Thank you for this great video Dutchess! I appreciated being apart of it and getting to hear different takes from u and the other creators. If anything, this just proves that there are plenty of wonderful art commentary creators that are willing to improve the community as a whole and I'm sure plenty of viewers feel the same way. When it comes to racism, i think it's important for both white and BIPOC voices to unite in calling it out and standing firmly against it. Only then can we really make any meaningful change. Thank you again for having me be apart of this discourse! 💜

This is an important video to make and I think you and the other creators you interviewed made very very valuable points and established their opinions well. You're very well worded and the way you explain things is perfect. Thank you so much for inviting me to share my opinion on what I believe to be an important matter on a community I both am in and create content more. The commentary community needs to do better- and it will. I believe that it will, with a little bit of work, and I think this video is a good start to seeing things get fixed for the better. GREAT STUFF!! 💙💙💙

Aaaaa it's here!! You really did an exceptional job at going over everyone's points with the required care, while still adding to them with some very good thoughts of your own! Hopefully people will see this and take the time to reflect on what's being said; of course ppl are allowed to feel wound up, who wouldn't be after everything (especially regarding creepshow)? But its so important to come back down too and remember that we are the art cc, not the drama cc. Afhdhh sorry im rambling but really, great job again & thank you for letting me be a part of this ^^

ahhh sejhfk thank you so much!! i'm really glad you think so ;; i hope so too! i really do think the art cc can heal from recent events if we come together and try to, and whether that's naive hope or not, i'm still just happy to be trying to make that happen with a group of people (that's u) that wants the same. it feels like positive solidarity against all the negativity and it fills my cold dead heart with joy lmaooo

I agree with what you all said here! When I came to youtube and started to watched people I looked for those that mostly did things on art as well as music, but it took me a while to find ones that weren't all about the drama and more about the art...I also watch Thumin as well! I do enjoy that you let us know how you feel when things seem to crazy like this now a days. P.S. Love the piece has a pop art feel to it and the background kinda reminds me of that old tv show (Save by the Bell!) Oh man..I'm soo old! XD

I have to admit, I’m relatively unfamiliar with the material at hand because I generally try to steer clear from the art cc- but I am still genuinely delighted to hear your well thought out perspective on all of this as well as those of the other creators in this video. Admittedly, all of the (recent) drama in the art community on KZbin is what has, for the most part, kept me from doing any kind of voice-over on my videos at all (the other reason being, well- anxiety) but I finally pushed myself to just record myself info dumping about one of the characters in my story last week and will be uploading that tomorrow. I still find it rather scary but this video gave me a bit of hope that maybe some people in the community will simply enjoy a bit of rambling about character design and stuff ^^ So, thanks Paige =)

Dude, you sounded like you could have burst into tears a couple times, you're so strong for putting this together. I'll admit, I do love some tea now and again, but even though I'm subbed to a few people who post tea on the regular, I don't watch every video. I can't spend my life focusing on tea because the fact is, when you surround yourself in drama, you spend your life miserably. I'm here to vibe and have a good time, not gossip about the skeletons that everyone and their brother seems to have in their closet. I very RARELY make a commentary on a drama, in fact I think the only drama I made a commentary on was noralities, and I was too chicken to post that one here so I put it on my alt, because I was speaking in her defense. After some self searching I decided I'm going to write a script for a new video on her and post it here, I've decided I'm not afraid if people want to drag my name in the dirt, I know what I stand for, I stand for a fair trial. Literally while everyone was crapping on shanon I was out here thinking "but why is she like this what if she's in danger" because the elephant in the room that is her husband has me extremely concerned for her well being, but I haven't seen anyone bring it up. And even though what she did is wrong and her actions can't be justified, I strongly believe that intent and/or circumstance has a major impact on the level of forgiveness you gave to someone. Overall, I want this community to be happy again, this and the vocaloid community are collectively my home on the internet. And it feels as though both of these communities are going to crap half the time, but the thing is, staying silent won't fix it. Leaving the community won't fix it either. We need to block out the toxicity and fight for that fun loving community that we long for. I think if more creators like you were appear who make good videos just talking about art and their experience in the art world, and very occasionally give and opinion on something mildly drama related, and just kept going forward and being that shining beacon of hope, things would begin to get a whole lot better. (And yes Celestia I think you're a beacon of hope) After hearing you speak on the personal connection we can feel with creators, and the betrayal we can feel when they turn out to be grad A dinguses, it made a lot more sense to me why that feeling was so heavy in my heart to encourage you. I've always had these weird gut feelings that certain people need to hear stuff, and over the years I just learned to stop fighting them. Keep being the amazing strong person you are, I'm going to support forever 💖

oh my gosh, i don't even know where to begin answering this, you're just??? unbelievably kind and my little heart is not adequately equipped to process it?? thank you so much for both your kind words and for sharing all of that - you made some exceptionally insightful points, and i absolutely agree. i really respect that you're so true to yourself and your beliefs - that's a super admirable trait to have, and it takes a lot of strength to stand by it, and with that in mind, i think /you're/ a beacon of hope (not to mention the unfortunately uncommon degree of kindness you're clearly extending to even the most vilified of creators. so you keep being the amazing strong person you are too

I wholeheartedly agree with this message, especially when addressing more serious topics such as racism and transphobia within the art cc. That being said, I decided to step down from the art cc of things mostly because it was mentally/emotionally draining on my end and I felt like I couldn't go on any further without any negative feelings, so now I just do regular art videos sometimes with art-related topics and more down-to-earth content which I felt like it's a better path moving forward. Once again, thanks for such an insightful video and I definitely agree with the critiques of this community and the improvements to make along the way~

Find a topic that you like, write out your ideas on a piece of paper, record art / video game play and just go. people think you need a good mic and good set up and you really dont. As long as your points are clear and concise, you'll do fine.

im trying to decide on whether i should start doing art commentary myself. ive only discovered you a few days ago but the inspiration it's all giving me is more than im used to. i know the community has been a little concerning with all of the drama, but i just wanna talk about cool art things and possibly be an inspiration to others out there. this video helped me understand what's better to work towards and what should be avoided in the future. i just wanna thank you for that.

Honestly, one small thing I wish commentary channels would also do, is to make a clear distinction between a call out and a critique video. Like, telling others that a creator is misusing their power and is a potential threat to others and a video were you just say that a creator is bad at research should not be handled the same. That's something that really annoyed me when a few years back many commentary channels went after the story time animation channels. They claimed that they were only giving constructive criticism, yet a lot of them were pretty aggressive and would even attack the creators personally. You can make a critique about a creator, but then make it a critique, not an "omg, their content is so bad, they don't deserve all this attention they're getting" video.
@DuchessCelestia
@DuchessCelestia 3 жыл бұрын
yes, that’s an excellent point!! the difference between constructive criticism and personal attacks needs to be strongly emphasized, and it definitely isn’t right now 😔

I used to love creepshow and so many other creators. It is so sad when things started to derail and I actually unsubbed to her after she took the Harassment against Peaches to another level. But after Emily Artful came out with everything , I was shocked. But I do agree with Thumin on racism. Many things are not being addressed such as racism, transphobia and taking cancel culture to far. The racism against Thumin, the transphobia against Pixie and all these witch hunts have gone to far. It is sad how no one is handling the situation like they should instead of throwing insults, threats of death and harm around. Over a picture or someone's race or sex. Stuff like this makes ask a bunch of questions I know the answer to. And this drama burns me out a lot and much more. But I do agree with your points. I hope this spreads.
@DuchessCelestia

yeah, i very much relate - it’s appalling and beyond disappointing to see how much hate lurks beneath the surface of what seems like an innocent and positive community, especially with thumin and piixie’s situations - i can only hope that by talking about it openly and consistently, we can drive away that kind of ignorant hatred and make this a better, safer place for every creator and viewer alike.

Wow! An actual good video about/on the commentary community? I've watched your other video long ago, and you've come far from then! I completely agree with literally everything you said! (watching the video while I write!) I especially agree with what you said about cancel culture! I mostly see this mob mentality especially when an creator is called out as an pedophile. I have a HUGE opinion about this, since I have some experiences with this stuff. I think anyone can change. No matter if you have said some weird stuff to a 14-year old. And I still think the same. Just because they did one bad thing, doesn't mean they have to get death threats and being doxxed. Yes, what they did is bad, but I have hope they can change. If they don't prove to change, welp, that's sad as they are wasting away their life. If they do, that's great!!! I hope for the best for them and am really proud! I even think Creepshow can change. But that's just me. I try not to send "ill-will" to others. I just came across the point about racism, and I'd like to say some things as a person of colour: Yes, racism is huge, but I wouldn't say it's the biggest issue the community. I think my point above is more I guess an issue? Let me explain. After the whole "Black Lives Matter" situation, I've gotten tired of it after people started using the protests as an excuse to riot. I even had riots happening in my own city (thankfully, I wasn't involved in it), which was very sad to see the city I love tore about by race. I do believe people of color matter, but I believe all people matter. As I always say,: "I don't care what race, sexuality, or gender you are, i'm still going to hate you". Not very inspiring, but still works lol Don't feel bad about talking of race as a white creator! I believe that's a good thing because you see there are people out there being shunned about their race, and I believe anyone can speak up about it! Just of course in a respectful manner. Okay I'm going to stop writing for now due to the fact this is getting too long lmao I do have more to say, but for now that's the end of my ted talk! Overall, your video is very well researched and well done that it's sad so little people will see it due to your following. I'm going to definitely recommend you to one of my best friends! Now if you will excuse me, I'm going to go watch those creators you worked with in the video :)

One really depressing point of the problem did not get covered here. The Internet remembers everything. Even if you try to erase a tweet you no longer see as appropriate, there will still be a million and one screenshot of it while it existed that are still all over the Internet. And at the same time the very abundance of available information makes it easy to miss some of it. So unless from now on your entire online presence is atoning for that sin you committed way back then, there will be a number of people who say the sin and totally missed that you try to correct it. And outrage being an emotion hard to keep in, those people will most likely form a loud minority that sets the tone of discussion around the situation.
