You did such a great job! I remember those horrible Grumbacher tubes of acrylic paint in the '60s. The paint was wonderful when you could get the tubes open. All our tubes were covered in plier marks from using them to grip the tube while applying a second set to turn the cap.

As a kid who grew up in the 2000s, I feel like maybe 2000s Roseart crayons might have been waxier than Crayola. It made them really splotchy and hard to distribute easily, plus they seemed to smear. That was generally the issue I had with them. No clue if the quality got worse overtime, as I was born in the late 90s.
@Xanderful2092 ай бұрын
I think they might have started getting worse starting in the 2000s I remember my grandma buying us some rose art because they were cheaper than crayola and they were ok at most and when my younger cousins were starting to use crayons -around 2001-3 I used them and they were almost as bad as just using a wax stick. Quality for sure shifted but they were still pretty butt 🤣
@Sammyltv2 ай бұрын
I agree, that was the same experience that I had with Roseart crayons. The worse part was when I tried to mix or blend the colors together, the other color would pill or get picked up and the crayons overall were just very difficult and frustrating to use.
@Emery_Clayton2 ай бұрын
Yeah I feel like they got worse. I had some that were older and they worked just as good as the Crayola ones. But after that, they became so waxy that it just left spots on the paper and made it all splotchy and frustrating to use. Roseart should've just stuck with their original design and they would have never gotten the hate they have now. 😂
@jennifermiller1042Ай бұрын
The early ones were better. The ones I used weren't bad but the ones I bought for my kids were awful.

I just came across a tin full of liquitex speedball paint tubes from the 60s. I can't wait to see if any of them still work! They were used for painting fabric, often Pellon in the 60s. My mom saved everything.

Rae, I love how you dressed in the fashion for the era of the items you were showing us, that was a really nice touch. It's amazing how fashions have changed over the decades, by the way, you looked gorgeous in each fashion you wore, you really are a very beautiful girl hun. I also love it when you showcase and create art with old art items, it's never boring, no matter how many times you do it. Have a great.week!
@kimosterhout32422 ай бұрын
I ended up with a couple containers of free RoseArt pencils. I realized they weren’t the best quality, but I didn’t know people were still complaining about them 30 years later. I still use them on a regular basis and have done some neat drawings with them. I don’t use them if I want heavy pigmentation, but they work fine for basic stuff.

Lovely concept! But I have to say, as someone who was alive in the 1970s... that was *way* cooler than anything anyone wore in the 1970s! Or at least I don't remember leather sport coats...😆 I did do a string art project in high school in the 1980s, but since it wasn't from a kit, the nails were firmly anchored, so though my project was nothing great, it wasn't as frustrating as your experience. I think you should use your bonus prismacolors to re-do your 1960s art project. Though go for the late 1960s hippie look instead of the prim early sixties look this time. 😉

I'd say more like mid-1960's. The outfit reminded me of a photo of the Shangri-Las (of "Remember [walking in the sand]" and "Leader of the pack" fame) I saw in the Billboard Book of Number One Hits many years ago. That and an old illustration of Simplicity patterns from 1965 I saw at a classroom for machine-sewing lessons also long ago. Nonetheless, the period from 1964-69 is one of my favorite time periods when it comes to pop culture. Way to go! 👍👍👍👍👍👍 As for the art supplies, my hat off to you for being able to get them, your bravery for using them (I was worried about that chrome yellow crayon from 1907), and especially the artwork done with them ❤❤❤❤❤❤

So glad I’m not the only one to use vintage art supplies! I’ve just bought a tin of Caran D’ache pencils from the 70s, this is what I used as a small child in the 80s, (my mums set from the 60s). I love them, there’s even a silver and gold! I used to feel so special having metallic pencils, I was the envy of my school friends! The only downside is they’re skinny pencils and not as comfortable to hold, best part is they’re water colour too! £12 from eBay, set of 36. All the colours are incredible. Best bargain ever, new tins are close to £100. I’ve still got some Karisma colour pencils from early 90s from my college days. They’re the best colours pencils for laying down. A vintage set can cost from £85-200 If you want a new set you can get them from Japan for about £100 for 24 with postage.

Alright I’m calling shenanigans on rose art 😂 as a fellow 90s babe (93’) rose art is trash 😂😂😂 1. you did only actively use 3-4 crayons on the rabbit, so it’s possible the other colors had issues. 2. From my experience, every box wasn’t bad. I think the actual issue was consistency either in the way the make it or their materials, it’s like you couldn’t by the same brand twice - even though you were buying the same brand.
