Recorded at Tiffany's, Glasgow, 29th December 1981.
Original recording that unfortunately suffers from some hiss and a little FM static noise now and again compared to the 5 song rebroadcast version I put up here a few years ago.
Radio Clyde recorded 2 Simple Minds concerts and many other bands in the early to mid-eighties. Goodness knows what has happened to all the master tapes over the years. Probably gone forever!
This captures the band at their Krautrock influenced best. Enjoy!

My first ever gig. A spotty 14 year old wearing a Bowie jacket, frilly shirt, and burgundy tukka boots. A couple of sneaky pints in Hurricanes followed by some Moscow Mules in Centre Court across the road from Tiffany's. Brilliant to hear it after so many years.

I think the years of lack of commercial recognition for their brilliance in 1980 and 1981 took its toll on the band, causing them to make compromise after compromise as the years went on. When I hear This Fear of Gods, I hear an entire band sacrificing themselves for art both physically and mentally, being vulnerable. No one really was listening in 1980, and this got to them. That's my take anyway.

SM at their darkest best. To think, there must be so many recordings sat in dusty drawers of SMs early gigs and nothing ever gets officially released. Just endless greatest hits with all their worst songs on.

40th Sons album anniversary next year. I hope Jim and Charlie treat us to a live gig cd from this or the Australian tour . All us older guys know it was their best album and tour . Along with New Order they were both the new young leaders in the artistic and creative music field. They had it with everybody’s respect

@@madtony2531 But it only works in the Sons line up. Jim, Charles, Derek, Michael and Brian. Years ago I was in Bochum and saw XSM with Forbes and McGhee. Nice, but i missed Kerr, Burchill and McNeill. Little later i was in Paradiso at the 5x5 tour. Nice, but i missed Forbes and McGhee and McNeill. And essential is also that Kerr must sing his lines a liitle bit modest. Not so affected like in their commercial days
