Hi Dear Subscribers as I posted early today on Patreon I wanted to talk about other topics on my videos, since I have a lot of process video material I though this could be a great opportunity to cover themes that I don't talk much about, pick my brain a little on my views about art, life style, experiences, education and more.
On this first video we talk about motivation and the main mistakes we make as artist that block us from having a steady flow of motivation.
Let me know what you think and what are your views as well!

I've drawn my entire life, when I was 17 I determined it was the hobby I would concentrate on, i'm 35 now, I took a break for the longest time since I started ( I got an eye infection and couldn't see well enough to draw and then realized the world doesn't stop moving if I stop, friends don't care, social media doesn't care I had probably a good 10 month melt down gave it up and started playing Genshin Impact then started trickling back into it. - Discipline doesn't mean shit once your mid 30s roll around and you realize like me your art sucks and ppl let you just roll with it. - What I got is a gambling addiction but I believe that if I dump the time, its going to pay off the pay out is around the corner.---

The worst is when the motivation is not gone because of putting yourself down, but because of total apathy towards drawing.

...which is often the result of pressuring yourself. The thought of how frustrating a drawing can be lingers so strongly that you just can't be asked to try. At least that's what blocked me.

I’ve been experiencing a low for the last 3 months. Ever since I finished HS I’ve had and felt nothing. I feel burnt out (and I still do). Though, there are many factors that have lead to the burnout. I’m slowly (and I mean REALLY slow) creeping my way back to my old state, thru little sketches and the little practice. Though, when I want to ink and color some idea from a sketch, it falls apart completely. It’s a work in progress, without a doubt I’ll make it work. Personally I want this as a career, I find art as a part of me so this is a big hurdle I want to get over. This video really helped, great video! Nice to see that you’re back!

Man I had a low for 1-2 years now, just look at my channel, no uploads for 2 years. starting a new drawing is a huge task/burden for me now and I just spend my time doing nothing, browsing the internet and wasting my time. It's also really hard for me to do long drawing sessions now, all this combined led to me not drawing much at all, and I've only really drawn when I *had* to. I'll go and draw my character now, record it and upload it if it turns out nicely.

Try to go back to your roots. What there the first things you ever drew, did they have some form of topic? Find old drawings and do re-draws, that always somewhat motivates people because you can then clearly see the improvement you've done, even if the improvement was just subconsciously. Also, try to force yourself to actually finish a small drawing, even if it's just a head, finish it and force yourself not to delete any layers or to completely clear the layer, that often times gives you more of a feeling of drawing with traditional mediums, because there you also can't just 100% get rid of everything. If you notice that you always open tabs with various social media sites whenever you get slightly frustrated at the drawing, make sure that you either turn your internet off or that you block those sites temporarily, so that you procrastinate less. Also! Try to find artists that inspire you! Or try to find speedpaints that inspire you! Find anything that you think is really beautiful and try to put yourself in a mindset again, where you feel somewhat inspired! And the last thing I can tell you is to follow the easiest tutorials you can find. If you already get frustrated at drawing faces, go search up a face tutorial and follow every step. Doesn't matter if it's a video from REIQ, KNKL, Sycra, etc. try to get back into the swing of things! Try to think like you thought when you just started out, back then you most likely didn't care all the much that things looked perfect, you were amazed already that you drew anything at all! I honestly have no idea if that helps you but... just lowering the expectations, noticing when you get frustrated and when you close the art program, going back to your roots and comparing your skill to your beginning skill-level are all things that can help you to get drawing again! :D

Thank you, that was really inspirational and helped put things into perspective. I would love to do illustration for work but I just can't spend so many hours drawing just for practice, so I'm kind of doodling, sketching and doing smaller digital art projects as a hobby. There's a lot of other creative things I love to do so I just don't think I'm cut out for doing solely illustrations for work.

Man this video came at an appropriate time. I was attempting inktober this year and I was consistent all the way until the 23rd when I got hit with a major block and couldn’t finish my sketch. I was pretty disappointed, but Im still proud that I managed to sketch out 22 drawings this month alone which is nearly 3 times as much as I did last year. I still have time to work on more, but Im going to focus my time on digitally coloring what Ive made instead. Thanks for the great video!

It's nice to hear your take on that matter :) I've been drawing seriously for 12 years now and I have no plans to stop anytime soon, even though I've been experiencing some really bad lows recently. Some days stuff just doesn't come out the way I want but I no l longer feel stressed about it. I know it just happens and it'll eventually pass, so no big deal. Also, I've been a fan of your work since I started doing digital art, keep up the good stuff! :)

You mentioned drawing with friends can help keep your work more consistently enjoyable, but the sad thing is, I don’t have any friends! At least not any that draw. I’d love to do a google hangout or meet up in real life with people and just draw all day. Sounds like a dream. Any one have any advice on finding art communities or something? Like a sketch meet-up or an open drawing stream?

Precision is a skill... try doing a lot of ink drawings I mean strait up ink no pencil drawing to improve you accuracy. Doesn't have to be anything complex just something that needs accuracy like drawing perspective boxes or circles.

Dude, I feel soo bad dude I stopped drawing 3 months ago. I do not have time to get in the right mood to draw. If u know what I mean... I really like to improve and learn stuff. But I have to get in the right mood. But I am in a "social year" right now. I don't know what it is called in English. But it is like work. So I work in shifts. And I don't do nothing really important there. That is why I feel kind of wasting my time 8 h a day and I feel really shit about that. I would love to draw again and having fun. But it feels that everything is blocking me off. It is kind of sad. I have to get some holidays to come back or something. If the job would be fun, I don't think it would be a problem, but like I said. I waste my time there. Maybe some of ur tips will help me sooner or later. THANK U THO

Everyone keeps telling me to read drawing books but I can't seem to learn from them. I just don't know how to properly use them where it doesn't feel like I'm staring at words and not actually absorbing anything from them. I lose all motivation once I realize I can't learn from these books nor be able to improve myself even though I want to draw things I want to draw. I feel restricted when I shouldn't feel that way.
@RakugaX
@RakugaX 5 жыл бұрын
Drawing books are really great for enhancing your art and learning the fundamentals. But never feel restricted to learning just from the books alone. If you're a character artist/love drawing people, visit a life drawing class and try to do 30 sec - 5 min pose exercises, you can also do this with photos you collect as well. Or if you're environmental artist or someone who likes to draw nature and/or architecture, go outside draw your surroundings, or gather photos of landscapes or buildings to learn the structures. Basically what I'm saying is that there are many ways to learn how to draw, not just from the books your peers keep recommending. Don't get me wrong books are an excellent ally for your drawing journey, but they are not the end all be all.

Im 21 now and have really only been studying the actual fundamentals for the past 7 ish months, so Ik I still have a ways to go but this not just motivates me but also fuels my drive to become better one day. Its going to take alot but Im willing to give alot, idc how long it takes but Ik Ill be better than ever. Ill keep what you said close to me and not compare myself to others and will keep pushing to learn more and keep having fun regardless. Anyways sorry for the longwinded comment, your art just really fires me up to get to that point one day haha. (Also your Street Fighter drawings from recently are really cool☺️)

RukileinchenChan when I say it takes time is that you have to put the time and study smart dedicate to the craft, it will take really long if you stay in your comfort zone and don’t put the time. People can improve really fast or really slow

Well, do you want to get good or do you want to get in the industry? Cause honestly there's a difference. I've worked as a 3D Artist for animated feature films for three years without any education, and now I'm focussing all my efforts on getting into an art school to improve my art, and it's way harder to get in there than it was to get a job. The commercial industry needs a different set of skills from hobby artists~

Oh dear, almost 27, (I'm 53); I reckon you've got plenty of time if you're determined enough! I started plein air watercolour painting about three years ago and, whilst I'm not brilliant, I have become reasonably competent but it's the hardest medium I've ever tried to learn. The thing is I'm hooked now and the thrill of finishing a painting with my little watercolour kit from real life while you're outdoors is just lovely. I still go through phases of thinking I'm terrible at this and hating my work or having failure after failure but I can't stop now I don't think. So, (and I wish I'd had this advice when I was your age) pull your finger out (as we say in the UK) and get down to it if you're serious. I'm not a professional artist (I started in graphics) although I have developed my skills enough that I now get paid to illustrate and animate as well as my usual activities in the industry so I'm very happy that I started my art journey despite it being much later in life than you.
