In this video I'll be showing you some pages in my new art journal. The main theme is painting intuitively, as this becomes more and more the way I am working. Just see what comes up and work this out, rather than working with reference images, is something I love to do!
Please share your answer to the hidden question in the video. I'm curious to know your ideas. If you have any idea for a title for this journal, please let me know too!
An accidental cat and a pur pattern
On the first pages that I show you, I started with a blue background with acrylic page, but working on several pages at the same time and my messy style, caused a torn, damaged page as some pages were clinging together. It also caused the nice textural print of the burlap. But, what to do with the broken paper on this page? I firstly wanted ot overlap it with blue again until I saw a cat in the white shape. I painted it over with a light tone of acrylic paint. I added some older gelli prints and was working out some new patterns with Neopastels which are great. The little text on the left page is about silence... and that you can still hear the purring of a cat. I added a prrtern on the right page! :)
Patterns, patterns, patterns
I can't get enough of patterns and love to mix various patterns at the same spread. In this second spread I work on a couple of patterns, including the piece of patterned fabric. When you turn the page, you see the colours are slightly changing from blue and cream to blue and more greenish tones. It's a kind of prelude to the next spread...
Mini collages
I created this project during the retreat I held in Juni, in France, but had not enough space to glue it in the small book I only had with me that week. I kept it to put in this book. Once home, I lost two little collages, so I couldn't finish my project until Anthony found them in the camper behind a chair.
This is one of the best things to do in an art journal... You don't even need an art journal. Just cut some pieces of paper in the same size, collect some pieces of paper, fabrics and/or dried flowers and create your mini collages!
What do you see in the background
Now we're home, the lessons of my weekly art journaling group have begun! It is one of the highlights of my week. The first assignment was to create a background (with acrylic paint and a roller or ink brayer) and see something in it. For some students, things popped up naturally, for some this was a challenge. It's something you can develop, when staring at the sky and seeing something in clouds, look at trees and their bark, look at a piece of wood. What do you see?
We helped each other by telling what we saw in each other's pages,. It didn't mean you had to use the suggestions, but just for ideas to finish a page it was very helpful and funny what came out.
First page
Finally, I show you the first page of this new book, that has no theme and name yet. I would love to hear if you have ideas and I am curious to hear your answer to the hidden question in the video.
