The Inktense pencils really pop with water. I prefer them over the blocks. One of my all time favorites.

I agree, cheap or "student grade" supplies are just fun. and can be used to make some very satisfying art with...whether you keep it for yourself...to learn or experiment with or if you end up loving it 😍 you scan it to use digitally or make prints from. My only caution is to probably stay away from the "super cheap" supplies that may perform badly in the most talented hands. In the U.S. we have discount stores called "Five Below" and they have really pumped up their art and crafting supplies in the recent past. I bought a set of metallic liquid watercolors there and got the nicest results when just playing around with them. And of course, there's always "Dollar Tree" (US) and other dollar plus type stores all over the world now that have some decent and very cheap art supplies. We can usually be safe with well-known brands of student grade or even "kids" supplies ...those are really the best for your money! Thanks for sharing!

It sounds like you have some really great options in the US for a variety of supplies. Thanks for sharing those and your experience with some of them! I agree the super cheap supplies can just be frustrating and knowing why something is cheaper always helps too. I really appreciate your thoughts! 💖✨

I find the Inktense pencils to be handy to make a base layer of color that doesn't reactivate when I layer more color over the top. Also when I need an outline to not smudge etc as they are permanent once dry. I use a brush that does not hold a lot of water to activate the pencil. A small flat straight brush usually.

That’s a really great idea to use them that way!

Try Arches Hot Press I buy the sheets to save money. Micheal's carries it in 3 packs and with my 40% off coupon and $5 voucher it only cost me $8!!! Don' be afraid to use good cotton paper. It is sustainable versus trees.

Just found you and have subscribed. I didnt like the inktence when I first bought them but there is a learning curve to them, they are AMAZING, ive done some gorgeous pieces with them. Ive seen people wet the tips and take the colour off with the paint brush but the water eventually seeps up the pencils and they disintergrate just a little tip not to do that

@@kerriesartandslowliving I’ve tried them and loooove them!!! I actually just filmed a haul with them. I’m so happy I bought them. I ended up getting both sets. The fluorescent set as well as the main set of 12(ish) colors. I ended up finishing off my inketense set of pencils! I adore those things. I’ve got to swatch them out to make sure I’ve got all of them… if I don’t it’s because it’s a pretty similar color to another or it’s out of stock. Sorry for the late response, I was hit by hurricane Milton ( we’re safe and healthy ) and I’ve been in a deep funk but finally getting out of it! Looking forward to catching up on KZbin! Hope all is well! Xoxo

@@kerriesartandslowliving The beauty of inktense is that, once they have dried, they don’t re-wet like watercolor. Also, they work great on fabric projects,

You sounds a bit sad when you tried Derwent Inktense pencils. They are basically watercolours. Tricky to use but fun to work with them. I'll say they are bit magical 🤗
@kerriesartandslowlivingАй бұрын
Thanks so much for your thoughts on the Derwent Inktense pencils. I did actually try them briefly with water at a later date and debated adding that into this video - I should have:) next time I’ll know better! I have to say, I was really impressed with the vibrancy of the colour when wet and how much pigment they have. I’ll have to start using them more now! I think I agree, they do look like they could be quite magical!✨😃

Curious, why not just use hot press (smooth, sized) watercolor paper rather than bristol?
@kerriesartandslowlivingАй бұрын
That’s a good question, thanks! I do also use a hot press watercolour paper but back in the day you could only buy cold pressed watercolour paper so I got used to using a hot press illustration board and then Strathmores Bristol paper. I’ve used it quite a lot so honestly I’m just used to it and I like the results I get for the way I work.

I enjoyed seeing all of your supplies. Good luck on your channel. I've subscribed. One question....why are art supplies so expensive in Canada?
@kerriesartandslowlivingАй бұрын
Thank you so much! I’m really glad you enjoyed it and it’s so lovely to have you join our little art community! Good question, I’m not sure I have the exact answer! I think a part of it is really just inflation that I know many are feeling, not just here in Canada but we also have less options and art stores here too - it’s a tough and expensive business for the stores too. Also, it’s just generally a little more expensive in Canada I think:)
@TjVoelkerArtАй бұрын
@@kerriesartandslowliving thanks for answering! I live in a small town in Indiana and we don't have any art stores other than Michaels, which as you know is pricey. I usually order from Amazon or Blick and now I get my favorite pastels from Dakota's, which is based in Seattle. Happy creating to you! Nice to meet a fellow artist!

Sometimes buying better quality paints can save you time and your mental health - I bought some cheap acrylics set, and while most of them were usable, the reds are so shitty that the only thing I could do with them was throw them straight into trash can 😂 They didn't provide decent coverage, and when I tried to add another layer, the one that already was there started to chip 😂 I agree that you don't need the most expensive materials, but if you're easily getting frustrated get some decent ones, don't make my mistake 😁
@kerriesartandslowliving26 күн бұрын
Oh sorry to hear about your experience but it’s great that you shared it! I definitely agree with you, some really cheap art supplies can be frustrating for sure. My daughter had some cheap gouache and it was the same. Student grade by a decent art supplies manufacturer is usually a good starting point😃
@ewelinaskoczylas330125 күн бұрын
@@kerriesartandslowliving I got some lesson from it - always google the opinions about the product or/and company before buying something :D But I agree that student grade supplies are good for a start, and sometimes you can like it even better than some professional stuff :)

The things you are calling "pencil crayons" are just pencils. "Crayon" is French for pencil, so they put that word after "pencil" because it's the French translation.
