jimmy james has the best guitar tone on earth right now. so so raw and amazing feedback control, one of my favorite players. his precision and deliberation reminds me of david gilmour, just way more bluesy. would love to see what he could do with a buttload of delay and a heavy stoner rock backing track

This is just a fantastic performance. The entire horn section is phenomenal. I have been told doing lengthy trombone solos is difficult and I loved what Greg did in Famous Last Words and Jason's trombone in Kabuki. I discovered The True Loves at the outset of Covid while exploring music, and if only they could make it to Canada: Toronto, Montreal, Ottawa I know they would sell out. I did hear that recently David McGraw "FBI" has left the band due to family commitments - its a real shame to hear that and hope he can return at some point in the future. When I am at my desk working Famous Last Words is one of my goto albums, and the live performance on KEXP one of my top 5 KZbin vids for playing on my TV (with soundbar of course!). Thanks Trueloves for making music real! I hope you get more recognition for your amazing music.

I do not put my non existent reputation on the line here because I know that I’m right. Jimmy James and the True Loves gave a final act main stage performance at the Vancouver folk music festival yesterday, Saturday July 15 2023, for the ages. Jimmy showed off his vast charisma that would put Hendrix in second place. This is a vast statement but I know it to be self evident for anyone watching with the seating which I had. Front row in the middle with the thousands of souls behind me. JH would have been no competition for JIMMY J last nite. Why? Because humour is lacking in music today and JH was a great performer but he and his life lacked that quality (although JH did have an underlying joke ability laughing at his own performance and jokes). Notably the 2 sax and 2 trombones were in very tight with JJ- the drummer and percussionist were awesome. Now let me say that JJ did play the guitar with his mouth and did a number of jaw dropping riffs but his expressions while playing are embedded in his DNA and are a gift he was born with along with his looks, hair, style and big round happy face. His horn section looked dumb-founded at JJ’s performance as was I at this stupefying man. I played the piano as a kid and the alto, tenor and soprano saxes on and off for the last forty years and could clearly hear experimentation going on in the horn section which added to the number of innovative riffs by JJ. I don’t expect JJ to have the writing ability of JH and would not expect anyone in the near or faraway future but as a band the “true loves” have what it takes to turn INSTRUMENTAL music on its ear. GBG NO EDITS.
