I’ve heard many, many, many versions of Arthur McBride over the decades. It’s guaranteed the one song to be played at family occasions - holidays, funerals etc. My father is a folk singer and asked me to bring back a copy of this song on vinyl when I was a child visiting family in Dublin with my grandmother in the 80s. I knew the lyrics from being a small child and understood what it said about the history of what our antecedents endured. It’s possibly the first song I can recall hearing at home, along with Steeleye, Beatles, Donovan . So I say with deep appreciation that this is a fine, fine version. I’d love to hear a recorded version someday! Blessings and happy new year! ✌️🙏

Another listen to this great performance of this great song.I’ve known the song for maybe 35 years and could never play beyond the riff part.spent the last part of this summer sat in car in a nice valley near home with the sun streaming in going over this and Mary and the soldier and after a bit I could play them both well enough to satisfy myself anyway.was really nice to come across you singing the two songs so well .really good to see other people enjoy a song that moved yourself so much and of course people will hear the song for the first time when they come across your versions ,well done and Thankyou.
