You are correct, it was more of a visual description as for years Megarachne was believed to be a spider based on looks alone. But I probably should have been more specific, good catch!

@@DrumsAndGames It was, but it's appearance is frankly very outdated. Originally Megarachne was considered the largest spider in history, often portrayed as a Giant Tarantula like in the special you mentioned. But later studies found it to be more closely to Sea Scorpions, hunting and feeding in freshwater lakes and swamps rather than the treetops.

Oh! I didn’t know it was not-a-dino month! Probably too late to put my two cents in, but I’m hoping for a Dimetrodon vid. It was always one of my absolute favorites growing up cuz they always included it in the dinosaur toy sets, but then later found out that not only was it not a dino, they’re more closely related to us than they are to the dinosaurs. I’d like to write a strongly worded letter to evolution like “Excuse me, the teeth? We got the teeth? And not the giant back sail?!” To be fair though, it would make putting shirts on very difficult. Mother Nature, it would seem, has got our… backs. 😅

Arthropleura is a distant relative of modern millipedes, but as long as a car. It can rear up tall enough to look a human right in the eye. Although it’s a vegetarian, its strong jaws can still deliver a nasty bite, especially with its huge mouth parts called mandibles. It lived alongside other giant insects, such as the giant eagle-sized dragonfly with a 1 meter long wingspan, Meganeura, the giant human head-sized spider, Mesothelae, and the giant scorpion, Pulmonoscorpius. From my experience as a child, it is famously known from the TV Documentary Series’, Walking with Monsters (2005), where it battles a giant predatory amphibian, and Prehistoric Park (2006), where it is encountered and rescued from extinction by my paleozoologist hero, Nigel Marven. And most recently, it has reappeared in the All-New Netflix Original Documentary Series, Life On Our Planet (2023), where a male searches for a mate, and then finds a female to mate with. Anyways, nice job with the update, and keep up the good work.

@anthonybusch4407 One problem, Megarachne is not a spider. It’s a Eurypterid ( sea scorpion) that lived in freshwater. So far the largest fossil spider to date is around possibly 3 inches in length, Mongolarachne jurassica from the Jurassic Period of the Jiulongshan Formation, Inner Mongolia. From its description; it’s also possibly the oldest Orb-Weaver Spider! And currently holds the record for largest fossil spider.
