@@lexcelius6921 Depends on the person, I think. But even as someone who loves doing art I would say, regardless if you treat it as a "job" or not, it should always have a certain level of professionalism, when you're doing something for clients. For some people it is simply easier, if they treat their creative process as "work". Like where they have an office, a work environment and so on. And where they keep work for their clients sepperate from their own home-life. It also makes it much easier to track work-hours, calculating expenses and so on. Keeping a realistic view on how much workload you can manage over a day, week or months. I know that often worked pretty well for me when I used to do graphic design. I kinda was more cative and productive when I had a seperate location where I could only focus on the "work". Everyone is different I guess.

@@kutaoizumi4189 maybe, just maybe he likes the end product but not the process? People love books, movies, stories, but lots of people find it boring, hard or annoying to even start at it, but i bet you everyone would love their ideas "coming to life", especially when you don't have to deal with an artist by comission (like i had in the past, never a good experience) who maybe doesn't fully grasp the idea you're going for and they'll get annoyed at you not being to properly explain and will cuss at you and do a piss poor job, then ignore you and still keep whatever you paid them. So AI art frees you from those, especially if you were to have an AI made by training on stock images and then on your own drawing to learn the mathematics of your drawings and replicate them. I'm sorry but AI art is no different from people making money off of covers, dance covers, etc. But i don't see such a big drama over them, this is all just "anti ai panic", just like people hated on vocaloid for it being a synthethized voice singing for people who haven't gone through voice training or don't like their own voice.

It's good for that... To a point. I mean, I used it out of curiosity but imo the silhoettes generated aren't up to par. Very "samey". I reckon it's because of the pattern recognition algorithms. You can't get anything unique, but you CAN get an amalgamation that falls in line with the most common poses/features from the AI's scraped image list. It gets pretty boring pretty fast if you're actually looking to be inspired, and that's not even going over all the weird anatomy stuff.
@ThatBugBehindYou
@ThatBugBehindYou Жыл бұрын
Even then better ways to learn art exist, there are programs that are free that give you basic models that will give you a good shape and lighting to work with instead. That way you have to pose the model and you see yourself how you're moving the body to get the pose you wanted, you're setting up lighting and learning how lighting has to be set up to get what you want, and you have a much more open and non specific reference to work off of. These programs are also easy on your computer's resources in most cases and, while paid, there are options to use on your phone if you can only use that. AI art really only gives you an advantage in trying to get ideas for landscape art but even then it's much better to just go through professional photography of landscapes or go out to parks and see/take pics of nature yourself to set up what you want.

As an older and more experienced artist, I encourage all younger artists to not give up on learning. AI art is a fad. It's content creation for egotists who don't enjoy drawing. If you genuienly love drawing, then draw, AI be damned. Let nothing get between you and your passions, in the end, that passion and love for art that you have, for the creative process, will shine through, and that will open more doors for you than you may have otherwise thought. AI is a neat little machine for making pretty pictures, but what AI is not, and will never be, is creative. And something non-creatives will never understand, is how developing your creative expression by painting, drawing, writing, etc.. actually builds that creative muscle, and fosters a much more vivid imagination. It's the sole reason why AI can never replace human artists. The process of learning art, makes you a better creative individual.

Even if it's easier to unsheathe, would the sword itself be able to withstand using that counter on various weapons, assuming that countering certain strikes would even be appropriate. I think the point Shad is trying to make is that in a lot of situations, across a wide range of martial arts, a crossguard will be really useful for blocking a strike. Would it necessarily be better than countering? I don't know, that's a debate to had. My immediate thought back when AI-art started getting popular was "what a cool thing it is for tabletop RPG enjoyers"! I always thought of it just as a tool to add some flare to homebrew stuff and be it in somewhat consistent style. Then there are video game mods that replace character portrais (if not all textures) with AI-recreated ones at higher resolution so it's easier on our modern eyes. That's how I got better at writing, I had an idea that was more or less nonsense just a Pokemon Trainer and his starter visiting different worlds and the like. Then over time it got a little more focused like keeping the characters in the wrold that they belonged to and then slowly learning how to make characters "characters" rather than archtypes and then learning how to make the character dialogue better. I haven't put out anything official, but I improved massively with my writing because I just had a dumb passion about what I wanted my characters to do and what the kind of stories I wanted to see.

I just wanted something I could use for my silly little nerd game with my friend because hiring one or more artists to do the same thing would be insane and prohibitively expensive.

Well said! The other day I went down the AI defense rabbit-hole, I wanted to try and understand, maybe I was being unfair, maybe I was missing something? After all I've been an artist all my life, I can't even remember a time before. SPOILER ALERT: To absolutely nobody's surprise, I wasn't mistaken or unfair. There is a deep seeded hate for artist in these communities, doesn't matter what your field of art is, Drawing, Voice Acting, Writing, they hate the artist but love the product. As someone who did commission work years ago, and quit because of how disgusting people are, all I can say is, "the more things change the, more they stay the same." Themes of entitlement, of artists doing this to themselves because they... wanted to get paid for their time. How all these people somehow had the next "big great amazing idea", and if only they could draw, they'd be able to bring it to life, but they can't, and it's those gatekeeping artist who refuse to work for free, or exposure, or pro bono, that are stomping on their dreams! Of course, with what they've created via AI and what Shad created, with no limitations other than his own mind we see the lie to that. Still, they believe they'll be the meek that inherits "art"; from the "big bad mean talented people who won’t do things for free." Classic definition of useful idiot. What will happen is the Corps will steal portfolios and have someone they can't fire do the job of an entire art team. They don’t understand that AI doesn’t have to be better, it just has to be cheaper and scale. They don’t realize how competitive art is, that for every exceptionally skilled artist that gets a job or makes it, 1000 more just as skilled don’t, for one reason or another. They don’t care that this will kill the commission market, why commission art when it’s socially acceptable to use AI art? In fact, why commission art when many of these models can just make you art in the style of any artist you want? These people will gladly sprint to the entropy of art of creation, of originality, of authenticity which is already so rare. But of course, they don’t care, just as long as they feel good in the moment. It doesn’t matter who they steal from, who’s bodily autonomy they violate… Then again should I be surprised? Look at the subject of your video, given his book is it really any shock that consent is a foreign concept?

I work in IT and can absolutely confirm this is the case. People singing praises of AI art basically have only two arguments, "it's cheaper than paying the artist!" and "you don't need to bother with an artist who's being a pain." I once asked a very pro-AI coworker if he realizes that he's basically cheering a slow death to culture (how is AI going to innovate in art? how is it going to create new styles or movements? it's not, without new human input it will just recycle the same garbage forever), and his response was basically "well yes that's all true, but that's the future anyway so what, at least it's convenient." There's something deeply dystopian about all this IMO.

When it was Van Gogh, he was bullied by a kid with a gun into insanity. When it was Michelangelo, it was unreasonable patrons. Like people who drawn digital since 90s, they were shamed for "using a tool", but look at them now. Consider it a rite of passage, not a one done challenge. My drawing is bad but I still put it up for KZbin Timelapse. Shad has proven himself to be *extremely* petty, egotistical, and insecure in the last couple of years. The man had a multi-hour response to a video that featured him for a grand total of like 3 minutes, and he claimed it was all lies and misrepresentations when all the video did was *accurately sum up Shad's own stated views.* Like, the video wasn't *supportive* of those views, but it portrayed them accurately and Shad ended up confirming that multiple times during said response. It's genuinely pathetic.

For those that don’t know, Jazza recently unlisted some of his AI videos. Now, Jazza has been dabbling with AI art for many years. He’s basically been on top of every development and most of his videos are still out. He for the most part treats ai as a game or a challenge. Or just dicking around, like when he made ai recreate his avatar over and over like telephone until it became an anime princess. For more recent videos he’s promoted AI as a tool to help artists improve, but with the unlisting of these newer videos it’s likely that he’s changing his mind on it. Jazza tries to be an “Everyone can draw!” Kind of person so it’s not surprising that he was open to it. However, it seems like AI (or Shad) has pushed his limits.

Earlier this month, I removed half my art catalog off Newgrounds, all the while I am typing away at a draft for NaNoWriMo on one screen, drawing comics pages in the double digits to hit deadlines throughout December on the other. I ask sometimes in the back of my head why I did the removal, and yet continue to produce. It's missed in the larger conversation when talking of humility in the field that doing art is irrational to time, unless it's placed in the context of labor, and by seeing it as work, it radically shifts in tone from being seen as a hobby or past time to hint at a possible framework or philosophy at play. This excitement alone can for some add more context to the output, and enjoyment, since it builds onto a narrative. I don't see Shad's narrative as an artist. It'd seem he's of the ilk that uses means to maintain and develop his status for no end but the status. This isn't growth mindset, and it takes resilience and dicipline, not just passion or love for the craft, to hold out through the mundanity of toil, isolation and the weigth of risk involved by striving to become. Yes, there's always the hope of making the process less cumbersome and taxing, though making that desire invites a monkey's paw of convenience onto one's shoulder. With AI, this dialog of humility I think has to be reexamined. The cost and sacrifices are in an upset with this leap of tech introduced to the process, and it ought to be rightfully pointed out these newfound possibilities and the potentials in these tools can and are being mismanaged by bad actors that look at it as cost-cutting, time efficient, and quantity + profit increasing avenues, while also be proponents of for an ethical, regulated use of the application and usage of AI. It's just not there yet conversation wise, and it will take over a decade and more to have it trickle into effect either by policy, norms and customs, curation, gatekeeping, appropriation, reconfiguration and programming, all the while at the present endure the immedate consequences of this Wild West era compounds onto the current issues faced with the internet, and media in general (IP and Copyright especially) Artists who choose to go through this crazy ritual are rightfully voicing not simply by concern, threat, or fear. They're contributing to the incriment of pushing this to the fore, so that what is taken for granted and taken as given in the eEnvironment and media ecology can wake up and realize that the hand, is coming for them. The short sightedness of automating this process, that relies so much on human intuition and experience that people are so willing to take up the crafts and acting as conduits by creating new expressions and works, will see its impact on the landscape, do doubt. But, take solace in that what a machine is not able to do (yet), is to make an independent, conscious decision as to draw a crude doodle that has more soul and proofs packed in to it, flaws and all. It ought not to be deluted to be solely in the present, but view in hindsight of all the filters, good and bad, we have had throughout our history in wheating out tons of forgotten doodles to masterpieces, to let a significant small portion all the way until today stand. AI generated works will still have to answer to this discrimination, too. We're only now discussing how to create those distinctions and rules that forms the basis for the future generations way of processing and decision-making of what is and isn't worth carrying forward. Creativity is a puzzle, not a prompt. Art is imagination, not image processing. Humanity is to strive onward, not a final rendition.

On a weekly podcast, which Shad is also on nowadays, Friday Night Tights. They had a discussion on the subject with a special guest, Danika(comicbookgirl19), among with others on the panel they briefly talked about Shad's bad AI takes, in their introduction. And no one agreed with Shad, they even pointed out the first ai image made looked better than the newer ones. And Danika on the subject made a very good citation from Frank Herbert's Dune, “Once men turned their thinking over to machines in the hope that this would set them free. But that only permitted other men with machines to enslave them.” Followed by some other members making a funny jokes, completely shitting on Shad's bad AI takes. He certainly got humbled there but even then I fear his ego won't let him see reason on the AI subject, which is sad because he's made lots of interesting projects in 3d programs and ideas over the years, him going so far into AI generation, just seems pure lunacy. Maybe its inferiority complex against his own brother? Your point against Nerdrotic's post went bit far off base, and not what he stands for. Of course, as you admitted, no real knowledge of the person, assumed he's for AI theft but he's not. He openly shits on AI writing and generations, also points at how hollywood writers likely use ai writing to make the generic crap they do. He's an old comic book shop owner turned culture podcast and video creator, on many topics. His points against George is more on the point that GRRM is probably unlikely to ever finish the books, because season 8 of GoT was the outlier of the actual ending, but its horrible reception threw so hard a wrench in his books that he's stuck. Also that George is his own worst nightmare, when it comes to completing writing books, unless they are small vanity projects. Not to forget, he's a big book fan of both George and Tolkien, and can be seen how he lambasts Amazon for how they destroyed Tolkien's works in their show. In comparison him loving House of the Dragon season 1, even with some of the dumb changes.

I will bring it up here: if you don't care about owning anything, AI is fine. Have a D&D character you want a quick piece of art for? Sure. No one cares about that. But if you're publishing a book cover? And you use AI? You don't own that art and you're posting it publicly. If your book got big, then you will have opened yourself up for massive lawsuits in the future, because you have no legal rights to that art. It's already the law. You cannot copyright AI art. You can only copyright what you yourself do. And if you post something with no idea where it came from, be prepared to get sued, because "it looks different" isn't actually a defense and doesn't matter. There are four things you generally have to show, and AI arguably fails to meet all four. So I'll continue appreciating my artists and doing my own work and stand back and watch other people throw themselves into legal nightmares. You can't convince people not to bury themselves when they think they see an easy button.
@lennysmileyface
@lennysmileyface Жыл бұрын
If you can't copyright it no one would be able to sue you for it. The only way it would look the same as something else is if you give it a reference of an already existing image. I think the only way you're going to get sued is if they make it illegal to sell images that are generated from a dataset that has copyrighted images. I use some of these generative AIs but I use them for ideas and concept art, I also gave the images to an artist as references for one particular design.
@SugarThyme
@SugarThyme Жыл бұрын
@@lennysmileyface "If you can't copyright it no one would be able to sue you for it." I think there may be a slight misunderstanding on this part. "You" (general you), making AI art, would not be able to copyright it. The people who originally made the art are the ones that have the rights to it. Because the AI is a machine and generates by essentially copying and pasting, it would be similar to copying and pasting off of Wikipedia and trying to claim you wrote that. Even if you changed the order of things around and such, it wouldn't matter if it looks different, you still wouldn't have the rights and you could still get sued. If you use an AI art generator where all the artists have given permissions and such, this isn't a problem. But the ones I know of are stealing art, which means people using them would be vulnerable to being sued. Now, I don't think that's likely in your case, which is what most people will probably do. And I doubt anyone cares if someone generates an AI piece for personal use or anything like that. But if you're like some of these people and trying to sell art claiming it as your own, you could definitely get in trouble if caught. The main reason it isn't happening more is because it's hard to trace. Individual artists would have to find a random person elsewhere on the internet using pieces of their art. And then that individual artist would have to have the means/will to sue, etc. Most cases would be beyond what the average person would want to deal with even if they're in the right. And, even if they're in the right (which they are legally), there's no saying the judge presiding over the case would understand what it was about. It's always a risk. However, let's say you published a book and sold millions of copies, and it turns out your cover is AI-generated. The artist of that art would be able to go after you for using it without permission because they have the rights to it and you don't. People hoping to "make if big" by relying on AI to copy and paste pieces of art together for them are putting themselves at great risk if they DO somehow make it big. Sort of in the same line as tracing. For example, imagine if Shad was using the art generators to make Disney-like characters to sell. Now that a big company is in the mix, would he get away with it or would he be sued into oblivion for using their art?

@@SugarThyme It's more complicated than just copy pasting pieces of an image. So trying to find a pattern of pixels that matches any single image is impossible as far as I know. In the training it is given the image with varying degrees of noise applied to it. Then through trial and error it tries to reverse it. In the end the result is compared to the original image to see how close of a guess it got. That is why if you ask the AI to make the Mona Lisa it's not going to give you a 1-to-1 replica since it's just an approximation built from the algorithm for denoising images that it developed during training. If Shad was making original characters in the style of Disney unless they make using generators with copyrighted images in the training set a form of copyright infringement Disney can't do anything. Unfortunately the law has not moved fast enough to even decide what side to settle on but we will see what happens Disney also does not own their style, you can't copyright a style for good reason. I personally would be fine if AI art was automatically regarded as public domain that anyone can use and no one has copyright to. I already treat it as such anyway. I still wouldn't wholesale sell it within a product myself. Calling it your own art is the height of cringe though. It's definitely a grey area at the moment but the technology is very important inherently however I say that within a research capacity and not a commercial one.

I've been an artist for my entire life. In my oldest memories from early childhood I had a pencil and paper in my hands. I was the kid who had doodles on all his school work and often spent recess drawing. I've filled stacks of sketchbooks and reams of loose paper over the years. And I can't tell you how many times I've hated my own work. Sometimes doing art sucks. Sometimes you spend hours working on a piece, pouring your heart and soul into it, imagining how amazing it'll look when its done. And then it sucks. It doesn't look the way you intended. Even if it's not actually that bad the only thing you can see is the flaws. And it just makes you feel so intensely irritated and inept. And if you're as stubborn as I was as a kid, then you refuse to take advise that might help you improve. You don't want to do the boring things like learn anatomy or perspective. You just want to get to the fun part and can't see how learning the fundamental building blocks can help make art even more satisfying. It kinda feels like that's where Shad and some other AI users are stuck. They're stubborn just like I used to be and can't see how learning the fundamentals can give them a deeper understanding of how and why art works. They don't see all of the little creative decisions that artists make. And they don't understand how those decisions affect the way that a work of art feels. Shad doesn't seem to understand where his own art is lacking. He's conflated self improvement with using a machine that takes his initial sketch and slaps on a coat of someone else's paint. That machine might add detail, lighting, shadow, and texture without him having to learn those techniques himself. But it can't cover up the fact that his initial sketch displays a lack of understanding of the basics. To those who know what they're looking for, the AI layer only makes the flaws more obvious. But Shad and other AI users only seem to see the details in the coat of paint. They can't see the forest for the trees.

Watching this video, it reminds me of the movie The Dark Knight where Harvey Dent says “you either die a hero, or you live long enough to see yourself become the villain”. I have watched Shad off and on for a bit, but never was a frequent subscriber of his, and it’s sad that he feels this way. Oh well it will just be another channel I won’t tune into anymore. He literaly took a passion that his brother loves, that he worked long and hard for to achieve and took some algorithm and craped all over it by saying, look at this the machine did with a little bit of me in photoshop I am just as good as you are! The worst thing a brother could do to be honest. If that was my brother doing it to me I would have clearly and honestly told them that this requires no skill what so ever. bit late but you made an outstanding point at 29:00 about how the culture wars people always bitch and moan about mainstream stuff but never use their platforms to bring awareness to great indie projects, indie films, indie comics, lesser known writers, or unique books. Robert Kirkman is worth close to 100 million dollars, all because 1 day, Todd Macfarlane got fed up with mainstream comics, and launched image comics, leading to the publication of so many fantastic titles that went mainstream because these stories were finally being platformed instead of being rejected by places like DC and Marvel. We got The Walking Dead, Invincible, Spawn all of which became mainstream. I don't know why these supposed "culture critics" don't spend their time scouring through the literal millions of creations people put on the internet every day to try and elevate them? well obviously that doesn't bring in the kinda money that being a grifter does. Even Scott Macfarlane said he'd have made more money working for DC and Marvel than he has running image comics, but he still felt like it was the right thing to do

I tried out AI in a few areas out of curiosity, for example for world building. And it's quite a pain because you have something like a parrot as an assistant. AI music also produces pretty generic stuff, especially the instruments come out of a can. So I think the only thing that's changing now is that there's a supermarket for art, but those who still want the high-quality version will still go to the delicatessen.

I'm currently learning some Mark Knopfler guitar licks, it's taking me a few hours to get them into my fingers. If someone who's never played guitar picked up a midi-player and played the same thing after 10 minutes I'd never be impressed. I've played guitar for 11 years, and that is why I now am able to learn the licks in a few hours instead of a week or month. It's completely delusional to put the midi and guitar on the same level. This is how I view AI "art", it is at the same level to a programmed midi file, it can be detailed and sound decent, but it fails to capture the artistic expression that comes from knowing an instrument and how to play to the music, the feel and the love that lies hidden within.

Have you ever seen them celebrate any kind of independent project that gets recognized? Like Helluva boss (maybe there's too many LGBT themes for them to like it tbf) or Lackadaisy? 33:04 - "So correct me if I'm wrong..." Okay. You're wrong. Gary has been a LONG standing critic at George RRRRRRRRRR Martin's work ethic in actually sitting down and finishing the Game of Thrones (or whatever it is called - Songs of Ice and Fire? ) book serious that, because of the HBO series, have made him rather famous and successful. Gary argues that since George has actually managed to finish other books in this period then he clearly has the time to write, just no interest in writing/finishing GOT. This is where Gary is coming from. It is not an AI comment, but more a dig at George to suggest that if you actually FINISHED THE NOVEL YOURSELF then maybe fans wouldn't attempt to finish it for you. That is Gary's beef. Personally Gary is my spirit animal but I disagree with him on this issue. (also I have met George RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR Martin twice and respect the fact that George is successful enough to live the geek life and hang out constantly at conventions). There is debate here on the ethics and responsibilities of the 'contract' between the person who writes and their audience. Gary will argue that there is an obligation for the write to finish a series because he/she owes it to their fans. I, personally, will argue that the author has no binding obligation to the fans. To the publishers? Maybe. To the fans? No. George RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR Martin has clearly gotten to the stage where he doesn't need to write to put bread on his table anymore. So if the 'spark' has gone then... should he be forced to keep writing? Sure closure in a novel series can be VERY important to some people. It actually shows that you have been good enough to get your readers completely engaged. But... if your hearts not in it should you still write it. What do people want? A novel where the author just goes through every character in turn, have them meet up with their childhood crush, get married and buy a small farm in the country a brisk walk away from their once mortal enemy because forgiving and forgetting is the way forward, right? Open question. So yeah, this isn't Gary passing comment on AI, this is Gary calling George a lazy prick. He does this a lot.

I use AI a lot. I post fanfic and like to get an image to go with each one. It can be time consuming because I know exactly what I want, I just can't do it myself, so it's not as easy as it sounds in that respect. I decided to make a theme tune to go with it once and that took hours of work and mixing even with AI. It's easy if you're not looking to create a very specific thing you have in your head but otherwise it's a bit like a really difficult sudoku puzzle, fun, rewarding but time consuming. I'm biased because I couldn't do what I do without it. That being said I always tell people I used AI, I don't claim to be an artist and were I an actual paid artist I definitely would not use it.

What strikes me as astonishing is the degree to which Shad overrates all of his work. In reality I have friends who are amateur hobbyist artists who have hand drawn extremely realistic portraits that are more impressive to look at than his work. I just ran across you, because I've watched Shadiversity before. I like his historical stuff about HEMA and castles. Who is the adorable puppers, playing with the red ball? I've been fiddling with a graphic novel on my bad days (takes my mind off of the pain) and the thought of AI art scraping years of labor is disheartening. I did learn to draw by looking at other people's art, and imitating their styles. The difference, I think is I consumed the art in a traditional manner (I bought the comics, or read the art books). Mostly, I learned from practicing, figuring out the motions my hands need to make and pressures/opacities for line weighting, finding ways to make lighting work with my particular shading, and the uses of the different tools. Now, I don't try to imitate people, I just try to make things look like the things that they're supposed to look like. And, after that lovely sentence... For book reviews, what genres do you review? I have a (admittedly extremely overwritten and error-filled) dark fantasy 1st novel. It's like 25 years ago and was written without a lot of the editing options we have now. Don't review that one. I reeeeeeally wanna rewrite it, but it's like digital art. Sometimes you have to say "it's finished," and move on. I also have a sci-fi novel (kind of a love story, but more about rediscovering humanity in the darkness of war) called Angel in the Black. I did the cover art and actually had an editor, so it's immediately better than the first one. You said you review the first chapter, but this novel is written in first person from the viewpoints of two people (they have their own chapters and personalities so the switches are pretty obvious). To get the first impression of both characters, you'd have to do the first two chapters. Is the one chapter rule, molded in steel, or a bit bendy? I guess more importantly, would you even be interested in a sci-fi war novel that takes place on one really awful moon, and in an equally (if not more) awful dark room on a ship? Also, I still love the puppers (don't let this admission sway your judgement).

What you said about conservatives mocking a formal training in the visual arts hits home for me. I was incredibly surprised to find out how many of my fellow so-called "conservatives" suddenly turn into modernist utilitarians when it comes to the arts. If you're not a coal miner or a doughnut jockey in an office building your job isn't real and you don't deserve to be paid for it. They'll share a picture of a romanticist painting online with some milquetoast statement along the lines of "why don't we make art like this anymore?? :((((" Without realizing that 99% of the people who could paint like that back then were formally trained at an art academy. They think it should be some hobby. I've unironically heard people say that artists shouldn't get paid for their work. I should just get home from my busy day at the coal mine and paint as a hobby. It's this attitude which has fostered the craze with "AI Art." (It's not art) They see no value in art beyond its potential financial benefit. If it isn't bolstering the gdp then they think it's useless. The same type of person that thinks firefighters and emt's should get paid less.

Unfortunately, that's a big part of how fiscal conservatism as an ideology works; if stuff isn't wildly profitable, then it's not justified, except as a hobby that you shouldn't expect others to "subsidize"/pay for. In this ideology there's no excuse for not "earning" money by doing something (anything) profitable, even if it's unethical. The ends (the profits), and only the ends, justify the means. You're right that this is in apparent contradiction with how many of them favor an aesthetic, traditional, "socially-conservative" view of art, though. It also seems to contradict the capitalist idea that market incentives should be used to change behavior (for example, if you want people to make more aesthetically pleasing, traditional, representational art... Then you should pay them to make it). Tbh this is just one of many self-contradictory aspects of modern conservatism (which was always going to be a little self-contradictory, because it's a broad movement made up of different people who don't always agree with each other - but even given that, it's become very internally inconsistent and hypocritical, IMHO).

(FWIW, personally, this is a big part of why I support leftist or socially and economically progressive policies. (I want to live in a society where people have a financial cushion to fall back on when they take financial risks like switching careers, starting their own business, going back to school, becoming full-time artists, etc. (I also think the ability of individuals and entities who accumulate massive amounts of wealth to influence our judicial and political systems, and exploit vulnerable people in society, is an existential threat to both democracy and the environment.) Politics is often treated like sports (you root for whatever team your family or town, school, church, etc. roots for, regardless of who's on the team or how they play the game), but it shouldn't be. I see my politics as an extension or result of my personal values and ethics. They're also a result of the material conditions I live under. I'm chronically ill and neurodivergent; it's hard for me to be productive on the level capitalism tends to demand from workers, and employers are less incentivized to hire me versus an abled, neurotypical employee who doesn't require additional resources to accommodate on the job. I would like to live in a society where the excess resources our society produces via industrialization (which currently often get thrown out or wasted), are distributed so that everyone has enough to survive (I don't personally mind income inequality when everyone has at least enough to not die). Instead of our government subsidizing major corporations and the wealthiest people in society through stuff like tax breaks, those subsidizing programs and the wealth they affect should be used for infrastructure, or other programs that will directly benefit most people in their daily lives. As opposed to our current system, in which a few people have more resources than they or their families will ever use or need for survival... while many people live only a few paychecks away from homelessness, and some people die from lack of food or housing (while empty buildings sit unused), or from treatable diseases whose medicine is price-gauged way beyond the cost of production.

he encountered a point he didn't think he could argue, and suddenly it was "how many kids you have" "oh yeah, you're a professional artist attacking a father of five" like congrats dude, you successfully orgasmed inside a fertile woman five times and you obviously love them very much if you're willing to use them as shields against criticism. then they continued saying "bad faith argument" over and over as if repeating it would make it true.

Something that stood out to me since last year is that shad hearts comments that are very supportive of him. But rarely (if ever) interacts with negative or critical comments. Even if they are in good faith. His book response video has a ton of hearts for the people saying how much they loved it, but comments trying to talk about problems with his response or his book is going ignored. His ai video, has very little hearted comments. Most of the comments are very critical of him. I think his little echo chamber was breached, and he’s not very happy about it. I say this because I used to love his content in my early college years. Around 2016 was when I started. He seemed polite and understanding towards criticism back then. Even making a couple of videos explaining that he got a few things wrong. What happened to you shad?
