I had been diagnosed with Brain AVM in 2010 and then embolization was carried with some glue.. post that after one year I was again asked to go for angiography and doctor confirmed glues is still in place and everything is ok.. and anti epileptic medicines he had prescribed and said whole life I Have to continue with it.. so is it true that I have to be on medicines lifelong??? Please reply thanks

I was diagnosed with AVM after headaches, speech problems and vertigo over a couple of years which was gradually getting worse. Once diagnosed I had a treatment called ‘ embolisation ‘ via my groin which ‘ glued’ the AVM and I did not need to have any further operation. The neurosurgeon explained that I had most probably had the AVM since birth but only started getting symptoms when I was in my 50s. My embolism left me with aphasia which has improved but I still have some problems to figure out numbers and forget words. As I live abroad I have to speak in two different languages; English and Spanish which can be difficult as my speech has been affected. I can write well but struggle to read quickly which is another consequence. Having said that I am lucky that my excellent Spanish doctors found the problem before a more serious stroke or bleed could have happened.

Well done. Great explanation of direct connection between artery and vein with no capillaries. High pressure to lower pressure causes inflammation and damage to the brain tissue. I understand. Thanks

Every one of my 15 brain hemorrhages was extremely painful. The first of which occurred in my mother's womb. It caused delays in my ability to roll over, then sit up, then crawl, then stand, as an infant. However, once I stood, soon, I walked and a ran; therefore, nine years later, when I had my second bleed, it was a surprise and it was amazingly painful. (I went on to experience 13 more, before being saved, surgically.)

I had an AVM that ruptured in 2020 causing an inter cranial brain haemorrhage. I had slight dizziness before hand and my speech slurred. This led to me suffering a large stroke which affected my left side. I underwent major brain surgery the night before the first national breakdown. Unfortunately it was unsuccessful so I underwent gamma knife in 2021. I’m still rehabilitating.

What is the difference between AVM and dAVF. I am a survivor (if I can say that) from dAVF. The thing is, it sounds so much the same, but instead of being hereditary, mine could have come from an accident years and years ago. I thought I read the odds of surviving a dAVF was very, very low, just to have an incident was 0.002% of 100,000 people. Can you tell me what is the difference? I have a meeting, 1 year after what happened this September at St Mike's in Toronto about it. And I guess on how I feel 1-year on

Hi Doctor, my wife has a lesion in her brain shows on MRI. From so many neurologists we saw, some think it’s venous angioma some say they’ve never seen such a thing. It’s been the same size for years but last 6 years started to give her seizures. She’s on meds but they are not fully controlled.. very frustrating no one knows what she has. Would your team be able to look at her records? Perhaps a new perspective. Thx

As-salamu alaykum. Dr. Omar, greetings. My MRI scan just revealed that I have an AVM. I talked with the ENT before deciding to get an MRI scan because I'd been experiencing Tinnitus for about a year. They didn't notice any problem with my ear, so they told me to have an MRI. I've been having problems with experiencing hypnic jerks and thunderclap headache or orgasm headache a month before my MRI scan, therefore I scheduled an MRI as quickly as possible. doctor. Omar, since I'm scared, is the surgical process extremely dangerous, and I'm absolutely concerned? If you notice my post-comment, I would be extremely grateful.

I had a. ENT tell me my tinnitus is from some artery looping in my brain over ten years ago. He said it was not unusual and gave no more information. But.... I have told my neurologists over time, my tinnitus gets worse, louder, and nonstop prior to my nocturnal seizures and when I begin to lose sleep due to waking from sleep, I have myoclonis after I wake for a time in the mornings.

Salam Dr. i have been having seizures for about 2 years now but only few episodes, all of the time i had a seizure they were cause by similar triggers either lack of sleep of when i drink caffeine,i was put on epilim but even on the drug i’ve had seizures by the same triggers (lack of sleep) i’ve learnt to control having an episode when i’m feeling sleepy and also stopped drinking caffeine i was wondering if medication will still be needed as they do not seem to work
