Roman Szmal seems a promising brand. Thanks for sharing the color swatches

Thanks for watching 💕 Yeah, I really like the quality of the paints and their color range. Totally check out Dr. Oto Kano’s swatching sessions (linked in the description) for all the colors, she does an amazing job at talking about them all!

The roman szmal ocean blue is more stunning with more water 😍

Agreed! I have started swatching my watercolors bigger (especially Roman Szmal) so that I can see the granulation and movement more accurately - they are just such an interesting brand of watercolors. Thanks for watching :)

I just bought the same colours for the NeocolorII plus some more browns and rust colours. I realized I basically ordered Autumn

Put the Roman Szmal in the freezer for 15 mins - you won't lose so much paint if you can't get them off the paper!

thinking of caran d'ache i love their items i have 30 neocolor 1 bought by mistake thought it was a neocolor 2 set but i've been liking the water resistant -ness lol i also have around 80 neocolor 2 i got the 40 set,gifted to me by my ex hubby, then i had the -0 set, and and ton of open stock it's more than i said now that i remember all i got , i'll have to count again , it's probably more than 100 that i have i'm not sure how many are in the rangej

Whoa! That sounds like a wonderful collection! I don’t have any of the Neocolor 1 but I think they would be cool to use for like wax resist techniques or just for adding texture.

Can I ask you why you put half espace of a full pan? Roman Smalls isn't seller in my country and all this brand is expensive here in Brasil I wish they are more accessible, I saw in a video that the super vision works better use out of tube.
@jannahlyon3 жыл бұрын
Yes, I am a bit of weirdo when it comes to filling my pans, I like having a lot of space for my brush in the pan so that is why i use full pans, and I only fill it up a little as I am not sure about my commitment to the color, or how it will act in a pan - I know this is just weird but I like to test it out a little first and then I will fill the pan up more if it is all working out :) I am also in the process of creating some limited color palettes and they sometimes use the same color so I will fill two pans so I dont have to swap out, so I ration that color out a little more :) Yes, I totally think that is correct for the Super Vision, they are very hard to work with once dry in pan, I think I may just have to use it straight from the tube, it performs much better this way - thanks for the advice!

You could also try adding a few drops of water and give it a few minutes before using them to paint. Fun video! Thanks!

A lot of CSY watercolors are irridescent/interference/metallic and don't look good on white paper. They package them with black business card sized swatch cards. I would try that one on black paper and see how it looks before your final judgment. I know that with interference and iridescent colors, when they don't show up on the paper right away the instinct is to add more and then you get the weird texture because they're crushed minerals and not finely milled pigments. Not that I'm defending CSY - I actually don't recommend their paints unless you want them for mixed media or to put over something dark.

Hmm, I just tried it on some black paper there is no iridescence or metallic characteristics unfortunately - I think I just got a fake or faulty pan :( Thanks for the tip anyway 💕

that handmade shell pink looks like its poorly made. The pigment rubbing off means it doesn't have enough binder. & It's so light so maybe a lot a of white/filler compared to the pink pigment. Also the way it looked hard to re wet it looks like it wasn't made with honey (watercolors made with honey are really easy to rewet) probably also not mulled properly or long enough.
@jannahlyon3 жыл бұрын
Yes, I totally agree with all your observations 🙂 I am a total newbie to paint making, but I have made a couple, and the binder ratio seems to be the key to holding it all together once it dries. This paint is just dusting off, there is nothing to keep it together. I am thinking it may have been a fake one, as others have enjoyed this brand in general. Thanks for you input 💕

@@jannahlyonyou're right on the binder ration being key. I agree that you probably got a fake one. If you're still interested in a shell pink Holbein's is lovely. Mijello is a bit cheaper. shinhan aswell but is made with pr9 a fugitive pigment.

I contacted the AliExpress seller and explained how it was performing and they replied “Dear, there is nothing wrong with the quality” such a hilarious reply to me saying it did not seem right 🤣 Soooooo, maybe it was a fake? I don’t want to write off the whole brand, thinking I might have gotten a bad one. I have seen some good reviews for it whilst looking on Amazon.

@@jannahlyon ha so maybe just a bad egg then. Because I typically live handmade paints over factory made
@scoiataeli3 жыл бұрын
I actually purchased that Aliexpress handmade paints - they need longer to activate. Just drop some water on the top of it and leave it be for a while. The pinks are more subtle, but shimmery. Performed well on Canson XL and Fabriano 25% cotton. I think the shimmers give them the “sandy” texture mentioned in the video.
@jannahlyon3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I think I may have just received a bad one. It was just like wet sand, I let it activate for a while but it was just painting with mud that would not dissolve. There is no shimmer to it, just matte dusty pink.
