do you use references or you just do it from memory? especially the poses

Hey! mainly AI-generated photos and images. But sometimes I'm inspired by artworks or poses from drawing manuals to come up with ideas that stand out from the ‘ordinary’.

great stuff ! how long does it take you to draw this kind of characters ?

Thank you! I limit each drawing to 1 hour maximum. When it's complex, like the last one with the 3 characters, I go straight to the point. For this session, each sketch is finished in 30 minutes on average. I take the rest of the time to consolidate, make it easier to read or go into a little more detail.

@@aelyciadthanks ! I've been struggling for a while to do a proper drawing without spending hours on it, and in the end I get a pretty mediocre result...

You're welcome. I've changed a few things in my recent sketching sessions. As you can see from this video, I'm no longer trying to draw a clean line, but rather a line that's as accurate as possible, focusing on drawing a clear, coherent structure with harmonious proportions. Having a beautiful and stylish drawing is secondary, even if it remains an important criterion that I try to validate with each drawing. In short, you shouldn't hesitate to let go and take advantage of sketching sessions to make mistakes and experiment with new techniques or methodologies. Stepping out of your comfort zone on a regular basis also helps you to progress. Don't give up, you'll make progress. Keep up the good work!

The struggle is normal until you reach a certain proficiency. My suggestion is to study simplified body proportions (not necessarily "real" anatomy, just an approximation), and really be sure how everything should be constructed. Going from rough sketch in a few steps is important, as is shown in the video here. I recommend watching LinesSensei lessons on YT, then adapting the fundamentals to your preferred style.
