I really wish that Odegaard scored i think Emery would've been absolutely roasted for what amounts to a horrendous collapse by villa from the 60th minute onwards. Hell if Saka lifted the ball over Martinez when Odegaard got him though it could've been 4 goals in 15 or so minutes.

Another great show keep them coming Sheroy. Think Emery was an unfortunate necessary sacrifice at Arsenal. He’s a good stable manager that improves sides in and around 5th-8th. We were around there and he couldn’t improve us before the job become untenable for him. Think his tenure with us showed that the dressing room/players we had at the time weren’t good enough and couldn’t be coached to be. The recruitment team weren’t good enough. And he certainly showed me that it wasn’t a manager issues it was an issue with the club and the fans. Let’s not forget our role in his demise as he was hounded out on all fronts. When Arteta came in and after 6 months or so it started going the same way I was much more on Arteta’s side as I’d had enough of the players throwing the manager under the bus. Thats allowed Arteta to strip the club back and restart with a team that’s younger hungrier and has much more to prove. The rest is history I guess and we’ve onwards and up into a team with a manager I love and can get behind.

Great analysis. One thing to add on Emery for which people seem to have convinient amnesia about, the dressing room was a mess . Part of the job as a leader/manager is to ensure that rules are set and people are following it down to the T. There was the story of the arsenal players being filmed inhaling baloons with Guendouzi passing out...and this included the club captain, Auba. One thing that Arteta introduced was the non-negoliotables and you can see from the types of players bought, stories like that are not happening anymore. I think there is now a rose tinted glasses view on Emery's time at the club. Also, the notion that Arteta won the cup with emery's team is also a falsity. Majority of that team were players that were actually signed under Wenger or came through the academy.

Arteta vs Emery is not even a question. Correct. I could not care less about Arteta vs Emery. Only results matter. I don't care who the manager is, I am not a fan of managers. Been a fan since 1967 and seen all kinds of managers. All I care about is the team, performances, and results. All these people who idolise Arteta over the club are not real Gooners. Martinelli is now a weakness in the team. He should be sold next summer. He is limiting our chances. Gabriel Jesus is beyond unreliable now. A club like Arsenal, with a really thin squad, cannot afford to have its 2nd highest earner constantly unavailable. He needs to be moved on asap. Look at the bench we had vs Villa. Unacceptable. Chelsea have 20 players that can't even get a squad number and we can't fill our bench. Club is a shambles. This is the 3rd season in a row where we basically have a first XI that will be required to play 90+% of all the minutes and this is unsustainable. I am extremely pessimistic for this season. The list of other issues is long. We desperately need Merino to hit the ground running. Look at how Rice and Partey were dominated by Morgan Rogers. Any serious injuries to key players like Odegaard, Saliba, Saka, and Havertz are going to have a huge impact on results. Given these guys are only going to get rest in the Carabao Cup, we all need to pray none of these guys do themself a serious mischief. The two Watkins misses cover up a lot of worrying issues. The result was everything. The performance not so much.

Sheroy great takes as always. I’ve come to accept that fans enjoy the binary positions because it is easier to banter. I’m like you, I enjoy the nuances. Personally I try to stay away from comparing coaches because it is never an apples to apples deal. Experience, team dynamics and skill level, club operations and culture and so on are various elements that makes comparison seem silly. I would say I did like that we beat them in a resounding way. Emi also gave us one two seasons ago, also from an outside shot by a DM (Jorgi). Love it. I was surprised to see such strong condemnation of the 'good ebening' phenomenon. Whenever I've seen someone say that over the past few years it's in an attempt to inspire forboding in fans who have to face an Emery side- because he is respected and feared. It’s a very fine line, but I certainly saw huge sections, even without our fanbase, using it to belittle him after we’d suffered a loss - and that kind of thing when it spreads can be very problematic (particularly when rivals fans did the same after we had a poor run of results, to compound that sentiment). I guess if used in the context you describe, because he is respected and feared, it then comes with a totally different tone, so needn’t feel bad in that scenario! Hey Sheroy :) I understand your view about the transfer window and the new attacking option we desesperately need, but i dont feel optimistic about it. First of all, we dont have that much space for a new incoming. Our left flank is full, two different 9 with two different profiles, and a rotation player on the right side. Concerning the Saka cover situation, I dont see any player in the world offering real "competition" for him. 99.9 of the those we can afford would automatically take the role of rotation players. Moreover, it does not seem that Nelson is on the departure, so i assume that Arteta is happy (or content at least) to keep him. For these reasons, i don't see a senior right winger wanting to come to Arsenal. Also, it would not be our style to take a one year loan player. I cannot imagine a guy like Coman (huge wage, always injured) who we were linked with in the past, coming on the deadline day. My last hope is Nico William who has a release close, but again, he is on a huge wage, and we already have fierce competition between Marti and Leo for the left spot. Would he agree to be a league cup starter + playing 10 minutes every game to rest Saka ? It's all the question. Personally, I think it would be more rational for him to wait one year and become a starter at Barcelone. Anyway thank you from France for your insightful takes about our matchs and club ! :)

Unai Emery bought Martinelli and played him through the middle. Martinelli has no output on his left foot, either crossing or shooting. He has had to run looking down a lot because of the over insistence of him using the weaker foot because of the wing position . Change him with Harvetz and Saka goes to the left where he started off at in the juniors. Then GJ9 to Saka’s role. I feel for Martinelli he has had to use that useless left foot of his. Put him at 9 and most of Harvetz’s chances he would finish them off. My 2 cents

sheroy is right when said "emery did not see martinelli as a threat", aston villa keep their mid block with overflood they player in middle third even after we score 1-0 they still do that, if emery see martinelli as a threat then aston villa will play totally LOW BLOCK because mid block system which close with HIGH LINE SYSTEM it will be so easily for winger who has pace like martinelli for capitalize that mid block system.
