Pallet knives are usually used to mix paint so your brushes don't have streaks of colors in them from mixing. Also some people paint with pallet knives if they want textured globs of paint!

I'm more of a writer, but my little sister is into art, and I've gotten her some canvasses, paint, and paintbrushes during this whole time being stuck in the house, and for her birthday 2 weeks ago, and it's just amazing how beautifully she does it...totally envious.

So with the palette knives they’re basically for mixing paint. You can also make strokes with them but honestly I don’t know how people do that madness. You can mix paint with regular brushes too but regular brushes aren’t as good as mixing paint as the knives are because when you mix with brushes you can get streaks instead of solid colors.

Blick’s is a good art store that has more options than Michael’s but it’s a little expensive, still worth checking out though!! and also if you don’t want your cardstock to bend when painting with the gouache paints, you can soak it beforehand in water and tape the edges to a board and let it dry overnight, it stretches the paper so it doesn’t bend and buckle when you paint on it :)

Or you could try prepainting the paper with some gesso! :-) that will stiffen the cardstock too. Never thought about the water, will test that out too.

I was not surprised you couldn't find what you needed at Michael's they mainly push their own brand. There are 2 types gouache, acrylic and artist. Acrylic won't reactivate and artist gouache will. I really like Holbein which carry both types.

if you need any art supplies in the future I definitely recommend checking out Blick Art Supplies! (dickblick.com) they have really high-quality stuff and they're super affordable! that's what I used when I was in school for GD :) so much better than Amazon imo. also you're probably gonna be doing a lot of painting/drawing on paper so I would get some type of easel! even a tabletop one would be helpful... I found it so much easier than painting/drawing flat on a table or the floor :)

Please don't mix acrylic paint with gouache. Each type of paint has it's purpose and the binders are vastly different. Acrylic paint is plastic and mixing that into gouache will change what makes gouache gouache.

Ive had an Amazon Fire tablet for YEARS. 3-4 different models. And I wish I had an IPad or heck even an android tablet! There are quite a few apps I wish I had that I know IPads and Android tablets have but Fire tablets can't get.

i think it might be better to bite the bullet and go for an ipad. i dont have one personally but i know a few friends and some youtubers who have tried out different tablets, and it seems like an ipad will last you and might be more user friendly! (i wish i could give you a personal review but this is what i've heard) i might be buying one soon too
