from our community. It was very intersting to hear you both talk about how people who contact you may feel it's a personal connection, but it's more of a business connection.

POV as a past internet seller (back in the early 2000s!). If you can't respond to every email, put an autoreply on your emails that says something like: "I can't respond to every email. Here's a link to my frequently asked questions page". Simply ignoring the emails probably loses customers. Also, the internet is like the smallest small town. Just thoughts. Thanks for the interview, Lindsay.

If it has to be taught in a workshop it isn't intuitive. Just like if you have to read a book it isn't self help. Smh
@thefrugalcrafter7 ай бұрын
I think that providing a space to work and encouraging people to paint what they want while giving practical advice about the materials can still be done and it facilitates the students (and gives them petmission) to be free and pint intuitively. It might sound weird but many people won't create at home because they are so hung up on the things they "should" be doing so workshops give them space where there is nothing else they have to do but paint, quilt. Scrapbook, etc. I don't know if it is so much of teaching someone to paint intuitively or providing an environment where it can happen. Maybe Angela will pop in and explain it better. I don't want to speak for her, but she has a lot of students that get tremendous value from her workshops.

I think that it is like brain storming, watching other artists working. To me hearing other ideas of how to create stimulates and helps me see other ways of doing things, opens doors, enabling explororation.
