Art2Life.com - Have you ever wondered how visualization and imagination can set the stage for success? This week, we’re diving into why shifting from self-doubt to intrinsic motivation is vital for any artist.
I explore the importance of taking those small, consistent steps to achieve our goals. We can’t underestimate how having an engaged mentor to coach you can fast-track your growth.
Investing in yourself-whether through resources or time-can be the stepping stone to overcoming self-judgment and fostering an abundance mindset.
I also share my thoughts on the power of community and the necessity of internal growth over external validation and give artists practical steps to take to allow them to price their work confidently and accurately.
================================
LISTEN IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN…
[12:13] Creating art reveals insecurities and fear of judgment
[16:32] Investing in yourself boosts learning and transformation
[19:40] Start valuing yourself-it sparks transformative change
[22:03] Imagine reality vividly because your brain will act it as if it really happened
[26:20] Prioritize self-care to inspire creativity
[30:47] Self-awareness and focus are essential for progress
[36:34] Creating art helps you reflect and understand yourself
[39:58] Create art playfully and connect with others who do the same

Dear Nicholas, this video fully revealed what an extraordinary human being you are. Your willingness to share your vulnerabilities is yet another dimension of the depth of your commitment to our learning. I completed CVP this past spring, joined The Academy, and am doing your SPARK intensive now. You are one of the very best teachers I’ve had (there have been many). At the start of CVP I didn’t fully grasp the whole concept of art and life and soul. You’re leading the way to deep integration of art and soul is exactly what I was looking for. Thank you so very much.

Thank you so much Nick for sharing such a personal and vulnerable story. I was in a marriage for 26 years with a husband who developed borderline and ended up diagnosed with bipolar disorder. So , not possible to live with him anymore. During the difficult times in my marriage I started painting, scheduled one evening a week for myself to create. It was not good art, but I loved to create and get lost in the creativity. After my divorce I moved to another city and still love to live alone, enjoying my home, my garden and my art improved so much. I have a fulltime job and in my free time I paint. I have soli exhibitions in my area, I participate in group exhibitions abroad. Every now and then I sell a painting, from the Netherlands, to the USA, United Kingdom to Australia and I love it. I followed some of your free courses and I know I will follow the CVP next year. Thank you again Nick for being you ❤

Nic, Thankyou so much for this podcast!!! OMG! you spoke directly to me. I think this will change my life as an artist and beyond. I'm 78 years and kinda got stuck during covid when my husband started working from home. I like to be alone while painting! I am moving on now, trying harder. This podcast is wonderful for me and addressed so many issues. To say thank you just doesn't make it!!!! I think you just changed my life at a time I was thinking of giving up!!!!

This super sensitivity towards feeling others is a trauma response - I have it too and it is a curse and a blessing. It took me years of unpacking and self-work to make it work positively for me, so much so that it drove me to become a certified coach so I can help others too. I love painting, always have and was deterred for years from practicing and developing in this directions....story for another time. Love the openness and sincerity!!

This was fantastic. Thanks so much for sharing your past so eloquently. I found it really moving and I was painting as you were talking and I love the deep conversations, the ones that get you to really think and feel, I find this and music really help me to get into a flow state. I think art is a discovery and a healing process. Its about valuing yourself and your time enough which is 😁 challenging. These podcasts are awesome, thank you so much.

Thank you so very much for this. You brought me to tears. You spoke directly to me, to my heart and I am able to see clearly what I have been missing and where I want to go. How I have to start and just go through the process even if I don’t know where I am going and where I will end up. I also like so many grew up in a trauma filled home and it is amazing how this has influenced my life through the limiting beliefs I internalized. I will listen to this again and have already emailed it forward to close friends. You bring so much light🌟🌟

This was a powerful episode. I listened to it on the way to work this morning, but I'll listen a few more times. I'm sensitive because I grew up in a trauma-filled house. I was below average in school and barely graduated high school. Fast-forward four decades, and I achieved a Master's degree at 55. I'm thrilled with the different forms of art out on the Internet. There is so much to learn, and I'm loving my artistic journey. My goal is to sell art when I retire and make a living from my art and travel. Lots of travel. :) Thank you for sharing something deeply personal. But you give us hope and that's what is so important.

Although its not about painting, I have a creative job, which I'm good at, but the pricing is the issue. It's all about self-worth and I can feel it so clearly now. It's a common thread in my life. I'm really touched by this. Thanxxx again. X

Thank you so much for your sharing of how this has played out in your own life even as recently as yesterday. I found it so helpful when you have framed this as generosity and commitment to ourselves with time and energy for ourselves. I hadn't really seen how I spend my resources to get external validation quite so clearly before and the generational patterns of over giving and hyper sensitivity to others whilst shutting off more and more from myself and what I want. your podcasts are a wonderful gift of your own hard won wisdom and I understood some very profound aspects of my self expresssion from the breadcrumbs challenge. This brought tears to my eyes. I’ve had so much rejection in my life and art is literally what has saved my life. I’ve had to overcome “others being better artists”, etc. With that thinking, I stepped away into many other career directions. Yet, there was always this small nagging voice in my ear telling me to create SOMETHING artistically. In my 60’s now and doing it. Whether bad or good, I must create.

The thing that strikes me about this is that I am confident in all parts of my life, including my art practice - EXCEPT when I listen to Wilton. He is so adept and emphatic in describing art and creativity in a way completely foreign to me it invalidates my experience. Maintaining my self-worth and confidence requires a vigorous resistance to his message. I want to make art MY way, not his.

@@nancyfern8044 , he talks about how to connect your heart and soul with your art, to create work that makes your soul happy. There's an emphasis on bringing your emotions to the page, so it feels the way you *want* your art to feel. You can create art that speaks to the viewer, and makes them feel those emotions. Is this an incorrect interpretation of what he's trying to teach us?

@@robertwalker-smith2739Nic is talking in truisms about facts of life, it is about life no matter what we may wish to pursue. We could be a sport person or a business person… an endeavour won’t work unless you are all in and work in the present and have self belief. If this is what you heard? Then you are on the right track, in this art journey people can see authenticity when it is shown to them.

Sounds a bit dangerous equating art making with self making. I know, as a runner, that a sense of efficacy naturally occurs as your fitness improves. Art making is very similar. Tho, lots of the self worth is contingent on 'successful' art making, just as in actually completing a training session in running. The key is in realizing what the definition of a 'successful painting session' is. In my opinion, most people don't count "learning a lot" as a success. If you play an instrument and create lots of mistakes, you just end up learning how to recreate lots of mistakes. The self worth, the sense of efficacy, the empowerment, comes from improvement. So, how do you improve? I suppose that a good coach would help - in running and in painting. Someone external to your hypercritical inner voice who can put your experience in the "success" category.
