As I mentioned in the video - I am a total amateur when it comes to paint-making. Any handmade paint experts out there - I would really appreciate any tips you might have to share! I also left a great article in the description box that talks in-depth about the type of binder and pigments shown in this video. I found it while this video was uploading so unfortunately, could not talk about it in the video but please take a look if you're more interested in the pigments! As always, please leave any suggestions or video requests below. I would love to know what you would like to see more of!
@carolinaarias16694 жыл бұрын
like you yourself said in the video you need a "humectant" in your paint, glicerine, honey, corn syrup work for this pourpose, if you only have the binder, the paint is gonna be really hard to rewet, secondly, you are mulling your paint a bit too fast you can know this because there where a lot of bubbles, now, bubbles are /bad/ but they will remain in there while the paint dries, so you will find them again when rewetting your paint. so just fo a slower when mulling and you also dont need to apply any force, just let the muller glide on the glass slab :)

I personally am a beginner too, but i would recommend testing your batches, as you can QUICKLY get a too big batch. So make sure to have enough pans! Furthermore, if you ever use earth pigments you'll need clove oil, because that's what make sure your pigment will not mold! I personally use glycerine & honey in my paint. (:

A month ago I was inspired by artists who make their own watercolors and wanted to make my own too but I didn’t want to buy pigments & binder. So I just crumbled a tiny bit of my graphite pencil into dust and mixed it with honey on two pieces of scotch tape. I also used a random metal stick as a mower. As a result I got almost a half pan of really good water-soluble graphite:)

The pigments are really lovely. Making paints by hand is a good way of learning how the different pigments react when testing out different recipes. I look at is an advance watercolor study. Just remember to use protection when making paints, I would also advise using a maks when working with pigments. I don't know how many pigments still are toxic, but breathing in fine dust could potentially lead to some health issues.
