Wow, I stuck around because I liked the colour composition and perspectives in this piece. Didn't expect it to be so motivational! That advice was perfect as it doesn't _JUST_ apply to art. Finding your own meaning in anything you do and sticking to it can apply to many things and I'm sure a lot of people appreciate that advice. :)

Whenever I see things like this where you get not only the end linework, but more importantly the beginning sketching done it always makes me more confident. There's so much messing around with sketches, trial and error of how things should be positioned before it looks right, and so many videos that show the process of drawing only cover that end point. Plague, you're quickly becoming my favourite artist to watch.

In all seriousness I'm only 20 minutes in and I can already tell this is gonna be one of your higher quality releases, you've really improved in including a lot more detail but not crowding the picture with it, giving the entire scene depth but not making it confusing. uh, if that makes sense that is...

Regarding the TES lore, Humans are not from Tamriel, but they're not like aliens, because they are from Nirn (which is the planet, Tamriel being a continent), Nords are from Atmora (and subsequently all humans besides redguards are also from Atmora), and Redguards are from a place whose name I can't remember right now

I'm glad to hear that going insane while working on Animation is normal. I'm a 3D animator myself, and I was spending over 12 hours a day standing in front of a computer monitor working. It gave me chills, anxiety problems, and even a couple of panic attacks. I'm almost certain that I developed cabin fever by being inside a room for so long and so often (3 weeks). I thought it was something in my mind, but I'm relieved to find that it was just my absurd work ethic. I really need to slow down.

Hey Plague, love your work. I just wanted to leave this comment because at the end of this video, you really spoke to me, I'm a guy with ideas swirling around in my head, and no real way to get them out. I'm no artist, I have a hard time wrapping my head around just the concept of it: I see a blank piece of paper, and suddenly you change it into an explosion of color and detail, and it just blows my mind. But, I'm getting off track, the whole point of this comment is just to say: Thanks for being awesome, telling people to not give up, follow their dreams, and all that emotional, generic shit, it really helps people like me out.

Plague you actually helped me get back into drawing, I'm not just saying that YOU REALLY DID... when I went to college a few years ago and did 3D modeling I barely did anything 2D wise. After that I lost my confidence in myself and the comments on my old work being compared to Seth Mcfarlanes style didn't help. But you got me back into it and the work I've drawn so far has really uplifted me. Thanks man
@theshawnarm

When I was a kid I drew every day. Then as time went on It petered off, spiked again in college because I also went to graphic design classes (didn't like it), and it's been over 10 years since I've drawn anything. A lot of bad life things caused me to become depressed, and as a side effect I lost complete confidence in myself as an artist (depression steals a lot from you but that I miss the most). Lately, I've been wanting to get back into drawing because I remember the joy it always brought me. The ideas never stopped, but the creative connection between my brain and hands has withered over the years and it's difficult to even start anymore. Your advice is very sound, and to anyone out there who is suffering through the same I can confirm, don't stop drawing. Draw nonsense, scribble bullshit if you have to. Just don't stop. Like he said, no one has to see it.

I find it comforting that even someone I see as a great artist say they've given up drawing for such a long time but eventually got back up and pick it up again. I've been in that situation where I stop drawing for long periods of time, and it still happens from time to time that feeling of just giving up cause you think its too late. I always had this passion to create and have somewhat of a decent amount of talent in drawing that it can at least look decent so my problem was never the lack of ideas but more so the lack of self-esteem. When I had the chance to take the course(Digital Animation) that I wanted, I was so sure that I would follow through ( I passed the test for to enroll for it after all). But my parents wanted me to take another course, which my weak ass can't refuse in the end cause I'm so easy to guilt trip. For 2 and a half years I walk out of that course a dead man, it was internship as well so it totally drain my energy and passion. I lost my way and really drop off hard in my academics, so in the end my parents gave in and just let pick a course I wanted and try again. Glad that they came to their senses but my decision to not follow through originally has weaken my resolve. I'm so self conscious seeing people younger already at a higher level I just felt guilty and worried that it was too late anyways, but watching other artist say they've know this struggle really helps keep me pushing. So thanks Plague. I'll donate to your patreon once I get a job and have steady income. My money is pretty much controlled so I can't buy things willy nilly.

PlagueOfGripes, not being happy with your current abilities doesn't make you a bad illustrator, it makes you a promising one. I work in programming, design and illustration and know some exceptional people in all three domains, not one of them is even remotely happy with their current abilities - even though some of them work at the very edge of their respective fields. I hope sincerely that you never give up chasing what you consider to be the skills you should have, and that you never reach them as well.

Fantastic artwork, and some wonderful commentary. You are spot on with your comments on low confidence, it's very important to keep trying despite difficulties. The part about how difficult some games are to get into was pretty right, though I do know there are a FEW people who can enjoy getting into fighting games alone, they're challenge-addicts who like grinding against insanely difficult walls, but they aren't too common. Still it was very accurate, it's much more enjoyable to get into fighting games or even most multi-player-centric games with a good friend.

I can tell that you are improving Plague. Your backgrounds have improved drastically as well as your line work. The only thing I would say as far as improving color theory goes is that when fiddling with colors, it helps to focus less on realism and more on what makes the picture pop out. It helps when you do not have to focus on whether the shading is correct or if the picture adheres to the set light source in the image you are trying to make. But that's just my two cents and who am I but a fan of your work. Any who thanks for the great video and I wish you the best of luck with your work.

Most enjoyable, I would like to see more talks like the Gripes about horror, however. Also, I now know that Plague/you(take your pick whoever is reading this) has/have (again) a DeviantArt page, time to go creep. ^_^

Those hands (well and the rest so far) look pretty damn decent. I can never get details to look the way I want to because I'm a bit too shaky and there's no "resistance" on a tablet like there is on paper.

Lets see if I remember it right. The Et'ada, or gods, were in Atherius, the realm of the gods, and the god Lorkhan, who is descended from Sithis, the manifestation of the abyss, came up with the idea to create a new realm of their own creation. Mundus, the mortal realm is created, however the architect of Mundus, Magnus, discovered that contributing to the creation of the mortal realm saps the et'ada of their divinity. So he bailed early on, ripping a huge hole from Mundus, through Oblivion, and to Atherius on his way out; that hole eventually would be called the Sun is how the energy of Atherius, named Magicka after Magus came to exist in the mortal realm. Work continued until Mundus was almost complete, then all the Et'ada figured out what was happening to them. Most fled back to Atherius, drained of most their divinity and thus made much smaller holes through Oblivion, the stars. The gods that would become the Eight Divines decide that, while they stopped giving up their divinity, they'd stick around and take care of Mundus and are visible as the several planets. Lorkhan was executed by Trinimac, the halves of Lorkhan's body became the moons, and his heart was out on an arrow and shot into the "earth", called Nirn. The Et'ada who completely lost their divinity and became mortal, now called the Elnouphy, came to live on Nirn. Most were scattered around Nirn, but a small portion somehow stayed in a group. The small group that stayed together attempted to continue on their traditions from their days as gods and were called the Old Elnouphy, but the majority that had been scattered had to adapt to their various environments and change their ways, the majority came to be called the Wanderers. The Wanderers eventually all found one another and grouped together. Then they found the Old Elnouphy and thought there would be celebrations for their return, but the Old Elnouphy looked down on them and cast them out. So there was a war which led to the Old Elnouphy's continent, Aldmeris, to sink to the bottom of the ocean and then they all spread out again. The decendents of the Old Elnouhpy eventually became the various races of Elves, and the descendents of the Wanderers eventually became the various human races. Argonians apparently were regular lizards that became sapient due to the will of a race of sapient trees called the Hist. I completely forget the origin of the Kajhiit, but since their forms are so dependent of the phases of the moons, Lorkhan's body pieces, to the point that when the Thalmor made the moons disappear all the Kajhiits had still born children until they brought the moons back.

Humans in the elder scrolls verse aren't aliens, however they are outsiders to the continent of Tamriel. The world is called Nirn, but that goes as far as to include the entire plane of existence, similar to the material plane of D&Ds stock setting. The first people arrived at its shores by a mass exodus from their homeland across the sea, a desolate and predator filled land. This emigration continued until pretty much nothing but boats of corpses were hitting the shores and the old land was assumed lost. Those first people became the nords, and settled in Skyrim. They then proliferated throughout the land becoming distinct groups of the Breton, men who mixed with the Mer and the Imperials who were slaves of the Alyeids until their eventual revolt and genocide of those people. Redguards came later after their homeland was destroyed by war, literally. Ancient redguard swords men could split the very earth asunder with sword techniques now lost. The fracturing of their homeland spurred them flee and start a new life in Tamriel. The Mer were actually the natives of Tamriel, being made up of the Chimer (later Dunmer following the curse placed by Azura), the Altmer, the Dwemer (later time warped themselves out of existence leaving only ruins, ghosts and one single survivor afflicted with Corpus), the snow elves (nearly wiped out by the nords, or more accurately 500 nords lead by Ysgramor) before being driven into the halls of the Dwemer who betrayed, enslaved and blinded them reducing them to the Falmer. (Interestingly the snow elves did not have a 'mer' name before to my knowledge and the Falmer only refers to their fallen kin. Solid naming convention.) The other elven nations are the Bosmer or wood elves a society of cannibalistic, xenophobic forest dwellers that live in giant moving trees and refuse to eat plant matter at least in their homeland and the Orsimer or orcs. Orcs were once pretty elves before their leader was eaten by Boethia and became Malacath who in turn transformed his old followers into the Orsimer. The Argonians and Khajiit were both native to Tamriel as well, and you got enough of the lore on the Khajiit right that I won't bother with them. Fuck I love the elder scrolls. Not a big fan of Prequel though. Good video.

Actually the Nedes which were an ancient race of men existed in Tamriel until they were ethnically wiped out. What we can say is that the Nede legacy survived through their culture and the Bretons. You see the Ayleids had a lot of Nede slaves which had been known for using as sex slaves as well. Well as you can there were a lot of rape babies. The Ayleids fell their progeny flourished and prospered into the Man-mer we know as Bretons, the so called "Masters of Magicka." Nords immigrated from Atmora to Tamriel settling into Skyrim. A faction broke off and went to Cyrodiil who became the Imperials. Redgaurds came from Yokuda and settled into Hammerfell.

Sounds about right, pretty sure the Ayleids also light human children on fire for sport. They were also present in Cyrodil before the Imperials revolted and butchered them en masse. After that they took over their capital and formed the nation of Cyrodil which later became the seat of the Empire. Forgot about the Nede and the Ayleids I admit but my main point was people of Tamriel aren't really aliens, they are just immigrants for the most part.

Nikolaus Dorfner There's another form of elves apparently. There are some underwater elves that few people have seen. I've forgotten what they are called but along with those and the dwemer there are three different forms of elves that no one sees anymore.

The khajiit birth thing is probaby one of the more complicated and confusing things in Elder Scrolls. Basically it all depends on the two moons that they've named... Something I can't remember, and whatever position or form the moons are at the time will depend on what type of child is born. So if the moons are in one way they'll birth a giant fuck you tiger, but if they are a different way then you get the khajiits most people see instead of the tigers, giants, and kittens oh my. This is all I can remember from the top of my head if you want more look up the elder scrolls lore video that on KZbin somewhere.
