When I heard trigger #2 I dropped what I was doing and took my medication. Thank you Doctor Danoun!! For me, it is easy to become complacent when I haven’t had an episode for a while (months) and I stupidly start treating taking my medication (twice a day) as an annoyance instead of a necessity to live a “normal” life. Then I’m “reminded” when my wife gives me that look of disappointment because my last memory is of me going to bed, but she has a whole list of things that happened I simply don’t recall. Your videos are awesome Doctor! Thank you!

Keto was very helpful for me. I’m seizure free going on 20+ years now. I’m not even on the diet anymore. I did it for 3 years and was able to go without medicine finally. Just the result I needed given the medications really didn’t help with my seizures like they do for some.

@@FullmoonPhantom-dn2srcould you tell me your diet?
@FullmoonPhantom-dn2sr18 күн бұрын
@elclassico6388 It was a Keto diet. So, no carbs. I was really picky, so I had the same meal everyday. I had to eat everything so I went with something I would like and eat everyday. It's been a long time, but I'll try to remember the meal. I'll also say there are other meals on Keto. I just didn't want to eat anything else as a child. It was a long time ago (in or around 2004) when there weren't as many Keto options. No one knew about Keto. No one around me anyway. There's way more options nowadays. It's easier to find info about than back then. Breakfast: 1 egg (It might've been half an egg actually.) Peanut butter Banana Milk Butter The egg was filled with peanut butter and made to look kind of like an omelet. I also had a bit of banana. I had heavy whipped cream for milk, and it had some liquid calcium poured in. My family also decided to make butter candy-like treats. Treats made out of butter and colored. They tried their best to make it into something I might like. I had bubblicious bubblegum after each meal. Only 1 piece. I was also allowed to drink caffeine free pop/soda. My family bought caffeine free 0 cal coke normally. Lunch / Dinner: Egg Tomato sauce Shredded Cheese Milk Butter treat Gum It was eggs again, but this time it was a sort of pizza creation. 🍕 The egg would act like a crust. On the flat egg tomato sauce would be poured. Then shredded cheese melted onto the hot egg. I had milk to drink again, a butter treat, and a piece of gum. Everyday was like this.
@FullmoonPhantom-dn2sr18 күн бұрын
@elclassico6388 I mostly stuck to the same meal everyday, but there were others my family had me try. There was one chili and cauliflower one, but the chili was too heavy for me, and the cauliflower made me puke. That was an awful time. I do ironically like roasted cauliflower now, but for a long time after I hated/was wary of cauliflower. Love it now roasted and covered in seasonings. Not sure if the way I make it now is Keto or not. There are a lot of different ways to eat Keto now. There's more information about it now. Vs when I was on the diet my family asked the dietitian and doctors about how to feed me a Keto diet. Never wanting to try anything without an okay from the medical and dietitian team. The diet felt like a foreign concept no one understood back then. So, once we had success with it my family started to not want to mess with the success. They started out wanting to explore different meals, but with the success and me being resistant to any changing up or exploring of meals. They started to avoid any change to the diet. Not wanting to mess with the success. I genuinely liked the egg meals even speaking as a former picky child. And kinda currently picky adult. I don't think I'd eat it now, how I did then, but back then, I had no qualms with the diet after the first day or 2.

Ok, so I have epilepsy and my husband died from covid a little over a year. I now am both parents to three kids. I work hard. I recently had three grandmal seizures at work. It caused a stroke one week later, which I had another grandmal, or clonic tonic whatever they call it now, seizures that took me into a stroke. My second by the way. How can I survive, raising three children on my own without stress, hormonal changes, ect. that causes this. I am so lost right now as an epileptic single mom.

@recoveringsoul755 Жыл бұрын
That sounds awful I'm so sorry for your loss, that's major stress right there. Grief and trying to help your kids, make all the plans. I was wondering why he didn't mention motherhood. New mothers, and any mothers, go through a lot of changes and constant demands. Grandmal can cause a stroke? How do you get to work since you can't drive? Do you have any relatives who live nearby who can check in you? Are your children old enough to call the doctor or ambulance or drive you places? I live alone and money is tight so I've been rationing my meds. Had 4 seizures in the past year and was seizure free for 30 years before that. Nobody here to witness or help me after, tell me what happened. I hate living alone Sometimes it takes a couple of days for my brain to feel almost normal. I keep a cheap composition book that I write in. Date time and record when I take medicine, when and what I eat, anything else so I can read it to try to put the pieces together. I even write as soon as I can after a seizure, a timeline if nothing else. I can never figure out how to charge my phone after one. The plug doesn't fit. So I wrote an After Seizure cheat sheet for myself. Including the code to unlock my phone and other stuff I forget like how to turn on my tablet I forget how to cook or where the food is even. After one I was hungry and I knew how to boil water, like to make ramen, or reheat food already made, but not actually cooking something. My cupboards are pretty bare. I ended up boiling a couple potatoes to make mashed potatoes because I was out of the instant ones. Nothing in the freezer. So I try to keep something I can reheat. Make a big pot of beans, or rice. Just to have easy food

We also visited a neurosurgeon who said that it is not very serious for him. At the age of 3, he was diagnosed with epilepsy. He had strange introductions to the first attack, mouth movements, pain in the stomach. In the first phase, the doctor prescribed carbizepam, the drug Tegretol, after a few days he started nodding his head, usually in the evening around 7 p.m., like an atonic attack. Can he have this? cause aggravation. He is now drinking Kepra, and we are discarding this first drug. Can these atonic attacks be controlled with drugs, or is there a possibility of controlling epilepsy in this disease. I would be grateful for your answer. Thank you

My special needs client is 25 and has had epilepsy since he was a kid. He's on the max dose of anti seizure meds but still gets seizures often. With Keppra they were more focal seizures a few times a month, but now with Briviact (not sure how to spell that) he has more grand mal seizures. He had 3 focal seizures last Monday, and this morning in his bed i think he had a grand mal because he had bruise on his forehead, and had a nose bleed when he came wake me up. He always sings a certain song when he's coming out of a tonic clonic seizure , and he was singing it. Epilepsy is scarey. My biggest fear is he will have one and someone wont be there on time to block him hitting his head on something.

Have you looked into a ketogenic diet for him it’s a low carb diet which can control seizures he’d have to be weaned into it gradually as a sudden change of diet is not good, I’d look into it for him it’s worth a try but he should always consult his doctor first because it may not suit everybody.

About two months ago someone played a dumb joke on me and it resulted in me getting a traumatic brain injury and I had a seizure. Anyways I can say that medications are a big trigger… I supposedly had to stop taking 1500 mgs a day after a month and I didn’t think too much of it. After the “half life” of the medication expired in my body I experienced what I think was just the aura of a seizure or if not that it was a focal seizure with no significant change of awareness. Anyways after going to the ER it was brought to my attention that the doctor who first prescribed me my anti seizure meds sucked and needed to tell me how to taper off. So here I am about to finish my 2nd month on keppra finally about to see a neurologist. So yeah staying consistent is key with these meds and for anyone thinking it’s okay to stop it cold turkey… definitely reconsider!

I was diagnosed at 17, with Juvenile Myoclonic Epilepsy. I am now going to be 42.There was about 10 years with Keppra and Topamax where I was seizure-free. Everything you listed, except recreational drugs made me have seizures. I am allergic to caffeine, because every time I have anything with caffeine in it, now I have bad jitters. I never used to have photosensitivity, but now I do. I stopped drinking completely, 5 years ago, because along with BariatricPal surgery, my body can’t take alcohol at all. Not even a sip. For me, sleep is the biggest thing I need! 8 hours, or I will have seizures. My seizures have come back and I have severe anxiety. So, an amazing, but old fashioned neurologist put me on Clonazapam, many years ago. Now, my doctors don’t want me on it and they tried taking me off of it cold turkey! Now, I have seizures daily. I have to go to the ER and the don’t help me. I never abused them. But, my boyfriend did steal them without my knowledge. I called the police and he went into treatment. Hence the reason the doctors stopped. But, they don’t believe me. I have generalized seizures. My life has been hell. My father used to make sure I was taken care of and talk to the doctors. He passed away 12 years ago. My mom 6 years ago. I don’t have anyone to advocate for me. I want to try the RNS. But, is that for generalized seizures?

I have smelled my ex and my grandfather's cigarette smoke along with the morning coffee percolating on the stove. Then i wake up with a bloody swollen lip and a wet bed because i urinated on myself. Just two weeks ago, i had one that i didnt expect, my aunt died the day before and i had to travel back home the next day and so i was stressed to the max. My doctors havent found the area and im afraid i may not wake up.

Yeah it's great to speak about epilepsy for people. Well I'm building up something for myself... Yet I also ❤ for everyone. P.s. What I'm building up is diet which is keto diet. Partially it has held up well. Nutritionist and the doctor was for it as I told about the diet I held. I could go on...

The most likely time for me to have a seizure is during my HIIT workouts. Clearly, the stress on the heart must be the root cause. It annoys me because I want to continue to exercise to my best and keep a healthy lifestyle. I had to stop running outdoors because of my seizures, and I've got scars on my knees that will probably never heal because of a seizure on a treadmill. On top of all this, I'm drug-resistant, so I can't imagine my workouts will ever go smoothly. But I learned to take it one day at a time.

How can I know that I am over exercising if I am feeling great with tougher workout challenges?Can workout challenges be triggers?

Any thoughts on overheating being a trigger? Seems like it’s triggered my daughter several times - she’s now scared to go to the beach or pool or exercise with any intensity.

My son used to get triggered by heat ,his first and worst full seizure was brought on by an over heated car on a freezing cold night ,

I experience this too , exposing to sun triggers mine, but only when it’s too hot , and if it didn’t I just get a really bad headache almost as if I woke up after a seizure.

My granddaughter gets seizures when she is too hot. Dr mentioned fever but it can happen when you overwork, shop until you drop, overdressed in a store shopping, car too warm, running. Anxiety and stress can can also make you over heat.

Hello Dr Danoun. I had my head scanned back in 2018 and they noticed a birth mark on the brain. Since the end of 2022, as I lay in bed, my body will shake uncontrollably for 2-3 seconds. This can happen up to a dozen times a night. What do you recommend?

I had a cavernoma that was leaking in my frontal lobe and just had brain surgery 1/27/22. I never had a seizure for 13 months and then randomly started having short seizure that from what I research seem to be focal onset. I’ve also read that scare tissue from the surgery can be causing the seizure as well. Any input would be greatly appreciated. I do have a dr an talk with him 3/22/23 but I would still appreciate any and all information.

Its wild that both doing and not doing things can be triggers. I gradually weened off and took 3 months from from cannabis and about a month in I had a few focals until I had a grand mal. Tuened out i was accidently self medicating so i was referred back to cannabis with a medical card plus a daily prescription. All has been well so far.

Hi Jessica. I’m sorry that you feel this way. This is exactly how I feel. I just turned 38 years old. And after two epileptic episodes, I was given keppra. Today is my 4th day taking anti seizure medications. So far so good but I have to sleep 10 hours a day. How are you doing?
