Art on Wheels! 1991 Rover Metro GTI (1 owner) to be sold in auction

A rare beast indeed. One owner from new, a 1991 Rover Metro GTI going into auction at Elstob’s Auctioneers in Ripon. With an estimate of £4000 to £6000…I think it’ll make more. What do you think?

Had an H-reg identical to this one and a GTi-SE in Nightfire Red(1 of 500). Unfortunately the H-reg rotted away and the SE was written off. Vastly underrated cars.

I had one of the 16v mpi versions from 1994 in dark green. I bought it for £100 sometime in the late 2000s and ran it for a year until it failed its MOT with a list of faults longer than my arm. Fantastic car, went like shit off a shovel and genuinely scared me on occasion.

Saw quite a few of these as my Dad worked at Longbridge and we lived a few miles away. I didn't realise they were rare. It was called the "Metty Valve" among us at the time.

Had one of these out in nz Caribbean blue 1992 mpi loved that car

This is the lower powered single point injection model. You can tell by the alloys and the inlet manifold. I had a red multi point injection model in red. Loved it. But the hydrogas suspension was its letdown, horrendous handling and tendancy to lift off oversteer too easily!!

Bit late to the party - but there is an identical 1991 GTi on eBay at the moment with just 18k miles - £13k! I had a J reg in BRG many years ago. Huge fun & handled like a go kart. From memory, the brakes were never that good & I honestly thought I would die in it at some point. 😂

Hatte auch einen, es war das geilste Auto mit vielen Geschichten die beste war mit einen Renault Clio Williams.😂 Leider völlig ausgestorben in good old Germany😢 😢😢😢

40,000 miles single owner and well-maintained? Now that's a barn find. It doesn't look like much, but it's from the dead end of the era when you could still work on your own car. I bet she's in better shape than most cars on the road now. It'll sell for... really good used car price + however much more David Elstob can coax out of the car nuts in attendance. Where I live one that old would be highly prized as a daily driver, since the car tax would be pennies.
