Appreciate your thoughts on this. Mental health above all else. Recharge time away from the grind is a must -- for yourself and for those who share the journey with you. Definitely not what many of us were taught growing up, but for those of us who've seen the toll that takes first hand, it becomes a non-negotiable. A lot to explore with respect to the Japanese experience and the unique vision, creative power...and wounds...that it produces. Definitely here for that discussion to take further shape, time permitting of course.

Lol! True...when time permits. It is nice to talk about the HOW in art making instead of just THE art itself. I think its really important and it allows people to know more about the artists we love. Since these days, with all the social media stuff, the people behind everything seems to be the focus. At least this could be a more meaningful convo than what usually takes place.

@@STRYDENT Agreed. And almost paradoxically, by the same token that social media places that focus on the creator, it also drives a constant demand for production, a "what's next and new" mentality, and the need for the instant gratification of the consumer. So we are left with the artist as another consumable, without having really cultivated any appreciation for their humanity.

Dragon ball is barely the tip of the iceberg. Sounds like you really need to just expand your horizons and try out more new stuff. Gurren Lagaan Puppet Princess Ranma 1/2 Hajime no Ippo Detonator Orgun Votoms Project Ako Sword of the Stranger Escaflowne Just to name a few. Also, if the anime don't do it for you, there's Manga. They usually maintain their uniqueness in the manga where as in the anime, the more generic elements are thrown in or amplified to reach a wider audience. Kinda like how modern fighting games have included modes and features to make the games easier for casuals or lazy playersin hopes of selling more units.
