Art Supplies Haul! Christmas 2021

A herbier is a book that is used to store dried plants! We have a lot of these in France :D usually you put the flower, leaf or whatever in the book then you press it under heavy objects for a certain period of time until the greenery is flat and dry. That’s what the glassine paper is for :D it’s super cool that you found one! Can’t wait to see your pastel art with it!

Lots of these everywhere across Europe, actually! We usually have to do our own as a part of high school biology lessons (Slovakia). You can find some impressive ones in the museums focused on natural heritage and botanical institutions, too 😍

It was an incredible exhibition, I really loved being "immersed" in the artworks, and there was beautiful music too. Hopefully it comes your way; I'm sure it will! Haha I stayed away from the Daniel Smith; buy one and end up buying the lot, and go completely broke, lol!

Hi Becky I bought Paul Ruben's glitter watercolour paper for myself for christmas, it's 100% cotton and comes beautiful packaged. I trued it today and its beautiful, I thought the glitter would not show when painted on but it does its beautiful. Bought it on amazon

So much fun! that herbier book will be awesome if you have native Australian flowers around you... I follow a ceramic artist who has an amazing garden and I really think the flowering gum is beautiful.. I also have 2 Tintoretto brushes that I got from A. Gallo and one from Jackson's, and I really love the one you got, the one from A. Gallo is a 1337 synthetic travel brush and it has to be my favorite paint brush that I have.

Oh great, I am glad that the Tintoretto brushes are good - I have barely had a chance to sit down properly with my stuff as I was away for Christmas etc and I hope to get some time over the next week or so to regroup and sort my stuff out, haha. I have been eyeing up the da Vinci brush thing, with the special drawing tip for ages, and would love to see how it performs at both ends as I have had a yen for some kind of silverpoint type capability for years. I'm definitely interested of the derwent metallic pens. I bought the original 12 piece set about 10 years ago and I was super disapointed in them. Not sure if I had a bad batch, but the lead in many pencils contained weird hard lumps of what I assume would be wax or some other ingredient, which made the defective pencils impossible to use in fine art.

Ah yes, I remember using some years ago and they weren't great. Since then I think they have improved their formula, as I do have some recent single metallics and they are so much nicer to use! I hope this whole set is just as good. 😊

Maybe that sharpener is for pastel pencils because it reminds of the Caran D’ache one for pastel pencils. The CD one looks more like a potato peeler but I think the principle may be the same

I will never judge anyone for spending on art supplies - especially if they are actual artists, unlike me - because I'd be a massive hypocrite if I did. 😅 I _am_ actually using my art supplies I've collected, because if I didn't start using them up, I may need to live an additional 100 years. And lastly, I missed an opportunity to see the Van Gogh exhibit when it was last in my city. Someone pointed out my Starry Night mask the other day and asked if I had seen the exhibit, and when I said no, he mentioned that it's in town again...

How exciting-I think you were a very good girl. I have the Van Gogh muted palette-love it. Love all of my huge collection of Van Gogh paints. Kim Crick did a great review on it. I have a few Rembrandt tubes-I think you'll like them. I'm partial to Royal Talens products because they're vegan. I wish they'd do a holiday antiquarian sticker book. It is called Hollands Picture Framing and Art Supplies - they didn't have a massive range but what they did have was pretty good, and also they had things which I have never seen in Melbourne stores so that was fun!

Merry Christmas Becky! The chameleons because they are really cool but I think they'd be difficult to use. I have my kneadable erasers in little plastic cases like that but Faber-Castell brand, and they are awesome. It keeps the dust etc off them on my desk and I know it's always nice and clean and won't mark my paper. I like some of the other lyra erasers- very soft and crumbly so never damage my paper, hopefully their kneadable is good too. If not just keep the case 😁 I only have one Rembrandt watercolour- i bought cobalt teal in every single brand to compare lol, so I'll be interested to see what you think 😊 hmmm- good luck choosing what to review first!!

I went to the Van Gogh Immersion Exhibition in Columbus Ohio and in two weeks, I’m going to see the MichelAngelo Sistine Chapel at Beavercreek, Ohio USA

Oh awesome! I think that Sistine Chapel one is coming here too...I am very curious to see it, and how it compares to the real thing. It was so incredibly packed with people and mostly I remember a guard constantly yelling "Silencio"! and "No photo!" 😂

@@BeckyTregear everyone is different. Perhaps you like them. BTW, I have the art toolkit palette(s) as well and they sell all kind of palettes and pans at Senior Art. You can mix and match with all sorts of sizes. So much fun!

What a great haul! Very nice experience going to the Van Gogh exhibit. I got a leather journal for Christmas, too. It will be interesting to see what medium works best in it. Never seen the rest of the paper you bought, it looks interesting . Gorgeous metal colored gouache. Did derwent change there metallic pencils? I would like a good set, I will wait and see your review. I like Van Gogh watercolor paint. They are my favorite student brand. I have tubes. Bought a few to try and I like them. Then the store put them on clearance and I bought a bunch more. I am guessing the pans are the same. Very good deals you got. I have one waffle flower swatch stamp and I like it. The procolor pencils I want them but I am buying when I get paid the luminance if. No one else gets it first only 180$ also prismacolors 150 set and faber castell Pitt pastel pencils which ur suppose to use sanded paper with pastels and use sanded paper to use the brush and pencil I learned you can make your own I used clear gesso , then 2 different matte mediums gel and liquid, both worked well with the brush and pencil regular powder perfect so instead of buying 7 pieces of sanded paper for over. 20$ I am making my own

I vote for the ArtGraf as first video…. I’ve never seen that pack…. I think the wooden base for the Hovel is a support to use when you’re sharpening your pencils? I’m not sure but I think I’ve seen a review on KZbin and they used the wooden base to hold the sharpener…. Good luck playing with it…it is truly a thing of beauty. Take care

Right so about halfway through I decided we can never be friends as I'm far too jealous of your fabulous new art supplies 😭 (joke) but girl you must have been well behaved because Santa bought you heaps of stuff! Hmm I can't decide what I want to see most but I'm curious about the art graf stuff because I nearly bought it. But all of it is good.

Thank you! We were in lockdown for much of the year so I couldn't cause much mayhem and therefore was extra good....or something....lol! 😂 I am looking forward to trying out the Art Grafs - they look so cool!

Do you remember where you got the leather journal? I know its been almost 2 years so you might not. I see a lot of journals at places like Vic Market, but the quality never looks nice. The paper never looks like it will work for anything art related. I'm racking my brain and I have absolutely no memory of where I bought it! Aaaah why didn't I put links in??? 😱 Would you believe I have not yet used it; it's staring at me from my office bookshelf right now.... but I have recently pulled out all of my partially done sketchbooks and it's a bit of a nightmare seeing how many of those I have! I'll be making a video soon addressing this, lol. I have a feeling I bought the book at one of those vintage markets? Maybe at someone's handmade items stall? Sorry I can't be more helpful!
