It’s also important to note that Daniel suffered from bi-polar and schizophrenia and I feel his work was part of his way to deal with some of those demons. I also found Space Ducks, one of his comics, for like two dollars at Ollie’s Bargain Outlet if anyone lives in the Mid-Atlantic area.

This is beautiful and I loved how Ed talked about Soulless Art, it’s an epidemic.

Damn! Johnson had good taste in comics. Was a fan of his music and never knew he was into the trippier 70's comics. This was great. Like how you guys are touching on how comics permeate other areas culturally.

He's one of those dudes, like Wesley Willis and Roky Erickson that existed in and created stuff that allowed a window into a fascinating space between schizophrenia and psychedelia... folks who, in being a little off, were able to maintain child-like unbridled creativity and humor. Jermaine Rogers made a pretty badass rock poster in collaboration with him a while back... ao5gallery.com/files/images/_big_arton5th_10844.jpg check it out.

Bought an original right around the time he died... the earnestness is part of what makes it feel so special, there's an honesty to outsider art in general, and Daniel's art in particular (for me).

WOW ok, you guys are really killing it. So we had an original piece of his at the old shop I use to run .SO glad you guys are going into Outsider Art. I think Mike Diana's weirdness might be a worthy topic since as a "comic artist" he did get an obscenity charge in Florida.

This was great! I've been a fan of Daniel's ever since I saw the documentary. So glad that you guys seek out and share stuff like this. I would love to see you dive into some Henry Darger. If you've seen "In the Realms of the Unreal," you'll know that all of his writings, drawings, and paintings were part of a massive 15,000 page graphic novel. Yes, FIFTEEN THOUSAND pages!

I was lucky enough to receive a DJ original piece back in maybe 2000, it's one of my favorite things in my collection. He did produce an oversized book of his comics, funded through kickstarter a maybe six or seven years ago, entitled Space Ducks. If you ever see a copy, it's worth picking up.

This man was expected to an Elton John like figure his talent was so massive and so was his creativity. His musician friends expected him to be switching costumes mid show and stuff. Unfortunately do to his illnesses he made a few choices that self sabotaged his career. Making him a legend instead

R.I.P. Daniel. It was simply by fate we had never got to meet being from tis same small, crappy town when we shared the smell stomping grounds in virtually the same time space because New Cumberland is NOT very big, but most of the cops are still as bog a pr*cks as ever! Hypocritical b*st*rds! Maybe we can bump into each other in the NEXT life. LOVE your artwork btw, about to check out your sounds now because of it! Be blessed and look down upon those of us still suffering and rest easy now that you suffer no more. Peace.

There are hundreds of creative artists like Daniel but people are interested in him because lot of big shots supported him. Otherwise even a talented and genius like Daniel would have been a nobody like many worldwide.
