Cheri, I really like the necklace that you're wearing in the video. The colors are so striking together! What is the difference between jewelry wire and craft wire?

+CyberTrainer Hi there! Jewelry wire is more flexible and is traditionally used for stringing. It is made up of several strands of tiny stainless steel cables woven together and then coated with nylon. You usually finish the ends of jewelry wire with crimps. Craft wire is more rigid. It is usually solid metal wire, ideal for wire wrapping, creating bangles, or making eye pins, head pins and jump rings. You can finish craft wire in a variety of ways, from the tucking the ends into a design, wrapping the ends and more. I hope this answers your question!

Yes it does! Thanks for answering my question. I didn't know that bead stringing wire is the same as jewelry wire. LOL I was thinking that it was a "better quality" craft wire or SS, bronze, brass, or copper bead wrapping wire. I'm learning jewelry making terminology slowly but surely! Thanks again!

The answer here has confused me ~ I took a bead wire class a year or so back and in the class we used the normal Jewellery bead wires to weave with and not craft wire ~ we didn’t seem to have any problems and I still have what we made in class ~ so was I taught with the wrong wire type?

What gauge wire are you using?

Cheri is using 18 and 20 gauge wires, but you could experiment with different gauges to achieve different effects.
