"Misty City". This was a fun project showing how to make a stormy city in a vase/bowl using tinted resin and pinewood as a base with a unique resin casting technique and turning it on a lathe and finishing the interior by hand.

I think it’s cool looking. Set it by sunny window so the light is shining through and it’s a real conversation piece. Use something along the lines of like a popsicle stick and get some color on it and they’ll give you an idea of how dark it is, you can always add more. I’ve only been watching the last couple weeks but I enjoy your videos. Thank you for sharing.

I've heard somewhere--don't know who to credit the quote to or I would--"A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step." I'd add to that, in the case of your piece here, Dr. Dan, "that single step, and the following thousands, is the adventure." It's been fun watching you learn and grow and try all these new things--sometimes succeeding and sometimes not. In this particular piece, I believe you've achieved a new level in your work and imagination. Well done, sir.

Wow. Just wow. From every angle it gives a different vibe yet completely cohesive. The resin color perfectly gives the impression of a foggy, stormy, cityscape. Maybe I've been watching too many storm chasers lately, but it reminds me of an entire city inside a massive tornado 🌪️. Eerie and beautiful. Well done, Dan!! This sculpture is exceptional I don’t know about others, but least any of humanity ever forget the attack in New York and in DC and Pennsylvania All of the work force in all buildings, the first responders and all of us in this USA 🇺🇸 and the 🌎 world A life size sculpture donation may be an extreme challenge, but certainly worthy thought The many countries at war and which are attacked regularly This reminder of lives lost and those left behind to try to rebuild the destruction is merely sadly the forefront of discussion However, the personal tragedy is for forever the most important and most delicate acceptance of past occurrences Flaring, triggers of one’s tragedy haunts a soul throughout their life… A Smokey memory for us all…

You said that the vacuum pot removed most of the air bubbles and then you put it in the pressure pot until it hardened. Why? Does it make it harden faster? Love your stuff and I am learning a lot watching you. Thanks.
@artgivinghope
@artgivinghope 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Dan! So the vacuum chamber helps remove a lot of air bubbles from the wood and resin, preventing little bubble streams leaving cracks etc. The pressure pot then squeezes any remaining bubbles so small you can't see them. I've tried both many times on their own with bubble issues, but combined, I've had almost perfect results for clear resin clarity.

I totally see what you were going for. Awesome concept. Love all the techniques you incorporated into this beautiful bowl. How does one light it for all the wonderful effects? It is absolutely gorgeous. I love it. ❤💕❤ Thank you and all the other awesome artists for supporting this organization in helping as many children as you all possibly can. Helping in a small area is one thing but to cover worldwide is magnanimous. Wow!!! You are an incredibly awesome group of people. Wishing you constant support and success. Blessed be to you all. 💜🤗💜😊💜

A very nice piece! It really comes alive and the resin does look a lot like heavy weather, definitely wind or maybe even a storm. The mystery and the dark pulls you in. Also very daring to use the torch at the end but it was a nice finish! Thinking back at your previous pieces the tall vase with the blue ribbon is probably my favourite. It is just really beautiful and something I wish I could have in my home. I have an idea that I think would be cool. Have you thought of setting a canvas painting in a window, that goes around the vase and then use clear resin and hollow it? If you put a light inside the vase and it shines out through the window and through the canvas I think it could look really good. Especially if it is a painting that lets through a lot of light and looks good when lit up from behind, for example if the shapes and the brush strokes are more interesting or whatever could make a painting look good when lit up from behind and not the front. Going for something that looks good when lit up from inside is just one way to do it though. In the video of the Foggy Wheat I think you said something about how you really like wheat. Maybe it could be cool with a painting of a wheat field or a harvest or something rural? Long comment but I hope you don't mind! Thanks for sharing the making of your projects! I really like the videos. I'm graduating soon and once I get an employment I will donate to ArtForOUR and your amazing work. Thanks again!

In 2013, I had to leave my Speech Pathology career bc of an autoimmune disease. So, I opened a Pet Sitting LLC in client homes(it’s like homecare for animals) Hearing that OUR is providing trained dogs to combat child sex trafficking brings 2 of passions together. Amazing work. And I LOVE this piece! Really does look like a cloudy city at night. I’m sure you’ve seen turners for this, electrocute their pieces, burning patterns that look to me like trees & roots. Looks dangerous to me, but beautiful. Torching wood is also a natural sealer for the grain & I love the look. Well done Dr.

@@artgivinghope I totally understand. However if you change your mind or end up with more creative time, I won't mind doing grunt work so I can learn from you. Plus, we are active duty in San Diego but we are from your sister city, Denver. So it's sorta like just a hop and skip away from you when we get back. Also, Thanks for taking the time to respond.

I love what you have done here and how your idea came about. I am NOT artistically inclined in any sense of the word and I so admire to see someone who can totally open their minds eye. The pieces you do are so very awe inspiring for me. You are a very talented man in more ways than one with your hands, from art to what you do professionally. God bless you for what you do in all aspects of your life, because what I see is a true love for their fellow human being. Many thanks again for what you do for others. Much love from Virginia.
