I just finished watching your interview with Scott and you spoke to a number of questions I have. I am not an artist and came to this interest late in life but I nam m so enthused by what guys like Scott and yourself are doing. Everyone of Scott's videos leaves nme gobsmacked with a thousand questions and I do not know where to begin to look for the answers. Scott speaks about so many aspects of his work in videos like creating unique environments and inspiration and techniques: warping brushes around a figure, cutting and bending paper an finding something in it, sketching out a bicycle and cutting it out on foamboard then photographing it, teh process of sketching/modelling and creating an actual model of the orb spaceship. There is so much information in his talks and videos that it is difficult to understand mainly because I dont have that background or he doesn't have enough time in his videos to explain. Collages on vellum sounded and looked interesting but I couldn't understand where he went with it after photographing as I don't have photoshop, just another question from a frustrated novice. Love what you do and thanks for taking the time to share this with everyone, in the meantime I will keep watching and drawing Cheers Charlie

seriously, there are not a whole lot of books that would cover the content of "how to design". such an awesome teacher.

There are plenty of illustrators who work traditionally today too. Some of them are amazing.

here's how that will go "hey maciej, I remember when you wouldn't fuckin share any of your shit you son of a bitch. Be more like james. Sorry james, continue." "So, then I take my light diffuser and mount it on my homemade easel. I really quite enjoy using this with gouache. You'll see as I paint this freshly hatched chicken, the casein wash I did before really establishes the color of the feathers. Oh! he moved! Haha busy day for baby chickens."

I gotta disagree really hard on Maciej about his design talk in 20:00. Maybe it's cause it looks like he's taking design as purely product design. Thing is, design it's a mind process, a problem solving mindset, Illustrators and artists do that constantly. Would you argue that Picasso didn't designed his lines? Have you seen Watts painting and how he constantly needs to think his brushwork strategy, values, etc? Web design also does that, and it doesn't need to know perfectly how a PC functions mechanically, but it needs to know how a human interacts with a website or a device. The process of design can be applied to many instances, the difference is what problem are you solving, which of course varies depending if its a painting or an airplane.

it's true in a way, really good artists def. design. I think he meant like pure archetype of "illustration" .. in reality illustrators, the good ones def do design also. Especially if you are drawing from imagination and you want to make something look cool and render beautifully, you obv have to design as well.

jhenriquez91 design and illustration are a bit different, illustrations are more similar to mood and production painting for films, but it's no good for specific and complex objects or places

What design are you talking about? Web design? UI / UX design? Typography / Editorial / Layout designers? They aren't good for specific and complex objects. What is an illustration but an image design?
