This recording is an absolute delight. Brad never drops his standards, and we are blessed to have such a great jazz pianist recording in Europe. Also, thank you, ARTE Concert, for the innovative use of split screen to show the musicians and keyboard. It's a beautiful film of a great concert.

He lives in Europe ?! Hah ! Didn't know.
@Horsemam31907 күн бұрын
@hirgons My mistake. He's been married to Dutch jazz singer Fleurine Verloop, since 2000. They met in 1997, and they have three children, the eldest is 23. They live in upstate New York and she continues to sing and record, though as a mother that has been very challenging. There's a great interview with her in UK Jazz News from last February, about being a mother in jazz.

Marvellous. Sometimes it feels like there are 4 musicians on stage, the wonderful Jorge, Felix - an exciting new face, Brad’s right hand, and Brad’s left hand - each hand is improvising separately while listening to the other hand and trading ideas. This is a rare talent!

The overhead view, as well as the one showing his face is absolutely genius! This is the best way to show a jazz trio! As always, amazing playing from 3 very talented musicians.
@keysonthego36633 күн бұрын
Beautiful thank you! So nice to see how relaxed Brad's hands are on the overhead camera angle & he does not even look at the keyboard!. Incredible how solid each musician's internal tempo is. Awesome!! Beautifully recorded too, kudos to the recording & mixing engineer.

Incredible experience of watching Brad Mehldau's performance of "Estate", recorded live at the Nancy Jazz Pulsations festival. It was an absolutely breathtaking display of musical mastery that left me in awe. From the moment Mehldau touched the keys, it was clear that this was going to be a special performance. His interpretation of "Estate" was both deeply emotional and technically flawless. Mehldau's ability to convey such a wide range of emotions through his playing is truly remarkable. Each note seemed to carry a story, drawing the listener into a rich, sonic landscape. One of the most striking aspects of this performance was Mehldau's exquisite touch and control. He navigated the piano with a delicate yet assured hand, bringing out the subtle nuances of the piece. The dynamic range he achieved was astounding, moving effortlessly from soft, whispering passages to powerful, resonant chords. This dynamic contrast added a profound depth to the performance, making it a truly immersive experience. Mehldau's improvisational prowess was on full display during this rendition of "Estate." His solos were inventive and deeply expressive, weaving intricate melodic lines that were both surprising and satisfying. It was a masterclass in jazz improvisation, showcasing his ability to blend technical skill with emotional depth.

Even if this playing is in an old tradition it seems somewhat new to me. Take for example the bass player; he plays in an old tradition, still I imagine I can hear a new touch. Of course the same with Brad, he plays it simple but complicated, his left and right hand has a complicated pattern to work on, still it sounds simple. And new! Perhaps I can call it COOL, but that word just indicates their playing, dont describes it. Anyway, this is a wonderful consert with three gentlemen doing their best.

Brad Mehldau is a fantastic jazz pianist, but the new generations of listeners are just like the WOKE crap that has poisoned the planet. Like all other dimensions of the society, jazz listeners have become religious fanatics, self-righteous freaks. This particular concert is excellent, but for those who have listened Bill Evans, Keith Jarrett, Bud Powell, and many, many other jazz piano trios, I do agree it is kind of zzzzzzzzzz. Yes, I do admire this trio very much. And yes, there are recordings of Bill Evans, Bud Powell and Keith Jarrett that are less wonderful. I hope this is not a heresy.
