A pioneer of large-format color photography, Richard Misrach has photographed the American desert for decades, examining the impact of human activity on the natural landscape. This segment follows the artist as he travels to remote parts of the desert, photographing the visual contradiction of the ominous wall against beautiful landscapes and collaborating with the composer Guillermo Galindo to create installations and musical performances that utilize the items found in the desert. Collectively, Misrach’s work chronicles the places where nature and culture collide, highlighting where beauty and ugliness exist side-by-side.

This has been done by other photographers before in a better way. A slanted approach to a hackneyed affair. it's funny he never mention the word Mexico in all the video, never cross his mind to cross at the other side, his points of view are disgustingly conservative and the guy seems very self indulgent inside his confort zone.

He is making a living as an artist, drawing our attention to situations not covered much through any other mediums. It evokes questions. How can places be so beautiful and controversial at the same time. It is evocative not only aesthetically, but from a social documentary perspective, not dissimilar from a long tradition of American social documentary photography.
