I think doing some research on ethical, accredited zoos might help you feel better about them! The Living Desert, as an example, is a non-profit zoo that is taking part in over 80 different conservation initiatives throughout the world as well as taking part in programs surrounding teaching 3rd world countries about sustainable fishing (which benefits the people with a reliable food source going forward as well as benefits species that could potentially be suffering from things like habitat destruction or overfishing!) and anti-poaching programs! While not every animal in a zoo is there because their species is endangered, they are ALL there to help draw people in and get them interested in wildlife and conservation. The well known animals, such as Plains Zebra, are not endangered, but people love them and by getting people to go to the zoo to see the zebras they already love, they can be exposed to other animals in desperate need of help that maybe they didnt even know existed before! Its also worth noting that very, very, VERY rarely are these animals brought to zoos from the wild. These are captive bred animals who were literally born to be ambassadors for their species and for wildlife in general. They were not ripped from their parents or herds in the wild to be put on display. Meanwhile, zoos across the world have reintroduced countless animals to the wild and prevented so many more from ever going extinct in the wild to begin with. Good zoos are a safe haven not just for the animals in their care but for the literal existence of countless species throughout the world. They need and deserve every ounce of support we can give them.

@@meraukelele Very well said. Good zoos do just this with their animal ambassador. Without zoos most people would never see most of the animals in the world. Appreciation for those animals means so much more to see a real creature in person than an image or video clip. In the past they usually had only illustrations for reference and many folks didn’t believe an animal like an elephant for instance was real, until they saw one. This was first done with circuses and such shows. Then with zoos in more areas. Zoos are one of the reasons why we still have pandas. 🐼 Some zoos do rehabilitation for wildlife as well, as do some aquariums. I have been watching Cincinnati Zoo since Fiona the hippo was born. I think they have a few times, but they also provide support and in general advertising, sometimes raise funds for endangered animals as well as the rangers and others in conservation districts protecting and caring for endangered species. It also helps raise awareness.

Baylee, isn’t your light for your nail polish a UV light? I would talk to your dermatologist about that for certain. I’ve heard from mine and others about tanning beds and nail lights. UV lights like that increase risks of skin cancer and they also just age the skin that much quicker. From Cleveland Clinic: “Ultraviolet rays penetrate the skin deeply. They damage collagen, the basic building block of our skin, and elastin, which helps to keep us looking younger.” And risk increases the more you do your nails using a light. I hope you heal quickly and that it is a benign spot. I’ve had biopsies before, they take some time to heal. Skin cycle I think is 28 days.

When I went to America, it was a guided tour so there were a few of us from all over the UK. We went to different places everyday all over the deep south. One lady had a small sketchbook and while we were traveling to our next destination she did a very quick sketch of where we went, even to chick fil a. It was a great idea. She also taught me I could record my journey on google maps. Never finished the last quarter but I still remember everything like it happened yesterday even though its been 4 years.

the art journal segment is so pretty! i love the zoo one. i know you draw animals often, but it's nice to see you branching out other than bunnies and cats! i really love the almost more realistic style to them. i think it'll be a good change of pace for you, like you said. you get to branch out and not worry about being burdened with it being a store art piece.

I bullet journal sometimes and I love the tombow mono tape dispensers. They are easy to refill and very sticky. I get mine on amazon! I've never had issues with stuff falling out of my journal. And also I'm so glad you enjoyed the zoo! I live pretty close to that zoo and we love going there. Feedinf the giraffes and watching the mini trains are all so fun!

13:03 I feel your pain, smashed my fingers closing a window about a day ago, I was writhing in pain and it spread all through my hand too. It hurt so bad, my other hand started getting mild sympathy pain?😂 you’d be surprised how many more nerve endings we have in some parts of our bodies than others. I didn’t feel pain with a biopsy in my armpit, but I regretted rejecting the good pain meds for one inside my lip😅

Hey Bailey, these spreads are amazing! I've been following you for years now and I always wondered why you didn't art journal, I thought it was something you'd really like! I've journaling since I was a little girl, (with gaps of years when I didn't) and about 6, 7 years ago I discovered art journaling and junk journaling (which is more about re-using 'junk' and a combo between art journaling, scrapbooking and creative journaling). I love it so much that I started to make my own journals first and now I even sell them. It's addicting, especially finding things to use in your journals, so be aware of that! 😂 I'm excited to see more of your art journaling journey, have fun with it!

I once had a biopsy on my foot for the same thing. Walking was so uncomfortable for a while (after the first few hours I decided to stay home until it was healed 😅). I can imagine it feels soo much worse on your thumb... especially of your dominant hand. 🙈 I wish you a speedy recovery and that it turns out to be nothing. 🫶 Also, these spreads turned out really nice. I've never thought about art journaling - it seems like a lot of fun. I think I might implement something similar into my journaling.

If you’re dyeing the clothes, double check that the stitches aren’t polyester! I dyed a bunch of cellular blankets with my cousin (who wants only pastel baby blankets lol) and all the stitches remained white 😂😅 we didn’t care too much but clothing might be more obvious

I’m not big on zoos either, but there is a wildlife park in Cork Ireland I’ve been to many times. They have huge enclosures and enrichment for the animals. They also have loose roaming wallabies, kangaroos, ring tailed lemurs, and maras. It’s my favorite place 💗

I like both pages. You know you could go to that text block and surround it with a bolder border, either brown or green. Maybe make some palm fronds in the top left corner and maybe around the sides. Or palm fronds in the top left corner of the border and then brown like the tree bark around the frame. That would give more color to the area and highlight it more.

You’re probably going to want a tape runner for your pictures. Glue stick is ok for paper to paper, but SELPHY pictures aren’t really paper (they’re waterproof). I recently had a mole removed from the back of my neck and it turned out to be basal cell skin cancer😒. Now I get to see a dermatologist too. Hopefully yours were just regular moles🤞

i think an art journal should have a balance of both text and art, whatever feels right for the page. all pictures would be either a scrapbook or photo album, all text would be a normal journal, and all art would just be a sketchbook. also you could try keeping a small journal when you travel to help remember parts for your art journal later.
