Back in the day when you could just ring your GP and he would come round to your husbands allotment to assist with his breakdown. Nowadays Pauline would be stuck on 111 trying to get an appointment in 3 weeks time.

Probably Bill Treacher's finest moment in EastEnders. See how much grittier and real the scripts and acting were in the first four years.

"Oh Harold, help me, for God sake help me!" heartbreaking scene between two of EastEnders finest actors. The show at its very best. If soap awards had been around in the 1980's, this storyline would have won a load of awards.

But when you look at the show now and then you look at this piece of acting youd be mistaken for thinking its a different show how the hell did it go from this to whatever it is they churn out now ffs lol. John Wheatman my thoughts exactly. It's like a school pantomime now. Haven't watched it for years
@djbobhoskins6 жыл бұрын
Completely agree. Its best years were the 80s. It was raw, gritty, uncompromising drama, the dialogue much more real (including a lot more swearing). Shadow of its former self now.

@@83JACKO There's too much violence and chavs in it now, all because the BBC try to appeal to younger viewers and not a wider audience like in the old days!

Credit to Bill Teachers, there were some emotional and intense scenes showcasing is brilliant acting ability. Someone once said "A mental ill is like being involved in a car accident. It is tragic, traumatic and the people in the street just look and stare helpless to do anything about it".

The episode this scene is from was on Drama channel earlier today, and I noticed straight away that this scene was edited down (and censored) for obvious reasons! Top scene though.
@djbobhoskins5 жыл бұрын
They should have scheduled it later in the day. Really sad that it was cut.
@WillTube19905 жыл бұрын
@scf85 It was merely due to a certain word that is said a few times in this scene, something that is not suitable to be broadcast for daytime TV. The same word was said by Nick Cotton in a episode last week and they censored that by silencing it, they have also done the same with his homophobic language that was OK to say on TV in the 80's but now it is not permitted by today's standards.
@jamestowler685 жыл бұрын
Yes I was looking forward to seeing this scene within the context of the episode, really disappointed they cut it, I feel it lost some of it's impact, and was a bit disrespectful to Bill Treachers fabulous acting and to the subject matter. This was really a scene that needed to be shown in full.
@jamestowler685 жыл бұрын
Let's be honest kids probably hear and see a lot worse these days, this scene was honest, powerful and raw and deserved to be seen in full.
