No any other violinist in the world's sound quality, phrasing, dominancy and sonority count to my ears when Arthur Grumiaux starts playing the Violin; No doubt he was the BEST Violinist of the 20th Century.

When it comes to art, "best", or "1st", "2nd", "3rd" etc are a little silly. It is a highly subjective matter. There are the greats (whether painters, works of literature, violinists) and they were all phenomenal. What you _can_ say however is "my favourite is...". In which case I'll agree with you. Grumiaux, together with Heifetz, is my favourite too, for slightly different qualities: Grumiaux for his absolutely beautiful lyricism, tone, phrasing and musicality

carmignola is more musical...but grumiaux is very tasteful, no klezmer-ish slop like perlman or those types
@b00i00d3 жыл бұрын
@@rickdeckard1075 Yes, I kinda see what you're getting at. I'm not sure Carmignola is up there with the greatest but I've certainly enjoyed what he's done with Vivaldi's work.

I find myself agreeing with this. specifically that every time I hear him, there is something there in his playing that just isn't there elsewhere, regardless of my great love for the other masters.

Oh! fantastic, graceful, beautiful forever Arther Grumiaux! Occasionally when I was young. I used to listen to this Grumiaux every day, especially I would love to listen to No.3 G- major. (91yrs.Japanese)

Absolute honesty and authenticity. A true artist. It’s about the music, not about him. I miss the likes of Grumiaux, Oistrakh, and Milstein. It’s all about show biz today.

Mostly, yes. I enjoy listening to Amaury Coeyatux, though there aren't very many recordings of him online.

are you talking about the music industry as a whole or the violin scene? because there are very wonderfully talented violinists out there today.

@@chriss6356 Indeed, there are some wonderful artists out there today. But not all get the attention and recognition they deserve.

@@alexsaldarriaga8318 oh yes, I absolutely despise the modern music industry. At best any modern entertainer is mildly talented. Most of them have no talent at all. I hear people fawning of singers like Ariana Grande and I think to myself how subpar someone like that is to a classically trained opera vocalist.

His violin simply makes part of him. This makes him a great artist. I was only 6 years old when I listened to him for the first time in the church of my town (Fleurus-Belgium) and I still remember it very well. Just an extraordinary next door artist! Thank to my parents (and especially to my dead dad) to get me the chance to discover the classical music!

I'm so touched that Maestro Grumiaux had devoted himself so much into Mozart's string works unlike other major violinists in 20th century. Being one of the greatest violinists himself, he'd even chosen to play Mozart's "lesser" works such as these early concertos and some minor sonatas out of sheer adoration to the greatest genius composer. He had made the standard of Mozart's string works so high that has inspired not only his contemporaries to take Mozart more seriously and generations of violinists to aspire for great musicianships. Thank you for sharing this with us. I "implore" everyone here who loves Mozart to listen to Grumiaux's playing of the string quintets, the string trio, the violin sonatas, the sinfonia concertante. in short, just get the great boxset of Grumiaux's "Mozart Recordings" by decca

in those days, when Oistrakh, Grumiaux and Milstein played, it was not necessary to come barefooted on stage (and have a worse intonation) to sustained awareness, golden ages.
