The guitarists don't move around during that song because of how long it is & how personal the song is to Yoshiki (drummer/pianist), so they didn't want to screw up at any point during it. Also, this performance is one of the only two times that they played Art Of Life live in its full half hour entirety because of how physically & emotionally draining it is for Yoshiki to play it. You should check out "Tears" from X Japan next. There's two videos that I've seen for that song, one a live performance with subtitles, the other on Yoshiki's channel which has footage from a number of their concerts. Take your choice of which to watch.

Truly an epic song. I noticed you’re still talking about “the pianist” and “the drummer”. It’s the same guy, Yoshiki. He puts a lot of himself into both the compositions and the live performances.

"Art of Life " was the first song i listened from X Japan . It was love at first listen xd I became an X Japan fans in that moment . "Art of Life " remains my favorite song . Such a masterpiece

Wow, I used to skip the long solo piano part on the middle but its art expressing the madness that is life. I love listening to the studio version while reading the touching beautiful lyrics. Yoshiki, who plays both the drums and piano, has been considered a modern day Mozard. He is a virtuoso on the piano and amazing drummer. He was the leader on X-Japan and they have a very interesting and sad story. There is a documentary about Yoshiki "My Music Story" on Disney + X-Japan were heavy metal but they also have beautiful rock ballads like "Forever Love" and "Crusify my Love". Most of their songs are in Japanese but they do have some English songs. Yoshiki was a big fan of KISS and they have performed together. He doesn't really sing but I love their song 'The Last Song' with Yoshiki's words.

You are awesome for reacting to “Art of Life” The drummer Yoshiki is credited with writing and composing this masterpiece. When Yoshiki was ask about the meaning of this song his response was “I think I tried to convince even myself not to die. Try to keep going. It's a very positive message I think. Because I was very suicidal. I just hated life a lot of times. That's also the message for people, also myself as well. I had to convince myself to keep going. Then I wrote the song.”

I'm impressed lol. Most people probably would give up on this song when actively listening to it... I think it's great, but I probably enjoy it more as something in the background most of the time... It's a tremendous journey, but also somewhat repetitive in various aspects... The Piano solo is a great artistic expression, but it does go on a little bit too long for most people, maybe... I think that's part of the point of it, but you know? It'd be interesting to compare the studio and live versions... I feel like they might be near enough identical (although I haven't directly compared), which is interesting, considering how crazy and random it seems sometimes... I believe Yoshiki has been said to notate every bit of music in the songs he writes (every instrument, including drums, fully scored), so it'd be interesting to know if this was a one to one comparison too and if it was all fully notated... I'm not sure anything is ever improvised at a performance. Yoshiki does have a drum solo piece that he does sometimes too, if you're interested... He tends not to have massive solos within their songs, but he does have this solo piece on drums, which he sometimes does. I do love the guitar parts and everything, but Yoshiki on drums and piano has captivated me more and more over the years... Although it's a miracle that he can play at all anymore lol, bless him... His neck issues from headbanging too crazily... I think he has all of the repetitive strain injuries and asthma on top of that... I swear, I think there's like about 9 minutes straight of him drumming like a lunatic at one point during this song... I'm surprised he didn't pass out... They started keeping oxygen tanks by the stage at some point, just in case... Even if you don't enjoy their music, you'd have to respect his musicianship and dedication.

Dang, didn't think you were gonna react to this, but so happy you did. I'll let some other tell you the story behind this composition, but yeah you're right, he was having a breakdown. Yoshiki puts so much of himself into his music. The only person that comes to mind that can compare to Yoshiki is Prince, in terms of musicianship and song writing. We are ❌, 🤘🦊🤘

Both are multi instrumentalists, both are great at song writing and composition, though Prince is a better singer.... Did you ever get around to checking out Endless Rain from their Last Live concert, or Endless Rain where Yokshiki performed with members of Queen, Sara Brightman and Babymetal (and a few other Japanese artists)?....

Sometimes I wondered, true that the song is Yoshiki's composition but how did Toshl manage to give his all in this? Same with all the guitarists because by listening to it, the intensity is like sea waves sometimes calm and other times is turbulent same thing goes with piano solo probably that describes what our real life is! I would recommend you to check Saki (Nemophila) favorite band, also Kobametal (BABYMETAL) favorite band and great inspiration for the project he produces. SEIKIMA-II, another one of the japanese classics. They look like Kiss, but play like Judas Priest.
