As someone who's worked in a few kitchens; usually, when you go for a scale like this, everything works like clockwork. You have enough personnel and the kind of equipment you need to do this right... or you don't do it at all because just one person in the line of production falling 'off' can just stop EVERYTHING. You have your job, you know what you're going to do, you know where everything is and you just... 'zen' your way through the day. It's hard, it's exhausting, it's painful but it's also calming in its own way.

First, the fact you didn't take away from the fact this place offers options meaning its likely up to the person if they feel like eating healthier or not, they clearly made a fruit salad as one of the breakfast options, if that isn't healthy to you, you need help. Secondly, fried food isn't inherently unhealthy, its a case of moderation. These guys probably eat a fairly balanced diet all things considered with a fair variety of foods and with options available, fried food a couple of times a week isn't going to affect your health, especially when its not even fried in oil and there was clearly a stew being made at one point as an option. Even more so when most of these dishes are served with more veg than most Westerners eat in a month. Additionally part way through it clearly says they try to mix things up by treating them to different styles of cuisine such as Mexican and American.

I love the work environment here. Not only enough respect and admiration between resturant staff and miners, but in the kitchens as well. In America, people goof off and don't care about the quality they put in the food, and workers are confrontational and picky. Not to mention corporations cheap out on fresh ingredients. I wish we implemented this work mentality in the states, that way everyone can act more accordingly and leave happily and come to work happily.

@joshbaucom1983 Yeah I get, I worked for a few corporate structures that really went low on fair treatment after COVID. But even before COVID I saw the hierarchical structure and how upper management gives incentives to middle management to whip workers to procure impossible results, including food service. I used to work at a resturant in a casino. Everyone treated food service like crap, not just the customers. It came to a point workplace ethics was out the window. I had one cook that was outright making food for herself for free, and another cashier grabbed food from stations.

I don't know why I always choke up at this video. Maybe it's that these food workers are doing such a good job to provide healthy, appealing food in a fastidious way to miners who must be working under challenging conditions in a remote, and isolated area (and during a pandemic, to boot). It's almost reverent. Every square of cake gets a little rosette...and a little chocolate decoration. It's not necessary, but it says, "Everybody deserves something pretty -'even if it's just a little square of cake - because everybody needs to know that they matter..." 💗🍰

As an American this education fascinates me! On the one hand, the efficient and unhurried production of the sheer volume of food in a timely manner is astounding! But my surprise is the cleanliness, health, obvious well being of these miners, both male and female! I'm overjoyed! If anyone would care to correspond with me as to this story I would be so indebted (not for publication ~ just for my knowledge). You see, for those of faraway lands, in America, we see coal mining in terms of coal with poverty and disease. I would so love a response!

@@sonacphotos Are you saying automation won't lead to massive unemployment? Are you saying all of these miners can simply pivot to operating robots and still receive similar wages? Then what would be the profit incentive of automation? Automation will free humans from physical labor, but those humans still exist and need resources to survive. Since capitalist societies only value working class people for their labor output, then how will they value those people when their labor is no longer needed? It would be nice if we could all enjoy the benefits of automation, but that's not how global capitalism works. The spoils of production are horded by the elite. Will the people who hold the profits and power decide to share their horded wealth with those who are not working to bring them more wealth and power or simply leave those "unemployed" people to die when the capitalist machine no longer needs to exploit them? @CHILΣΠO , it's way more efficient for a company to provide both food and facilities than for the people to bring in their own food and waste packaging to eat at their own speed on the job or elsewhere. All the food waste and packaging trash is centered in one area too. The time savings is important when there are work shifts that have to be transported all at once from the mines and back to the mines. When people eat together in the cafeteria restaurant as a cohort, fewer transportation trips need to be made and people don't need to wait around for stragglers to fill the transport.

@@rabby77777 True, but keep in mind mega companies will often use good food and other tricks as a way to keep workers happy while cutting areas, and even cutting people into early retirement for example. I'm not saying the company in the video funding all of the stuff in the video is bad, but its something to keep in mind. I know this as my father works in the single company that brings electricity to my entire state. Good food, allowance, top quality accommodations, free beer, etc, but they often abuse workers rights to get a bigger profit, though the union helps their rights.

That food looks great and of good quality. And did I get that right: They can pick up a pre-cooked meal at the evening to eat at home? That‘s cool! Hard working staff there, too. That‘s really hard work they do, keeping the morale of the other employees up by treating them with nice meals. I bet the miners have a large appetite, too.

It’s good to see a company offering good food to its employees, and to see the kitchen staff go the extra step of adding little embellishments to make things pretty, too. Those little details matter. One of the greatest joys of this video, however, was getting to see the faces of the people as they ate.
