Well not exactly flattering but it prompted me to search for it, was happy it was one of your tutorials actually, and it’s a good one! I tried it out with the Magellan iPhone synth, ended up with a pretty decent result!
@artfxdnb6 жыл бұрын
@@djkrptdnb Yeah the point for me is never to recreate the sound in the exact way the original artist did it, because honestly, that would be nearly impossible without taking a peek into the mind of the producer. However luckily there are many ways to achieve a similar sound, so that is what I can show to you guys. I actually listen to the BBC Radio shows every now and then, hadn't checked this one yet so it was quite funny to me actually!

Great tutorial! The coarse parameter in operator is correspond to a ratio with the fundamental, so one octave above correspond to a ratio of two, but the next octave is a ratio of four, and the next one eight. I think a coarse of three correspond to an octave + a fifth.
@artfxdnb6 жыл бұрын
The coarse in the video IS set to a value of 8 inside the sampler, in Serum however, you have an octave setting. So using a coarse of 8 inside the Sampler FM module and an octave of +3 inside Serum should give us the same pitch for the FM oscillator.
@nickskywalker25686 жыл бұрын
Oups! Sorry it was late I did not catch it. But the sound on serum sound like it's processed by a higher signal, as you demonstrates by lowering the octave. Maybe if you try modifying the tuning it you'll find the same sound, I don't know. It could also be a small difference in the shape of two saws, but I don't think it would sound higher like that.
@EdSoloUK5 жыл бұрын
I think you might need to turn down the "rand" on the serum oscillators to get it to sound the same as the sampler?

Trouble would be a badboy one
@djkrptdnb5 жыл бұрын
This kind of sound isn’t too hard to make, you can turn up the resonance on your filter and turn the cutoff down until you have the tone you want. For something like Trouble, it was maybe resampled. That’s a very generalised description, there’s most likely some modulation too. It’s all about messing with the filter on a long bass note.

Great tut again Art (: simple but damn effective bass sound. Definitely learnt a thing or two. For instance:I should really give Ableton another shot. Great DAW but I never seem to get round to properly learning to use it. That FM operator in the sampler sounds mint af Sooo you asked for ideas for new tutorials... Signal has been doing some crazy fm style basses lately. Maybe you can give a shot at recreating the main bass of These Eyes. Overall, a dnb artist series of tutorials would be awesome. For instance, I still can't quite figure out how Mefjus makes those signature thumpy percussion-like basses. Wonder if you have a clue. Much love. You have a great channel which I keep coming back to. Keep up the good work mate 🔥

how would you do all the sampler e.g filtering and distortion stuff in FL studio I have no clue I wanna practise making bass like this to get better at the stages you've used here but unable to in FL can anyone point me in the right direction
@artfxdnb6 жыл бұрын
Use the FL Studio sampler.
@Lukzify6 жыл бұрын
@@artfxdnb honestly have tried to copy over everything to the sampler but it doesn't work I might try the serum only one at the end and try that
@artfxdnb6 жыл бұрын
@@Lukzify Yeah I'm not an FL user so can't help you too much with that, afaik the FL sampler doesn't have an FM section build into it, which is kinda needed for this sound. Maybe you can get close by using Harmor as a sampler because I think that one has some form of FM, but I might be wrong. Maybe ask some FL guys and see if they know how to implement this technique in FL.

Im not really 100% sure if what I am about to say is correct because I switched from FL to Ableton yesterday but i feel like the Saw D in the sampler has a lower partial value then the default saw in Serum...It has less harmonics I suppose and therefore it does not give u the same results? Or maybe it has to do with like the way serum aplies the FM to the first oscilator, then sends it into Unison while the sampler just FMs the audio?
@artfxdnb6 жыл бұрын
Yeah could be either one of the two or actually a combination of both, it doesn't really matter as long as you are aware that not every synth will give the same result. Just try a few and see which one you like most.
@ognjenpetrovic46936 жыл бұрын
I agree, as much as I love to know the tech behind synths and other plugins it all comes down to what it sounds like :)

8:10 Anybody knows if there is a difference between applying EQ on the Mid in the first Eq instead of running a second EQ in Stereo mode?
@artfxdnb5 жыл бұрын
Yes mid doesn't affect the sides but only the mid channel, stereo affects the entire stereo spectrum.

I am trying to remake the bass. All is just fine but I have one problem. The problem is that when I am in the instrument rack the operator does not want to send any sound into master channel. When I try it separatly it works. Maybe I am stupid but I dont know where is the issue. Thanks for the help.
@artfxdnb6 жыл бұрын
Are you sure the Operator chain is actually turned on inside the instrument rack in the chain list?
@Neutralrider6 жыл бұрын
ARTFX yes, i am sure...actually the operator making some sound. I spoke badly. But that sound is just tiny little like it has very short realese time.

Can't you just do all of this in serum with the exception of maybe using a native eq for the filter automations?
@artfxdnb6 жыл бұрын
At the end of the video I show you the same version of the patch done inside Serum, the fact that two plugins can do FM doesn't mean they interpolate the FM in the same way and thus the end result can come out sounding different.
